WE NEED MORE OF THIS! The mountain lake trout fishing is my favorite of all fishing videos. Those cuttys were beautiful! Great video as always 👍 love it keep ‘em coming
Amateur mycologist in the PNW here! So those mushrooms probably weren't matsutake. They have a very distinct and powerful scent, that's sorta spicy, like a cinnamon red hot candy mixed with your normal mushroom earthy smells and pine. Also not a porcini (or a relative) because it has gills under the veil instead of sponge-like pores that boletes, the family porcini belong to, have. If I had to guess what those mushrooms were, it might be another Tricholoma in the same family as the matsutake, but it could just as easily be very young Russula brevipes, Catathelasma ventricosum or even some flavor of Amanita which could be deadly poisonous. You made a very good call in not eating them.
Very nice that you chimed in with your expertise, mushroom hunting is always fun until you pick the wrong one. Then it's uncontrollable vomiting 🤮 and renal failure, definitely not fun.
PNW amanitas muscaria and guessowi are edible! they require slicing and boiling, discard the water, boil again, and then you can fry them, or ferment then for pickles, or dry them for soups later. autumn amanitas are very tasty, a nutty flavor, only do this if you can positively identify them with a book handy, or a great deal of experience. they're pretty easy to ID, though.
On a different note, it's amazing how the beauty of the woods can make you forget about the troubles of the world. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
Love and follow your channels. Not criticizing your fly fishing technique but I'm an avid fly fisherman for over 40 years so please consider my advise. When you hook a fish keep the line tight and reel in the loose line quickly. Then you can fight the fish using your reel drag. This is way important fly fishing for bigger fish.
I use old bay a lot. It's awesome. Beautiful spot. Best "Boy and his dog " video ever. Little stole the show. 🤣 I want a stay fishy cup that says "good cup of joe". Got to have it! 💜
Officially doxxed on Stay Fishy Adventures, life is good! I'm glad to see you are getting use from that book I sent you Jordan, and glad you chose to pass up the ones you found. It's always better to investigate further and make a positive identification . Happy hunting guys.
I look forward to your videos I check every morning just in case I miss the notification. you make my day. had the pleasure of watching your videos while camping this past weekend. stay bless my friend
Little makes me want a fishy friend to go fish with who will love fishing as much as I do I obviously have a lot to learn but you make it look so easy but definitely a way to escape reality and enjoy the great outdoors and I love the videos keep ‘em coming! ❤
The way you dropped that potential Matsutake for a Lobster.... oh man! I literally screamed "noooooo!" LOL! Great job pulling out an ID book and deciding not to eat it without a 100% ID - I also recommend David Arora's "All that the Rain Promises and More..." which is a must have for PNW foraging - it's also quite a bit smaller than the ID book you have so may make it easier to pack!
Fun video Jordan! Nice view of St Helens and beautiful landscapes. Good call on not eating mushrooms you're not sure of. One looked like a king boletus to me, yum!
Old polish trick when your mushroom picking, break a piece off and place it on your tongue if it starts to burn spit it out and don't pick, also if bugs and rodents have been eating them is another good sign.
Man! I know you won't give away your dope spots but you're one of my ways to remind myself of out west and Southern Oregon!. Stoked on all the content. Fishing. hunting. hiking. Mushrooms. survival. Love the channel Jordan!
Jordan, get "All that the rain promises and more" written by David Arora. Hands down the best pocket guide for safely harvesting edible mushrooms. You need it in your life!
Great video, as always! Best guess is those were young russula brevipes, which are the host mushroom for lobsters and are super common. Matsutakes always have a very strong odor that is kind of stinky & spicy at the same time, where russulas typically have minimal smell. The exception being a shrimp russula, which has a red/ pink cap and blush on the stem. Comparing boletes, boletes always have pores, where russulas have true gills. Last key is russulas snap like chalk, which it looked like was happening when you broke apart the last one. Russula brevipes is edible, but not particularly tasty. Probably a great place to go back to look for lobsters. Good call on not eating it without 100% identification! You know the saying, "You can always eat any mushroom, once..." Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing!
@@michaelsaks3610 Nice catch! I know I've found a Tricholoma non-matsutake look-alike species with no odor in the past, don't recall which one. Another possibility could be Catathelasma imperial, but that would be a huge flush if so!
Along with huge salmon and big rainbows and brown there are some Labrador (Nipigon) sized Brook Trout in Patagonia. I also think that there is landlocked Atlantic salmon there!
This place looks amazing! Absolutely loving your videos and channel, already can’t wait for the next adventure🎣 you know imma snag some of that merch as soon as you drop it, gotta get you to Patagonia ASAP! Much love and good vibes your way, stay fishy💥
I did a backpacking 2 day trip with me and my doggo and it was the first time since I was a kid that the trout actually tasted SO good! My boy echo ate the skins and extra crispys and he has never loved me more lmao
Everytime I see you upload i get so hyped bro! just found out you used to fish with a cousin of mine on the sandy river I got a little star struck when he told me 🤣
Another great one Jordan I need to get out and find some wild mushrooms your videos are super informative on them and made me a lot more confident on what I can eat out there
