Looks like, after a good start, engine cuts out with a lot of ensuing soot coming out of the stacks repeatedly starting @ 25 seconds in till about 35 seconds; what's up with that? After 35 seconds she runs smooth, strong, & clean, like an engine in excellent mechanical condition. Who's plane is it & where was this at?
Engine damage. This plane crashed in 2014. This is after restoration. Probably still in the process of tuning the gear box. This is FR.11 VX281 at the Royal Navy Historic Flight Museum.
@@PugilistCactus I think you'll actually find that the a/c in the video is Sea Fury FB.11 VR930,the RNHF/Navy Wings T.20 is VX281. VX281 was fitted with a new re-built Centaurus engine at a cost £200,000 post 2014 forced landing,not the FB.11.
@@PugilistCactus You must be blind, anyone can see its a single seater and it plainly has 'VR930' visible under the wing. Geez how much bullshit is there on this platform from people who in reality know the square root of FA and have the audacity to THINK they know what they are talking about. "Tuning the gearbox". .....what gearbox? -wtf! Yeah it had problems with reverse gear, lol.
@@PugilistCactus It has never crashed, the two seater VX281 crashed and was written off a few years ago. This aircraft VR930 is having an R2800 fitted in place of its Centaurus engine to hopefully over come the reliability problems they've had over the years.
Yes. You can tell by the five bladed prop, PW powered have a four bladed prop. Plus of course the sound is a little more cultured with that sleeve valve.....
@@billbonnington7916 Correct.it sounds much smoother than a P&W.The P&W's prop also rotates the "wrong"way,i.e turns to the right when viewed from the cockpit.
Just like me in the morning...
Loud.... Grumpy........Takes Careful Handling......
Much Gentle Coaxing Into Action.....
The best last piston fighter song.
This could have gone a lot longer. Beautiful radial music.
Sea Fury and the F8 Bearcat. I rest my case.
Great an original engine
Epic...
He’s over fed the fuel before trying to start it. Doing that in a typhoon or tempest often caused engine fires.
Wasn't the Sea Fury one of the fastest fighters of WWll?
Wouldnt want to be in a hurry.....ie at war.
I'm a plane buff, but I never seen, a 'Sea Fury'! What's that?

The stuttering is too much priming fuel.

@@PugilistCactus you've just made my day! surely this must be a rarity. i didn't know there was any centaurus engines running now. how fantastic.
