Nate, man, I love your stuff, will you PLEASE watch the Netflix horror called 'Hellhole' from 2022. It's a Polish horror and probably a tiny budget, but I reckon you would really like it if you like atmospheric, creepy horror. Would love your thoughts on this underrated and overlooked horror.

@@SarcasticPlotRecaps I hope you check it out. I even spoke to the director on Instagram and thanked him for a great movie, and told him I couldn't believe that Netflix weren't doing a better job at promoting it..they didn't even make a trailer at the time (not sure if one exists now).

The original Omen gave me nightmares for a week, but I was about 8 lol
I finally saw this last night. 1/5 stars. Sorry Mr H this was a horrible movie. The premise was too stupid and unbelievable. I love the Omen but this movie doesn’t hold a candle to the series. It was so disjointed and boring. My wife liked it actually but after talking about the original her opinion of course changed.
Saw it today and it was ok. Good acting, story was decent. All in all nothing spectacular but it's not bad either. 3/5
Refreshing to see good stuff coming out for a change, here's to hoping things improve.
Just seen it. Great film, Nell Tiger Free steals every scene she is in. Great to see an actress actually act instead of playing the emotionless independent strong woman. I hope they will be releasing this with a high definition release of the original Omen film.

Prequels should be made by film crews who love the originals. I noticed that with Cobra Kai, it still feels like the Karate Kid. As for the First Omen I'm pleased reviewers enjoyed it and I'll check it out in the autumn with the original Trilogy.

I felt it was good but not great. I agree it was well written but there seemed to be a few coincidences (especially with the cars always crashing into people near the final act).
I actually preferred Immaculate. 😂

I just got done watching, it wasn't bad. pretty good. Some slow parts but the 2nd half got better. Give it 7-8ish out of 10. Yes the sounds were cool and the setting was definitely on par. Glad u enjoyed it. 👍💯

So I grew up watching a lot of old school horror films and I used to love them, as I’ve got older I can’t watch horror anymore and I don’t know why, so as much as I would want to watch this, I don’t think I can or will :(

I respect your opinion and analysis of films,especially horror,but have to STRONGLY,disagree with this one.
This was 2hrs. for 10,maybe,15 notable minutes,some of which blatantly ripped off Possesion.Lots of loud jump scares,call backs to the original,ham fisted attempts to offer social commentary and a somewhat predictable ending. I even read the term retcon used to describe it.
The lead actress worked with what she was given.Bill Nighy was wooden and Charles Dance was in the trailer.
The sound was great though.
I don't get all the praise heaped on this movie or the director.This was not good.Opinions vary though.Glad you had fun.Cheers!

Rather a disappointment I feel. Some genuine scary moments but the story doesn’t live up to the original. Stupid unnecessary retcons. Acting and cinematography was good but story was garbage.

Love the original trilogy. The third one is quite... meh... BUT has a great monologue by Sam Neil up in the attic.

Damien was born of a jackal. So I don't like the story or the female heavy plot. I will TPB it though.

It has been changed quite significantly. Its a well made film but I had problems with recons.
I’m ngl I wasn’t hype for this movie at all & I expected this movie to sucked but after watching a trailer at the movies and seeing all these positive reviews I’m actually hype for the movie now and I’m definitely will be watching.

I called it an homage because if you've seen the subway screaming scene in Possesion 1981, they clearly were inspired by that right down to the liquid details.

Too much retconning of the details of the classic 1976 film IMHO. Troughton's Father Brennan explicitly states that Damien's mother was a Jackal. He is also marked with 666, suggesting he was also an Apostate of Hell, but seeking redemption by warning the Thorns. None of this is in the prequel. I love Ralph Ineson but his Brennan was too heroic and not a patch on Troughton's wild eyed lunatic priest.
and they retconned that the OG Damien's mom is supposed to be a literal jackal not a nun wannabe..

I saw this opening night in Australia, funnily enough my name IS Damien (even the correct spelling, it was also my 40th Birthday), Damien in the movies was born on the 6th of the 6th at 6am, I was born on the 4th of the 4th 1984, Strange and pretty cool

Speaking of exceptions… rumours are Mike Flanagan is taking over after David Gordon Green quit/was fired from the Exorcist trilogy. Flanagan’s Midnight Mass was incredible, his insight into religion (esp due to his educational background) is fascinating, so hopefully his take on the Exorcist will be another stellar exception. I’d rather see Flanagan restart the Exorcist trilogy, and not bother setting it in DGG’s universe tbh… hopefully Flanagan is given the power to do whatever he wants without having to rely on whatever DGG had planned.

Really loved it. For a legacy prequel anything over mediocre can be counted as a success these days but this REALLY nailed it.. At times Argentoesque and at other times a genuinely unsettling polanski like tone! Have to say the lead performance is simply way better than you'd expect from a film like this! I had a problem with the ending (not the jackal business which I thought was great) felt like a tag on sequel set up.. But I guess they have to make dollar
Disagree. I dont think it perfectly fit in with the lore as there were some retcons and it was also pretty slow in first half and forgettable. But at least it was restrained in going for the cheap jump scares etc.

Brilliant film,went home and watched the original after,a perfect prequel!
For me i watched all the omen films i just found the second film was the best one for me but the trouble with all of these films there to slow but i guess that's because there old films at the time and i found that to be the case with the exorcist. But again these was classic films for there time and watching them as a kid growing up in the 70's the omen films was the one that scared me but boring at the same time lol
I didn't expect The Omen prequel to bee that good. Like, holy fuck, really brutal and heartbreaking when it needs to be.

The original is such a great horror film. I'm much happier to see a prequel than a remake. I wouldn't dream of watching a remake.

Thought it was okay. Actually liked Immaculate more. Wished they would have delved more into the lead character's early life. The movie would.hsve worked so much better if this was not known to be a direct prequel to The Omen imo. Almost all the deaths directly copied deaths in The Omen. Thought the ending scene wasn't necessarily as well. The only shocking thing in the movie was that the Mother Superior was played by Sonia Braga. I know she's in her 70s but the last time I remember seeing her in a movie she was still kinda hot.
I'll wait for it to stream. My $ is going to GxK till it's out of theaters. 🤷♂️

I watched the original for the first time before watching First Omen and both blew me away both great horror films.
This year is already kicking off with great films and after seeing this the other night I was amazed by the film myself the cinematography sent chills down my spine

It was the best horror I have seen in a long time. It had a hint of the original Suspiria about it. Very impressively executed.

This movie was very well directed. And the story keeps you on your toes for most part of its runtime. The ending, however dials down on the supernatural factor to the point that the whole Antichrist nature of Damian is left hanging by One single thread. I wonder how they are going to take things from here...

@@philipmullins2028 I haven’t watched that but I’ve watched various videos talking about it and it just comes across like a movie made to disgust for the sake of it - whereas Martyrs has a story, with very believable characters going through horrible things. So I felt watching Martyrs would be more worthwhile and the disturbing aspects means a lot more. Serbian Film feels like one of those of movies you show your mates to gross them out for the fun of it 😂
I’ve watched both Martyrs and Serbian Film. Disturbing wise, Serbian film wins, but movie wise Martyrs is a better film
