I am told that my Mom "ghosted" the original lyrics for this song, and others. My family lived in New Jersey and both Dorothy Fields and Jerome Kern did, too. The transition at the bridge is somewhat tricky even on piano.
Lovely version. Loved the way you can see the guys all really getting into it and feeling the lyrics. A classic song sung in an unconventional way that still makes it sound classic. Bravo a tutti....Westminster!
Ich haette auch auf Deutsch schreiben koennen, aber der Meinung bin ich, dass es nicht besonders hoeflich ist, eine Fremdsprache zu verwenden! Warum nicht Englisch?
Yesssss... arguably the most gorgeous love ballad around - has to be put up there wIth 'Love Letters' and 'Love's Old Sweet Song' among best ballads -ever-. Incredible rendition here, esp those beautiful soft passages!
If you want a permanent copy of this song and others, go to the WESTMINSTER CHORUSweb site and order their CD. You will not be dispappointed. Maybe one day they will put out a DVD of their performances. One can hope.
He's there, singing bari. So is the baritone. At the time they were in another quartet called Entourage. MSF(tenor, bass) + Entourage(lead, bari) = The Crush.
I'm an old barber shopper, and I too think that the hand gestures were just a bit over the top. Yes, you will use gestures in a quartet , but in a chorus setting, it is just unsettling. Now that being said, the performance was OUT STANDING!
I'm a member of the ambassadors of harmony and there are plenty things i see that the judges are looking for that this chorus didnt do. These guys are really good but if they had that prob i see fixed they would have won gold.
I disagree. The movement was heart felt and fitted well the piece. For barbershop, it was incredible and this is what I want my chorus to do! I think they got second because of the backflips and juggling in their uptune. They have amazing sound and such energy! That is their big drawcard!
The moves are how the singer makes a vital connection between his body-the instrument he uses to make the sound-and the emotions in his heart. It's part of the whole delivery mechanism. Does Yo-Yo Ma sit still while he plays Bach? I cannot imagine why they didn't win. W. sing the way god intended when he thought up the human voice.
Among the best performances ever, with horrible video, and, strangely, ignoring the constant background hiss, still better sound quality than most recordings made many years later. Maybe it has something to do with the amazing starting product.
This was absolute magic. You guys had that entire audience in the palm of your hands. You took the gold that night, you'll just pick up your medals next year, ;)
Oh wow~ I'm supposed to be learning the women's version of this (which is pretty much exactly the same) and it's nice to hear how it sounds all together~
Chef's kiss - even after 17 years!

Still my favorite chorus contest ballad ever. Thank you, Westminster Chorus!

The acoustic makes the music even more special!
Has barbershop changed? I remember it being a more straightforward version of a song with the harmony giving it a distinctive ringing sound.
they all look so funny when they sing!
Wonderful performance, authentic and subtle faces, etc. Super singing; a shining example of how a ballad should be done.

They sound great! WOW!!!
But for a second they looked like they were about to jump the conductor. lol
You can hear everything from Queen to the Beach Boys and Four Freshman in their stylings. Very nice.
@kingofsng WOW!! So lucky - I used to sing in female group - miss the fun times we had rehearsing and performing- ceme to a sad end. Well done!!
Whoa. These people are excited to hear them some chorus music...understandably...these guys are AMAZING!
好きだなこういうパフォーマンス。
少しでも合唱かじった人間にとっては
たまらない。
生まれ変わったら、このメンバーの中で一緒に歌ってみたい。
oh, i looked through again. i thought that one of the leads was from The Crush, but it wasn't.
Who got gold that year and how?
Vocal Majority, by 17 points!
Oh Yeah!
Makes me miss my barbershop days!
They are phenomenal!
I am loving the "breathe boys, breathe. " intro. Let's you know even this great chorus might get some jitters.
so I see OC Times and The Crush, is there any other quartets in there?
At the time competing quartets were: OC Times, Men-so Forte and Afternoon Delight
日本の男声合唱と違って透明感があっていいなぁ。
Astonishing choral work. Superb. I've lisened again and again.
it's an overused word, but this really is awesome!
