The new Audi A6 has barged it's way into the company car park and is determined to stay, but can it live up to the hype and fend off the competition of its premium German rivals?
To find out, Auto Express has grabbed the keys and tested it face-to-face with traditonal rivals the Mercedes E-Class and last-year's class-winning BMW 520d.

I have a new 535i and I like it and have owned a E320..and liked that as well. Plus the new Audi A6 seems fantastic. All are nice cars IMO, but I love the sexy of the 535i..perceived value is in the eye of the beholder.
Alright, anyone who said Audi hasn't stepped up their game is clearly ignorant and just doesn't want their favorite brand to be beaten. Loosen up fellas, These are Audi's years.
100% agreed, if You buy audi, You can buy VW Passat, it`s the same but cheaper. Mercedes is all about feeling in it, I got mine year ago, and I love it more and more every day!!!

I live in Northeast Ohio where winters can be really snowy and cold so for me Audi is the way to go. The quattro system is the best awd system I have ever driven. I also love that its fun to drive when it's nice out too. Audi really stepped it up. I do disagree with him saying the BMW was the most fun having driven both the BMW (even in "sport mode" felt like an old heavy cadillac compared to the Audi. I'm not saying the BMW is bad but in this price range BMW needs to step it up and update the power train it is unacceptable.
if i would have a sedan i took the bmw. but audi builds still the most beautifull wagons. audi a4 and a6 avant :) i like it!

I've driven BMW and Audi and seat at the back seat of Mercedes in many time, to be honest;
For performance: BMW
For comfort: Mercedes
For quality and a different exoerience: Audi

@@M3Eddie I have driven both the E-class and the A6 and I have to say that the Merc feels much more luxury and comfortable. The A6 is sportier, which I don't like. The E-class has much better ride, which is very important for bad roads. So there is no "best" here. If you want comfort, buy Merc, if you want sport - go for BMW. If you want something between, then Audi is the right choice.

What is this guy talkin bout the BMW & Mercedes keep their value alot better that Audi. A 2010 Audi a6 4.2 is worth 54,000 while the 2010 BMW 550i is worth 62-63,000
Its funny how we Germans argue about which one of the three cars or brands is the best, instead of agreeing that all three brands are superb and belong to the best car brands of the world!

I would give BMW and the Benz the nod but since 2009 Audi has stepped it up big time. Now in the year 2012 there is nothing more eye catching than an Audi on the road in my opinion.

Funny, I got rid of my E-class because it was so boring, an excellent car but Mercedes "know better than you" and don't let you turn off the electronic aids so there's really no room for fun.
Currently driving a BMW and thinking of upgrading to another BMW.

@IgniSound Did he not say it otherwise front wheel drive. why not compare it to an x drive bmw and a 4 matic merc. Don't get me wrong i'm not saying the car is not excellent but for the most correct comparison they need equitable contenders.

It used to be that BMW was the sporty pick, Mercedes was the luxurious one, and Audi was the most economical. But now, they're all pretty much the same. They're all sporty, luxurious, and economical.
Your decision is now based mainly on the design and the tech it offers.

The Audi is the best only because of the fact it is cheaper to run than its rivals. It is not as good to drive as the BMW and isn't as comfy as the Mercedes. It seems like a jack of all trades and master of none :(

Nah, they are not that bad in BMW, but Audi as Matt says: "...Audi engineers tight up their screws, a bit more than anyone else.."
I don't agree, my dad has a 535i. It's basically what brand you prefer. Materials in the Mercedes, Audi and BMW are of superb quality. Also don't forget that Audi's are basically fwd cars. But hey, it's all just a matter of taste.

I was torn between buying the new 5-series or the new A6. In the end Audi made me a good deal price wise. I have had the A6 since september and I am loving the car. However every time I see the new 5 series, especially in white I can't help but feel like I should of gone for the 5 series. I think the cars are a very close call. This will be my last Audi however, I have had one before and I think once you have driven one you have driven them all.

+Taras Tab You are stupid. the benz interior is trash. the standard seats are PLASTIC!!! not leather, but plastic. let me repeat that, plastic. as are all the panels. if you want leather you have to place a special order, wait 3 months, and pay a stupid sum of money because dealerships rarely ever stock the leather models. also, the infotainment system in the benz is ancient. even the 2016 E class still has that ancient infotainment system. it's literally the same garbage the used to put in the old C class
audi comes with leather seats, surfaces, and wood trip STANDARD! the GPS screen is two times bigger in the Audi and the controls are better.
+solomonshv Ok, but for me audi interior look boring. It is nice, not fantastic. One more thing, new merc facelift is beautifull. UA-cam is one thing reality is another.

This comparison is hardly valid for US customers.
Most people would consider A6 3.0TFSI, BMW 535i and Mercedes E350 here, and Audi's 3.0TFSI is much faster than the other two and are quite well-reviewed.
If you've got deeeep pockets *Audi,Sophistication - panash * Mercedes,performance-styling-handling * Bmw.Take your pick!
Nobody designs cars these days like Audi does. They are a cut above the rest. For a brand that almost faltered in the late 80's, they rebounded well.

Nope, Audi does not have any 2 Liter Engine paired with quattro. Only 2.8FSI or the small 3.0TDI with 204HP. BMW has a 2 Liter Diesel engine with two turbos and xDrive, the 525xd.
I don't know why anyone would want an Audi when you can have a BMW or Mercedes.
I hate this bashing on youtube Audi Vs Bmw Vs Merc. These are different manufacturers with different approach to design, engine etc. I love the 3 brands. I had an A8 4.2 2006. Very lovely luxurious & fast car. I sold it and bought Mercedes CLS55 AMG, very lovely car. But i can't say it's better than Audi or Audi is better than Merc. After the Merc, we are getting a BMW 6 series which we like very much. MMI, I-drive are very lovely. Trust me, try these brands and they are flawless. Love the "3".

i have driven all three of these cars just not the exact model. BMW has a more sporty feel, its very agile and has a great transmission. Audi has a solid feel. It can be sporty when you want it to but it's more of a car for driving to work. The mercedes is a relaxing car. It is more luxurious throughout the cabin. It has a soft feel but can still be agile.

Fair enough, although I am a BMW enthusiast, I will agree that the Audi gets points for all it's standard features but what truly matters is the drive and like this man said, the Bimmer is the most fun to drive.

My friend..,if you say that even to someone from the headquarters in Audi,most likely he wont believe you,as they are really,really familiar with the problems their cars are causing:) To whom are you talking??? I work in BOSCH for 6 years!!!! Or these 200 000 miles are like the fisherman and the fish..and actually they were 2000 miles:))))

@londonas2 not anymore, the 2012 facelifted XF got a new 2.2l 4 cylinder engine that traveled from burmigham to munich with only one full tank, but without any compromises in terms of power

I loved ALL of them but I will still go for the Mercedes because when it comes to servicing it's the cheapest although the interior and exterior don't match the BMW and Audi. BMW has the best interior I feel actually

I am afraid to pull the trigger on an Audi. Everyone I knows had reliability issues with them but I hear they have improved. Three Bmws have been good to me.
Audi. Best Looks. Best Drive. Not Overpriced. Hands Down. Nothing catches my eye on the road except an Audi.
@Scudeyyy - he said you have to pay for extras to make the BMW drive the most sporty. Also the starting price of the BMW is cheaper but the Audi has lower running costs because it is more efficient and has a better resale value.
@kodestan MB and BMW have cars that look similar too. It's normal with all car companies. Audi has at least slightly changed their models from how they looked before, and not just by a bit. It's actually funny how people talk about Audi and how their cars look exactly the same when the fact is, they don't.
Get the Audi or the Mercedes if you want a pretty car. Get the BMW if you truly love driving. Very few ppl that can afford these cars keep them past 5 years...the maintainence free warranty from BMW is second to none.

as i know, audi has 2.0tdi + awd, and Bmw doesn`t, couse 525xd is not 2 liters engine it is 2.5 i think)

the a6 has a problem where sometimes the bonnet opens when ur going around 100mph on a motorway or whatever

+love the Road jaguar is trash. brake down a lot and because of that have piss poor residual value. if you want to burn your money, which i guarantee you don't have, go ahead and get the jaguar.
+solomonshv my dads had jags for the last 12 years. He's had the facelift XF since 2013. No horror stories at all.
The BMW is the nicest one in the exterior.. it just fits the purpose of the midsize luxury sedans so well with its elegant and sober look, looks amazing in black. The BMW is hands down the best in handling. In the interior the mercedes has the best design and quality, followed by the BMW and Audi A6. I don't like the A6 exterior.. so sad they didn't do something more elegant.. it's very surprising since they've done a wonderful job with the A4 which is extremely attractive.
When people say they've got a new, expensive Audi or BMW, I have no idea if their car is good or not, all Audis and BMWs look the same to me...

Not a bad thing. But yeah, too many people pay the premium for the badge and then do not spend the money for a engine more powerful than what you would get in a passat, or the money for options you cant have in a passat.
BMW will perform undeniably better then Audi ever will, but with out a doubt Audi has clearly executed the art of design flawlessly. Basically Audi is all show BMW is all GO! I love both manufacturers but I would be torn between the two for many different reasons. I would be stupid to turn down one over the other. BMW and Audi Fanboys, calm the hell down. Both cars are amazing in their own ways, not every manufacturer is intended to be the car you most like, its called variety & competition.
