Julien Mareschal is a quiet, thoughtful and caring winemaker. He has wisdom in his soul and a clear passion to his craft in creating natural wines full of precision and elegance.
Based in the small hilltop village of Pupillin in the north of Jura, just up the hill from Arbois, this tiny population is home to revered winemakers like Pierre Overnoy & Emmanuel Houillon, Tony Bornard and Bruyere-Houillon amongst many others.
Domaine de la Borde have been making wine in the area since 2003, and Julien states how lucky he was to have been able to get vines there, which is now virtually impossible with the high demand for wine in the area.
Having come out of wine school (and eventually describing how he had to UNlearn what he was educated to make make wine naturally), one mission of Julien was to be creating a Vin Jaune as soon after starting as possible, which was important to him in order to have his grandfather taste is before passing.

Fantastic documentary as always, great lengths, great focus on soils and the visions of the winemakers as well, Julien’s wines are very precise and are fantastic vessels of the terroir, wether if it’s on limestones of marls and his vin jaune is really pure as well ! Thanks again for this fantastic documentary and your documentaries in general !
