Having said that, apart from Be'lakor, Finnish melodeath is the best. Everything Tuomas Soukkonen from Before the Dawn, RoutaSielu, Black Sun Aeon, Dawn of Solace (fkn wow) to Wolfheart, Wintersun, Insomnium, Omnium Gatherum, ENSIFERUM!!!! ( ok showing my age there).
Sure. - Wolves in the Throne Room. One of the most well known Atmospheric BM bands aside from Agalloch. - Windfaerer. Solar onwards. Latest split reminds me of Agalloch. - Panopticon. My favourite is On the Subject of Mortality, but others tend to like Autumn Eternal/Roads to the North more. - Falls of Rauros. General consensus is that The Light That Dwells in Rotten Wood is the best album, but check out "March of the Valorous Bane" from Into The Archaic as well. - Obsequiae. "Medieval Black Metal". Aria of Vernal Tombs is stunning and my preferred album. - Alda. Doesn't matter what you pick, it's all great, but I think Tahoma is the fan favourite. - Ahamkara. Embers of the Stars was pretty solid. - Nechochwen. Heart of Akamon was one of last year's most lauded releases. Other amazing atmospheric bm projects include Ovnev, Echoes of the Moon, Mavradoxa, Torrid Husk, and so many besides. Just check bandcamp for similar releases. As for labels, Bindrune, Nordvis, Voidhanger, Avantgarde, Northern Silence should do you good.
Winter's Gate was stunning. New DT doesn't impress me. Grey Heavens was aight. Vessels went in a completely different direction. It's alright, but it's not the Be'lakor we know and love.
Saw them live a little while ago and I was astonished by how good they were! I absolutely love the way they utilize tapping to create an almost sci fi melodic sound. Probably one of the more unique melodeath bands I've seen

I just love this band and I think the vocals are great! They could go commercial and sing clean and stuff but they choose to keep the darker factor of the growls. I'll be buying this without a doubt!

If you have read my second sentence, I said that metal originally had soaring vocals referring to NWBHM. All I said that my preference style of vocals is a mix of clean and harsh but I'm fine with just doing cleans or just doing harsh either. Thing is, most new metal band who does harsh vocals now a days are mediocre at best. There many bands who do harsh and cleans at the same time to great results such as Opeth(Before Heritage), Edge of Sanity, Between The Buried and Me, Ne Obliviscaris and I can go on.

OMG this band is unreal. Never heard of them until I saw them open for Dark Tranquility and Sonata Arctica in Silver Springs, Maryland back in July. And after recently listening to all of Grey Heavens and New World Shadows, its clear these guys are for real. Wow. Have only been this blown away by a band in the past 20 years twice before....back when I discovered Dark Tranquility in 2004 and then Nightwish in 2011. This band is special.

My dad's from FInland and he always points out stuff like that, so I'm quite familiar with that stereotypical look: When I went to see Amon Amarth two years ago, they had Dark Tranquillity and Omnium Gatherum as openers. So I knew DT, but this other band was unfamiliar to me. I looked at their singer though and I thought instantly "those guys are from Finland". I looked it up later and I was right :D

Jon Stark Saw them open for Sonata Arctica 2 nights ago and was pleasantly surprised by them. I'm not normally a fan of death metal because I prefer clean vocals but the melodic guitars made me really like them. Plus, their stage presence was top notch.
Amon Amarth got me started into the world of viking metal, then found dark tranquility, heaven shall burn, then I found insomnium, Omnium Gatherum after that, I came across many many more bands if I had to list them all it would take me a while but all of them are just works of art in their own right.

These guys just seem to keep getting better with every album. They find a way to make their music even more and more huge, they deserve to get much more notoriety.
The ending part where he walks in to the light as the music fades off kind of brings out the emotions a bit. Dont know what this song is about but it is very uplifting. Omnium Gatherum rule.
I really like this band & their name reminds me of the arena for concerts in Atlanta , Ga . which I attended many over the years was called The Omni ! It was replaced several years ago by a new & improved bldg. at almost the same site which is known as Phillips Arena .
You know it ! was not a big WCW fan but watched many classic matches on tv with friends on TBS ( & later TNT ? ) in the 70s - 80s . Way more of a music lover / fan & went to tons of concerts basck then - tickets to see 3 bands usually were $5 0r $6 - kinda' miss those prices !

WITH Insomnium, this is the best band of melodic death metal. Great vocal (powerfull growl!!!)and a great lead guitar. Go on headbanging!!!!!....and COME TO SPAIN sometimes!!!Please!!!! UP Omnium Gatherum!!!!!
The reason I love finnish melodic death metal is they really tend to take the melody to a new level, as well as the general structure of the songs. So catchy, but that tends to be the case with finnish music in a wider sense.
Wasn't a big fan of these guys until watching them perform live twice this summer. I was primarily going to see Insomnium and drove 550 miles without knowing half the band was absent. While I commend the fills in for the headliners, I have to say these guys made the drive worthwhile. Jukka was wicked and had great energy for a metal frontman. Plus it was impressive to witness Markus pull double duty and play guitar for both bands. I hope to see them back in the north as headliners soon!
I met the guitarist Marcus V in front of a gig, he shook my hand, and I told him how wonderful his playing is to me.

The ending part where he walks in to the light as the music fades off kind of brings out the emotions a bit. Dont know what this song is about but it is very uplifting. Omnium Gatherum rule.
I really like this band & their name reminds me of the arena for concerts in Atlanta , Ga . which I attended many over the years was called The Omni ! It was replaced several years ago by a new & improved bldg. at almost the same site which is known as Phillips Arena .

You know it ! was not a big WCW fan but watched many classic matches on tv with friends on TBS ( & later TNT ? ) in the 70s - 80s . Way more of a music lover / fan & went to tons of concerts basck then - tickets to see 3 bands usually were $5 0r $6 - kinda' miss those prices !

When I think of a descriptor for how OG songs "feel", it would be oceanic. Expansive and majestic, with an undercurrent of power and violence.

This isn't a band, it's a spell.
The reason I love finnish melodic death metal is they really tend to take the melody to a new level, as well as the general structure of the songs. So catchy, but that tends to be the case with finnish music in a wider sense.
Wasn't a big fan of these guys until watching them perform live twice this summer. I was primarily going to see Insomnium and drove 550 miles without knowing half the band was absent. While I commend the fills in for the headliners, I have to say these guys made the drive worthwhile. Jukka was wicked and had great energy for a metal frontman. Plus it was impressive to witness Markus pull double duty and play guitar for both bands. I hope to see them back in the north as headliners soon!
