I made frequent visits to Chicago when I was younger to visit family and when Superstation WGN was still WGN it was a tradition of sorts to tune in and see Tom/what the forecast was a couple days out to help with packing.

When I was first introduced to digital cable up in Canada in 2008 and I stumbled across The CW superstations that were available to us, Skilling's presentation style on WGN had me hooked right away to the point where I'd make a habit of watching the News at 9 mid-way through after the Illinois Lottery draws around 9:20 PM back when they were still using blowers/tumblers, just for the fun of it. It's kinda funny how not even a couple of weeks later after Skilling announced he was gonna, another similarly legendary meteorologist in Winnipeg, John Sauder, announced that he was also going to retire after a just under 40-year career of his own in broadcasting and meteorology between radio and CKY/CTV and CBC, which he did the first week of this year. Congratulations Tom on retirement and all the best to you! Not only are you revered in Chicagoland, but also by this guy in the Great White North too.
What is there to say? Hands down the finest meteorologist on the planet. Watched him for decades. Honestly, I couldn't believe it was possible to show so many facts and figures on so many charts for a daily news program. You are the best, Tom. Enjoy your well-earned retirement. We won't have another like you.

I never lived in Illinois but I would watch him on my cable TV channel really enjoyed him Good luck hope you have a long and healthy retirement God bless Tom.
It should happen -- he was iconic and Chicago can't brag about much else, to be honest. There is still Svengoolie, he's been on air for about the as long as Tom. Politicians? Chicago names streets after politicians (don't mention Lake Shore Drive), but honestly most of those politicians are nowhere near as memorable OR ethical as Tom.
of your 45 years of WGN, I’m proud to say that it’s been a privilege to be able to watch your forecast for at least 35 of those years since I was a teenager growing up in the 1980s and 90s. of course, I followed you watching your forecast on the WGN app and on UA-cam. and once had the chance of recording a newscast at the museum of broadcast communications in 1990 and. you had a forecast complementing that mock broadcast, which I wish we hadn’t lost the video cassette of because now that you’re retired, it’s kind of a piece of history. but there’s no question when I say that watching forecasters like you and a host of others, it’s been a inspiration for my amateur forecasting, which I do with my friends on Facebook in the form of blind side weather. and so you could be proud of the fact that you’ve inspired many to carry on your legacy in one form or another. Good luck on your retirement. and thank you for 45 years at WGN and beyond. PS, I really got a kick out of a couple of my other pictures making it onto your show from here in.Swartz Creek Michigan, and once again in Libertyville during a snowstorm when I was visiting with family. The Michigan pitcher was after the December 2013 ice storm, which crippled a large amount of this region of the state. Thanks again and best wishes.
I was born in July of 96. NEVER BEEN WEST OF CEDAR POINT! I am in Cleveland, and I know of this man, from WGN( on satellite!) Didn't know he retired, until 3 minutes ago! God bless you, sir, Joey
Tom Skilling has been the best meteorologist on Chicago television my entire adult life, ever since he started at WGN. As someone who thrives on outdoor activities, year round, his forecasts were consistently the most accurate and I relied upon them for deciding what activities to do and how to dress and prepare for the weather. Thanks Tom for being the consummate professional and helping us to learn and understand the weather.
Just as I was wondering, there had to be viewers from a little farther outside of Chicago up to the Illinois-Wisconsin border and in the northwest region of Indiana for the WGN weather forecast, right?
@@gregpaspatis9425 No, in Milwaukee we didn't really need to know the weather in Chicago. :) He worked at a station in Milwaukee with a memorable sidekick named Albert The Alley Cat. Look it up! You'll get a kick out of it.

Former Chicagoan and now Detoiter says "Thank you Tom Skilling !" Always looked forward to your weather forcasts when I lived in Park Riidge.
I never lived in Illinois but I would watch him on my cable TV channel really enjoyed him Good luck hope you have a long and healthy retirement God bless Tom.
You Are A 🏆 🤩 TOM. 😢 I'm going to really miss you. You've taught us so much about the weather. Thank You & Farewell.
GBU. 🙏🏽❤🫂💐🙂👍🏾
He's Tom freaking Skilling! Yojngitta find the video with him and Tomasullo. Hysterical!
Chicago needs a Tom Skilling day.
I remember him from Milwaukee. Great guy.
Just as I was wondering, there had to be viewers from a little farther outside of Chicago up to the Illinois-Wisconsin border and in the northwest region of Indiana for the WGN weather forecast, right?
@@gregpaspatis9425 No, he worked in Madison and in Milwaukee at WITI channel 6. He wasn't always in Chicago.
@@gregpaspatis9425 No, in Milwaukee we didn't really need to know the weather in Chicago. :) He worked at a station in Milwaukee with a memorable sidekick named Albert The Alley Cat. Look it up! You'll get a kick out of it.
Fantastic. Just fantastic.
TV icon, Thank you Tom for 45yrs. You will be missed. From southern Illinois, enjoy!😅
The detail and love of weather forecasting Tom displayed was beyond impressive.
Back in the day not all the weather reports were dependable but if you really needed to know for sure you tuned in to Tom because his was the most accurate. Happy retirement and thank you sir. Such a gentleman.
I still remember watching Tom on TV from a Milwaukee station before he moved to Chicago. I was sad to see him leave Milwaukee, but glad to see him retire!
He was such a great weatherman! Super smart. Excellent at explaining weather.
Tom.skilling is a chicago treasure. I'm 44 and tom.has been there every step of my life
