I am a watercolorist but I love to see good pastel work with those gorgeous saturated pigments. Mertz's last 4 minutes demonstrating the final light phase was amazing in how fast it pulled together the piece! The lights are so brilliant against the foundation, and so luscious in contrast. It was interesting to see that Nancy blended & merged some of those colors into the darker base tones simultaneously simply using the side of a finger. It all went up so fast, starting rough, with the added surprise of the alcohol which seemed to smear all her work yet she maintained the broad strokes & strong bones of the foundation. Fearless! I think this step acted as the glue, helping to meld all the colors. Nancy makes it look easy and so much fun I may be converted... Thank you for an interesting demo!!!
I think those that are watching know the difference between a hard and soft pastel! Maybe the questions can be less repetitive and teach something rather than saying the same old stuff over and over again!
Nancie this was a great reminder of good technique and very encouraging. Thanks 😊
Loved this live demo. I feel so fortunate to live in Rockford and have Nancie close by!

Great! Thanks so much. I’ve never done a pastel urban scene, let alone in the night time. I’m going to give it a shot.
