- Where is she now? After she helped defeat the bathroom bill, Kimberly Shappley packed up her family and left Pearland so her daughter could be free to be her authentic self. See how this mama bear is keeping her family safe.
i'm so proud of this family! brings tears to my eyes to see such accepting chrisitans, this gorgeous girl will go places when she's older- she's been through hell and back and she is only 7! an amazing role model for many of the close minded people in the comments section here.
I am happy you feel safer now . All children deserve to grow up in a safe environment.

When they actually see these children and understand their stories, they will begin to change their views and politics. Kai is an amazing little girl who deserves to be treated and seen as one. xo

How sad that Pearland, Texas is so narrow minded and hateful. Your church members should be ashamed of themselves. Kai did not do this to herself. Things happen that we do not understand, only God knows what and why. I pray things will turn out better in your new home and that this city and it's schools are better. It would be sad if you had to turn to homeschooling and rob Kai of the company of other children. I pray the families there are more informed. Best of luck and God bless you.

I live about 20 miles from Pearland, Texas. Pearland is now a growing suburb of Houston but retains it's conservative small-town values. That's not to say that all residents are hateful but I think many families would not be comfortable having family with a transgender child living among them. It's not only their interpretation of the Bible but also their fear that this child could "infect" their children. It's all based on fear and ignorance, unfortunately.
Yes, the family were members of Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church in Houston, one of the largest churches in the US. I recognized the church's logo as they walked in the door and went up the escalator. This appears in another video, a great documentary about Kai and her story. ua-cam.com/video/cuIkLNsRtas/v-deo.html The building that is now Lakewood Church used to be called "The Summit". It was a combination sports arena and rock concert venue before it was bought by the church. Kai's mother Kimberly stated in the video (see link above) that she was very involved in the church but was rejected by many members whom she had known for many years after she chose to support her daughter.
It's a shame that the family had to leave Pearland but the situation would have probably gotten worse the longer she stayed. I hope the family continues to find acceptance in Austin.
Kai was born to be a girl. Jesus tells us to not judge others or ourselves! Mother is giving her kids unconditional love! I'm Christian and would never pass judgement on this beautiful child or her family. People in Pearland are living amongst Pedophiles, wife beaters and drug dealers...they're afraid to socialize or live next door to an innocent precious intelligent child?

Kimberly -- pay no attention to the haters here. Find a church that's LGBTQA+ friendly. They exist. Surround yourself and your children with people who are supportive and authentic, (unlike the hypocritical so-called christians who support the current administration that has no moral compass whatsoever), and VOTE BLUE.

Very awesome little boy. God did NOT make a mistake when he made him a boy. I wish this poor little soul knew this and that mom could have the strength to deal with this. Stick to God's word mom and be strong in what the Lord says in His WOrd and what He already told you in your heart when you began this journey. Accept the love and this spirit of confusion must be dealt with Biblically. Osteen does not do this effectively. Find a deliverance pastor who has had results with this confusion spririt. God is trying to bless you all with this truth and power He has for you to overcome sin and the devil. It leads to hell. What good is this outcome of hell aligning with this spirit from hell alone? It's actually shows how hypocritical modern world is. From one side they say "Girls can play whatever toys they want! There shouldn't be gender related toys, hello it's 2019!" And from other side "Hey, look! He is playing with dolls!! This little boy for sure want to be a girl!"

I wish that Kai realizes that he is a boy and repent before the Lord. God made him a man since he was in the womb of his mother but his mother encouraged that astray behaviour just for the money that a confused boy could make for her working in the Netflix tv show. I hope he knows the true of God.

I think what you said makes sense, it does seem that the mother encouraged her son without seeking continued therapy so the child could grown and understand what he really wanted.
