  • AWARD WINNING Entire Flick, Full Movie, HD Movie, Full Length Feature Film, English, Original Language: Waking David (2016), Runtime 1h 29min, Drama, 2016 (UK).
Ask no questions, hear no lies...
    Director: Kevin Nash
    Writers: Kristy Bruce, Shane Bruce
Stars: Kristy Bruce, Shane Bruce, Mark Katz
“Waking David” is about the lack of communication within an entire family. A family constructed by some emotionally damaged members, and the current state of kinship-disarray is exasperated due to massive shortages of honest discourse. Director Kevin Nash introduces us to this mystery, one in which every on-screen character - apparently - knows the answer to it, except for Scarlett. Due to Scarlett’s nature, however, she is determined to find answers to her open questions. Since we, the audience, seek similar answers, this places Scarlett in a valuable lead protagonist role.
A family drama of powerful intensity, Kevin Nash's debut feature takes its cue from the Mike Leigh playbook. A young American woman arrives in England seeking to reconnect with her father's family, only to find them peculiarly reticent about her arrival. Delving deeper, she slowly uncovers a web of trauma, deceit and repressed memory attached to her father's legacy. Brimming with excellent performances and powerful scenes of dramatic revelation, Nash's control of a drama predominantly set in one house is impressive, especially given that the performances here are largely improvised.

Scarlett, a successful American health psychologist, passes through London for a conference. Yet her goal is to meet Amy, her hitherto unknown half-sister, and to find out about their father, David, who died 10 years earlier - and whom she’d never met. She spends the weekend with Amy and Amy’s mother, Julie. Scarlett soon finds that she is less than welcome in Julie’s household and that there is a wall of silence about David. Even so, during the course of the weekend, the relationship between Amy and Scarlett softens and they begin to accept each other. Amy starts to open up about David, revealing a caring father and husband. However, the same night, during dinner with the whole family, serious doubts are cast on the image of David that Amy had conveyed to Scarlett. As the evening progresses, Scarlett digs deeper. When the truth is finally revealed, it shatters the stability of the family, causing all of the family and Scarlett to reassess their relationship to one another.

I'm also trying to do some stuff I have never even heard of.
And that is a easy part.
The hard part is that that stuff happened to me for five minutes in 1995, was something of this beautiful world and I feel it happened once and that is it.
      Take it easy, girl.
      Peace and happiness to you!

The mother received a great gift. 2 gifts in fact. The first being her husband and father of her child was indeed not the man his sister in-law made him out to be and there wasn't anything horrible, that had happened, except a one night fling. The second gift was she wasn't building a relationship and new marriage on two lies. The daughter could crawl out of her victim prison she had built and healing could take place. The man has to come to grips with who he is and what he did and the lies he was living or not; it is his choice. Scarlet was the best thing, that happened to mother and daughter, despite her husbands infidelity. The truth really does set all free and each can come to their own self awareness.

Halfway in I thought it was a Mike Leigh film and checked the info. Has a similar vibe and really captures a realistic awkwardness not normally captured by movies but many families have some of this dynamic.

You know when some covers band does a version of, say, a Rolling Stones or a Steely Dan number --- this film was like that but of Mike Leigh's HUUUUUUGE film SECRETS & LIES. That said, I quite enjoyed it and watched it right through, and say well done all involved - on your budget - you did great work.

Just think; had Helen not been such a nosy, big mouth know-it-all, none of it would have happened. She wouldn’t have read Amy’s diary and assumed that Amy was talking about her dad sexually abusing her. He wouldn’t have gotten wasted and crashed his car and died, and Amy’s mom wouldn’t be engaged to the man that Amy ACTUALLY slept with.
Moral of the story: MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS! Don’t be a Karen. 😂🤣

Great to see a movie that brings to light the way our lives are affected by lies & omissions.
"Communication Is paramount to the success of any relationship".
the inter-person relationships and how lies and omissions can wreck the very life out of ones lives. Others present the illusion that all is fine, even though inside there is a knowing that something is very wrong and others who just don't want to know.
Reminds me of all the things in my family that were never discussed, aka, lies.
Nice movie showing the harm lies and Denial of truth can do.

Not sure if it is really all about the importance of honesty and clear communication: Timing is another factor. The last scene indicates the possible suicide by Simon this time sort of returning what David had undeservedly paid the cost instead of him.
Scarlet is returning to Amy’s house again next morning : She must have sensed the menace she has wrecked on the multiple people’s lives in ignorance and in the name of a holy chalice of Truth and Honesty ( Standing for young American civilization’s optimism and naïveté at the same time. She is literally a propagandist of this as shown in the first scene that she - a young energetic American preaching about it in Europe: a metaphor for the entire plot to be unfolded. )
I liked the open end : Would retuned Scarlet maneuver the same tactic of a blunt and brutal straightforwardness or would she find more subtle way to address the issue? After all “Not everybody has a privilege [like you]” and “ she doesn’t know anything about lives here.”

Yes, absolutely, unless those who are to blame are personality disordered abusers. ;) They *always* punish to no end once called on their set-ups and corruption and abuses. Their behavioural patterns should be legally criminalised. They gleefully destroy health, relationships, opportunities, social lives, futures and much more.
I do agree, @mama loves, but we need to get to know our abusers and self-protect before calling them out as well. :)

She was right in the first scene...…"Communication Is paramount to the success of any relationship". This movie is an agonizing (and quite slow) study of a family that should have used a lot more honesty and communication...….and they paid the price on many levels for not doing so expediently.
The viewer will enjoy this movie best if they can observe small nuances and THINK.
The movie is OK for "one watch".....But it does not make "the cut" for me to want to see it again.

How do you say "Brilliant" in British speak - an American What did Eddie Izzard say ? "America and The United Kingdom.. Two countries divided by a common language" but in the end , i think, there came a universal truth. I loved this, thank you

Great film and a tough topic well handled. Also how cultural differences affect the way we deal with situations.

Family "secrets" are very destructive. My family had many. I suppose this is universal. Good luck to those who are brave enough to bring to light dark secrets.

So many layers to this. Not sure about the tell-all dictate being the best (and only) solution, but not correcting a lie/misconception is nearly as lethal as the lie itself - if not, more so.
