I am pretty sure that the name Lucifer was chosen for the more literal meaning of "bringer of dawn," as that is closer to the meaning of the original Hebrew "hêlêl ben šāḥar." So referring to Satan with the epithet "the Morning Star" is not really appropriate despite its technical accuracy.

The rise of the Lady Death material always made me sad, as the source material that spawned her was left in the Double D dust. I miss Evil Ernie. An unkillable homicidal maniac who is single-handedly responsible for the world killing zombie apocalypse as the chief soldier of Death herself. He was a Deadpool class wackjob,and a great villain. AND he was the star of the comic. I liked a comic where the supporting cast were trying to stop the main character from ending the world, and were failing because he was literally the biggest, baddest thing on the planet.

They actually wanted a bigger budget to do the animation. They had problems getting this off the ground! Originally it was to been out in 2001. They also had partners who kept dropping out and 3 studios who wouldnt take the project due to the budget. The studio that ended up doing it ended up getting a deadline to finish it on a small budget and with the company owner (cant remember his name) came out of retirement to draw animation for certain character sequences to get it done, with a small crew of 20 or less animators, colorists, ect. Considering that Street Fighter, Dark Stalkers, Double Dragon had way more budget and more animators ect it was still awfully bad SHATerday morning cartoons I have ever witnessed. In my opinion It really is good for the day and even though ADV is known to put out sexual, perverted, vulgar and profane, Anime's I think they played it safe as they were hoping to appeal to a broader audience. It wasnt overly sexual or violent and there wasnt even any profane language as the comics were. Even when I asked the producers of this movie when it first came out at wizard world '04 they told me they hope it inspires people who love the character to make the money so that they can make a bigger and better one because they were passionate about Lady Death. The animation they really wanted to go for at the time was that like Vampire D Blood Lust but they only made their money back on the project. I still would like to see a R rated Lady Death movie.

Well because of the little fact that they had to choose a rare little biblical name for Satan's alias which also happens to be my name, Mathias or Matthias depending on how you choose to spell it. Exactly this is accurate to the comics as in the comics Lady Death is known to be a good strategist and tactician as while yes she can be a bit of a hot head and very eager for battle she's not a complete idiot she's well aware to the notion that if a battle is won way to easily then something's up and will actually hold off just in case her hunch is correct and that it was won way to easily due to the enemy force her and her force is battling is trying to lure them into a trap.

It's all lore, no character, a mode I remember the Witchblade comics stayed at for a distressingly long time. (I read 40 to 45 issues of the early Witchblade stuff on the web for free and it was DIRE trying to hold on to some sort of compelling character trait, positive OR negative, that you could apply to early Sara Pezzini.) Lady Death: The Reckoning, meanwhile...by the standards of the Bad Girl trend, it's the gold standard every other book or adaptation of that trend should be compared against. And compared to that source material? This is some INTENSELY watered down backwash. Let's compare the endings: At the end of Lady Death: The Reckoning, Hope has been so corrupted by the influence of hell that she's cursed to commit human extermination to walk on Earth again and she's okay with it. That's sympathetic, in a "tragic evil" kind of way, and still coherent. At the end of Lady Death: The Motion Picture, she has the same end goal of "walking on earth again", but the "curse" is to kill the devil's lackeys. That's more conventionally sympathetic, but it's also incoherent (for many reasons, but mostly because, especially in comparison, that's barely a curse) and bland.
One of the many things that makes this p.o.s. what it is, is something that I haven't seen addressed yet. Before Lady Death was sent to Hell she was named Hope and lived in Sweden during the late 15th century. If that's the case then her name would actually be Hopp. The Swedish word for hope is hopp. It's not an actual Swedish name, it's just a random word they chose for her character because the hacks that wrote this couldn't have been more obvious if they had actually tried.
My favourite portrait of the devil is, The Spirit That Denies, Mephistopheles from Faust. "I am part of the power which would, attempt evil and ever does the good." Mephistopheles is aware that he sabotages himself, yet he is unable to stop. You could even argue the bet that drives the plot is a trick from God to let Mephistopheles do his work.
Art style wise, this kind of feels like the awful Marvel Mangaverse- like somebody who has never drawn manga in their life attempts to do just that for the first time based entirely on that one episode of Sword Art Online they saw their kid watching once.
I know it's an old video..and I've watched it a ton without commenting. But the thing with Lady Death..I can see an interesting story that just been slapped dashed together. If it landed in the right hands it could be a pretty awesome movie or series.

Chaos had a bunch of characters like LD, including her arch-nemesis Purgatori (probably the more interesting character). Also, ADV kinda crapped on the entire origin story.
you all can keep your opinions, I just have to state that Bikini's make for the stupidest battle attire- both in practical and in looks. I will not take a character seriously if they run around with (giant) swords while exposing themselves, as in to tattoo the words "Hit me here". And on the line of sex appeal, characters: male and female, can be fully clothed/armor and still be sexy. Hell, Wonder Woman's costume looks more like proper battle attire

+Wretneck I believe you skipped something: having less clothing can actually make you go faster; as long as that character having less clothing is the speed character, then it's fine. Also, in Kill la Kill, they at least had an excuse; people with the Kiryuine blood (like Ryoko, Nui, Satsuki, or Ragyo) were actually part clothing, and the only way they can be killed is if they are sliced on both sides at the exact same time completely. If there's only one string left, then they can just regenerate. Also, none of the other characters became more powerful when they had less clothing on; the advantage that the Kiryuine's have is because of their advantages, clothing can actually make them better. It can make them go faster; the only reason why that Nudist Beach guy is naked for most of the series is because he's a nudist. Also, the reason why the majority of the cast was naked at the end of the series was because the premordial life fiber was coming back to life to eat everyone. If somebody put clothes on, the clothing could actually eat them; this is because Reeboks is the biggest clothing brand in the world, and Reeboks was the company that actually had life fibers in their clothing that could consume others. There, I explained how Kill la Kill did everything what; also, the unlikeable character who always tried to pick up chicks ALWAYS got his commupance in the end.
Sage, you should probably consider looking at Dante's Inferno: An Animated Epic based on the video game. It's very anime-esque and was reportedly worked on by six different animation studios (including Japanese), hence the random shifts in art style. The narrative is also rather messy, trying to compress the entire storyline into an hour and a half movie.
I know this is just a review, but every scene you showed either completely perplexed me or made me roll my eyes. The actual movie must be cringeworthy! Also, have many reviews have you uploaded today? My subscription box is going to give you a restraining order.

+Paul Hensley I'd recommend it. The movie had a lot working against it, and her comics were far more darker (and sexier) than the movie leads on. Make sure to look at the original Chaos Comics versions from the 90's. The new ones are just fanservice with no real mature settings or themes.

My personal favourite portrayal of Satan is in The Devils Carnival movies - a rebel fighting against divine tyrrany wherein his goal is to use sinners to make them think they've earned a ticket to heaven with reenacting their sins through Carnival routines (its an ODD series of films) when really he's using them to "corrupt" Heaven and take over God's work.

My problem with the show was that I had no one to root for. In a battle of satan against sexy replacement satan and demons verses demons what is the point of being invested in either character? Furthermore Lady death is the one who influences evil ernie to wipe out humanity so she may well be worse than satan but to say that is like saying rape is better than murder.

Let's compare the endings: At the end of Lady Death: The Reckoning, Hope has been so corrupted by the influence of hell that she's cursed to commit human extermination to walk on Earth again and she's okay with it. That's sympathetic, in a "tragic evil" kind of way, and still coherent. At the end of Lady Death: The Motion Picture, she has the same end goal of "walking on earth again", but the "curse" is to kill the devil's lackeys. That's more conventionally sympathetic, but it's also incoherent (for many reasons, but mostly because, especially in comparison, that's barely a curse) and bland.
Nah, Hope wouldn't have gone to Hell - she'd have gone to Heaven instead! After all, where else was she *supposed* to go - Detroit?
One of the many things that makes this p.o.s. what it is, is something that I haven't seen addressed yet. Before Lady Death was sent to Hell she was named Hope and lived in Sweden during the late 15th century. If that's the case then her name would actually be Hopp. The Swedish word for hope is hopp. It's not an actual Swedish name, it's just a random word they chose for her character because the hacks that wrote this couldn't have been more obvious if they had actually tried.
My favourite portrait of the devil is, The Spirit That Denies, Mephistopheles from Faust.
"I am part of the power which would,
attempt evil and ever does the good."
Mephistopheles is aware that he sabotages himself, yet he is unable to stop. You could even argue the bet that drives the plot is a trick from God to let Mephistopheles do his work.
So is this the same lady death that has a doomed relationship with deadpool weird.

I know it's an old video..and I've watched it a ton without commenting. But the thing with Lady Death..I can see an interesting story that just been slapped dashed together. If it landed in the right hands it could be a pretty awesome movie or series.

you all can keep your opinions, I just have to state that Bikini's make for the stupidest battle attire- both in practical and in looks. I will not take a character seriously if they run around with (giant) swords while exposing themselves, as in to tattoo the words "Hit me here".
And on the line of sex appeal, characters: male and female, can be fully clothed/armor and still be sexy. Hell, Wonder Woman's costume looks more like proper battle attire

+Wretneck I believe you skipped something: having less clothing can actually make you go faster; as long as that character having less clothing is the speed character, then it's fine. Also, in Kill la Kill, they at least had an excuse; people with the Kiryuine blood (like Ryoko, Nui, Satsuki, or Ragyo) were actually part clothing, and the only way they can be killed is if they are sliced on both sides at the exact same time completely. If there's only one string left, then they can just regenerate. Also, none of the other characters became more powerful when they had less clothing on; the advantage that the Kiryuine's have is because of their advantages, clothing can actually make them better. It can make them go faster; the only reason why that Nudist Beach guy is naked for most of the series is because he's a nudist. Also, the reason why the majority of the cast was naked at the end of the series was because the premordial life fiber was coming back to life to eat everyone. If somebody put clothes on, the clothing could actually eat them; this is because Reeboks is the biggest clothing brand in the world, and Reeboks was the company that actually had life fibers in their clothing that could consume others.
There, I explained how Kill la Kill did everything what; also, the unlikeable character who always tried to pick up chicks ALWAYS got his commupance in the end.

Sage, you should probably consider looking at Dante's Inferno: An Animated Epic based on the video game. It's very anime-esque and was reportedly worked on by six different animation studios (including Japanese), hence the random shifts in art style. The narrative is also rather messy, trying to compress the entire storyline into an hour and a half movie.
I know this is just a review, but every scene you showed either completely perplexed me or made me roll my eyes. The actual movie must be cringeworthy!

It's worth noting that Satan's interest in his own daughter is actually semi-canonical. If you accept John Milton as canon.

I'd recommend it. The movie had a lot working against it, and her comics were far more darker (and sexier) than the movie leads on. Make sure to look at the original Chaos Comics versions from the 90's. The new ones are just fanservice with no real mature settings or themes.

My personal favourite portrayal of Satan is in The Devils Carnival movies - a rebel fighting against divine tyrrany wherein his goal is to use sinners to make them think they've earned a ticket to heaven with reenacting their sins through Carnival routines (its an ODD series of films) when really he's using them to "corrupt" Heaven and take over God's work.
Eh I've never been a fan of "God is Evil" stories, I'm Catholic and I find it borderline offensive. But hey if you like them good for you.

Then again, there was a rule that frowns upon people visualizing God in ANY way, such as drawing/painting/sculpting God, just look at Christian/Catholic churches. THEY'RE FILLED WITH THEM.

Like, this was proximate to the Medieval times, saying you blatantly need "souls" would raise red flags which is exactly what made the priest suspicious in the first place, in other works of literature and film, they had Satan's human counterpart be clever in luring people to his place through deceptive scams like "Hey why don't you work as a servant in my castle" or "I actually need recruits to build a army for the crusade and/or battle against a enemy country." I mean, he was the high-class ruling Lord of the Land, so to speak, so he could have said those things and people would have had to go with him no questions asked. Unless he said "souls" tongue-in-cheek instead of actually seriously, it was pretty stupid on his part in the beginning of the movie.

My problem with the show was that I had no one to root for. In a battle of satan against sexy replacement satan and demons verses demons what is the point of being invested in either character? Furthermore Lady death is the one who influences evil ernie to wipe out humanity so she may well be worse than satan but to say that is like saying rape is better than murder.
The story itself is actually pretty entertaining even with some corny dialogue. It has the feel of some video games turned into a movie.
Maybe I'm too far gone into staring at lady death's lady lumps and so I never noticed any plot holes. Priorities.
