  • If you want to make a coonskin cap that drapes down your back you will need 2 raccoon pelts. If you're wanting to do the classic Davy Crockett style you can usually get by with 1...it really depends on how big your coon is and how big your head is!

    I remember many years ago in the Austin , Texas newspaper, there was an article with a picture of a guy wearing a hat made from a cat skin. Lots of people were unhappy about that.

      Back in the days when you advertised fur buying prices in the paper, you could find listings for cat but it's not really a thing anymore

    I will make one of a rabbit because in central Mexico there are no raccoons,Should the circular cap have the same circumference of the straight part that measures the head?

    • @HawkenHorse
      @HawkenHorse  Рік тому

      I made the top bigger only because of the raccoon face. But if you’re doing a rabbit I’d probably just cut it without the face at the same circumference. 👍

    • @HawkenHorse
      @HawkenHorse  6 місяців тому

      I definitely wouldn’t machine wash it. Spot washing would be best. And then the leather should be oiled up good afterwards or it’ll dry real stiff.

      @@HawkenHorse You don’t happen to have a merch store do you? Not to be a crazy fan and all, but I really do like the overall theme of the music. It’s relaxing and folkish. Music you could hike or fish to, while still being deep in its subject matter. A man who’s content to die on a mountainside with a bible and a rifle, and no one knows what became of him, but he knows he lived a full life. That’s the “spirit of the west” in my mind.
