      Interestingly enough, in the actual movie, that final line is said more matter of factly, as opposed to here, where he sound slightly surprised. Evidently, it's from an alternate take.

    Man, I remember this promo showing up at the end of several old Disney VHS tapes I rented, like Tron and a VHS with a couple of Wonderful World Of Disney episodes featuring Ludwig Von Drake, and it showed up on a tape my sister often rented, Blackbeard's Ghost. Even in the 90s and early 2000s, there were still rental stores that had old VHS tapes where I lived. I miss those...

    If you're a VHS collector, those early "white box" Disney tapes are worth considering. Many of the titles released in that line either weren't seen again or if they were, it wasn't until many years later on DVD and in many cases the DVD release wasn't really advertised at all so you'd be forgiven for not knowing about it. That always kind of baffled me. Here Disney has this HUGE catalog of live action films and classic animated shorts/featurettes and they're not doing anything with them. If I were Disney, I would at least be setting aside a couple of hours of Disney Channel airtime a day to show this old stuff.

    • @LogoMan7777

      As far as their animated classics went, they were focusing on theatrical re-releases (which is why The Aristocats were rereleased twice in seven years).

      I spent about 38 years trying to figure out the title for The Watcher in the Woods, that's seriously a title that rivals Song of the South for being used in promotional material while effectively buried. I'm a tad upset to hear North Avenue Irregulars isn't on there, also Hot Lead Cold feet, how is that not on there?

    • @melissawickersham9912
      @melissawickersham9912 4 місяці тому

      With Bill Cosby’s ruined reputation nowadays and the controversy that surrounded “The Devil and Max Devlin” when that film was first released...I very much doubt that “The Devil and Max Devlin” will ever stream on Disney+ in a remastered condition if it hasn’t already been streaming on that service. Disney would probably want to forget that the film even exists, just as they would want to forget about their other 1980s and 1970s box office bombs.
      Disney probably doesn’t even want to digitally restore Condorman if they think it wouldn’t be profitable.

    • @melissawickersham9912
      @melissawickersham9912 4 місяці тому

      It’s pretty remarkable that 27 titles out of the original lineup listed in the promo were able to be streamed on Disney+ decades after this promo was created. Those titles were able to successfully go through the preparation process required for online streaming. That would probably mean that the master prints were still in existence and in adequate enough shape for digital restoration and preservation.
      The other ten titles weren’t as lucky. Maybe the master prints are not in good shape or are otherwise lost, or some of the titles were controversial box office bombs to begin with, or the music rights are too complicated to negotiate, or a Disney+ executive may have thought that the titles were too obscure for the streaming to be profitable.

    My favorite section on the promo is when the announcer says and music. On the new version of the program the song is found in Bedknobs and Broomsticks. But on the other one it's supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from Mary Poppins. Every time that's on I sing along with it because it makes me happy. The 4 cartoons on the promo are Lonesome ghosts(a 1937 mickey mouse short), thru the mirror( a 1936 mickey mouse short, it's like Alice in wonderland), Up a tree( a 1956 Donald Duck short be careful Donald!), and Boat Builders (a 1938 mickey mouse short Be careful Goofy!). You know the ending reminds me of Frosted flakes commercials where with different people they say with him they're great. That's what Tigger does at the end.

    Nothing says "That good old Disney Magic!" like a screaming Oliver Reed (Condorman) or Bill Cosby attempting to purchase the soul of a teenage girl! (Devil and Max Devlin). (Cringe)
    But seriously, the modern Disney leaves me pretty cold too. I like their more successful experimental phase. Give me the tale of a creepy blindfolded girl and an insectoid alien (Watcher in the Woods) , or people being electrocuted to death and cursed with blindness (Something Wicked this Way Comes) any old day!

      I loved that phase! I was a child in that phase and I didn't realize it was going to be just a brief phase. To me, Disney was Winnie the Pooh and Alice in Wonderland mixed with Watcher in the Woods and Something Wicked . . . . They all worked together for me.

    • @Marbles471
      @Marbles471 Рік тому

      To me, the experimental phase (late '70s to the mid '80s or so) was a mixed bag. Some of those films really worked well, and others suffered because the studio just couldn't get out of its own way. On the one hand they wanted to modernize and get with the times and make different kinds of films, but on the other hand they were kind of too chicken to really go all in and give the subject matter the treatment it really merited. And it didn't help that the studio had become such an irrelevant Hollywood backwater by the 1970s that it couldn't really attract the top-tier talent that would have been needed to really make a change of direction like this really work. Better direction and/or scripting would have helped some of these films a lot.
      I think Something Wicked This Way Comes is among the best films they made during that era, and I wish it wasn't so obscure now.

      All three were available on home video at the time, but not on releases specifically mentioned in this promo. Thru the Mirror was on Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck Cartoon Collections Volume One, Boat Builders on Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck Cartoon Collections Volume Three, and Up A Tree on The Adventures of Chip 'n' Dale.
