As I never tire of saying, since the 1990's, for too long we have been "soft on crime, soft on the causes of crime." Too many do-gooders, too many people putting the criminal first, too many parole boards letting criminals out of prison with no sanctions on them when the criminals go on to reoffend. Although these heroes are good to see where will it end - Anarchy and the beginning of the breakdown of our society.

There needs to be repercussions when you are caught as the man concludes. You can 'catch' as many as you want but unless there is a consequence nothing will change. we have seen this time and time again, it is so infuriating. The police (and courts) are literally making additional work for themselves by not doing this, repeatedly having to come out to the same places to move on the same people.

I got hold of the guy and a female "manager" arrived and I told her to call the police, to which she replied "They won't come, what's the point? "

if she called the police in some cases you could be detaining that person for hours. waiting.. and that's if they turn up. only way you would get a quick response is if there is violence involved or weapons involved at which point the items stolen are not worth risking your life for... a dirty needle prick could have serious life long consequences. but in fairness to the police the individual officers want to help but the justice system after them is a shambles and lets them down as much as us.

In the context of history, the concept of a civil police force is very new. It used to be a community effort to ensure crime in a society was 'policed'. There was also the concept of community/family shame. That largely doesn't exist in the modern era. If the official police force has utterly failed to protect citizens then communities have no choice but to protect themselves outside of the useless 'legal parameters'. The ultra-liberal policies of the entire justice system simply doesn't work. The experiment has failed miserably. It can work in a high trust homogenous society like Japan or Sweden(before mass migration destroyed it), but it is impossible in a fractured 'multicultural' society. Other cultures view tolerance as weakness.

The big problem here is prison is no longer a deterrent, a few months in prison only means something to normal honest people because you have something to lose (home, job, car , family etc) Most thieves live off the tax payer and have very little to lose so going to prison doesn't mean anything they just come out again and rinse and repeat...

you have missed the point of the video and the issue in general, our justice system is no longer fit for purpose and is not a real deterrent. most large companies do pay for security in many forms (guarding, barriers, CCTV, tags, alarms, body cams, boxes etc) all this has a cost that is passed onto the honest customers meaning not only are you paying higher prices to cover these costs but the tax payer is also funding this lifestyle through the benefits system... so who really loses out from all this?

I see your point and I agree . The supermarkets are to blame partly it's daylight robbery what they are now charging for basic food items. Millions of pounds worth of food gets thrown away. Food that gets passed its sell by date. That food could be sold off cheaper. The pathetic bits they put out for customers is nothing to what's getting thrown away. Our is it all going to the illegal immigrants in hotels . You got to wonder.

There is another it's called greed, there was a report recently that showed supermarkets putting up prices beyond what they needed to to make up for their increased post pandemic costs. There are always multiple reasons for anything that happens normally greed is quite high on these lists.

I have worked in food retail for 15 years, i have worked in a mix of areas where people would be considered well off and considered on the poorer side. i am actually getting fed up with this idea that suddenly all theft is normal people doing it to survive. its not, the average theft being committed aren't your hard working person hitting hard times. they are the same people its always been where theft is part of their life style. fill a bag full of meat/baby milk/washing liquids etc and knock on doors selling it, the money is then used to fund drug addictions/smoking/alcohol whatever their tax payer hand outs won't pay for. the difference is they are now doing it in far more often and in many cases becoming aggressive and violent simply because their is no longer any consequences that matter to them. a few months in prison means nothing to them they just come out again rinse and repeat. sadly the honest people as always will foot the bill in higher prices to cover either the losses or the increase in security costs..

Prosecution will do little as they will not face jail time, if they receive a fine they will pay back a 1 a month or whatever they can afford. Our prisons are overrun as it is. GB news is out of touch with the poor rough areas in Britain. Some of the places I have lived in are no go areas now but have been for years and shoplifting is now unprecedented but if you go into any of these houses they have the best tvs gadgets clothes etc. Also you get one person on the estate that often receives all the stolen goods and will sell them on and they will either exchange the stuff for drugs, alcohol or cash if they are items the family doesn't need. It will only get worse if you cut Universal income. What is needed is police to be on the beat not policing the internet 24/7 especially with the new online bill. Parents can protect their children online or should. You put on notifications etc you limit their time you monitor what they see. What we need are officers in the community who know the families who are up to no good, historically it is always one or two and it is time our police carried weapons as the situation has changed with who is moving into our towns and villages. Also the elephant in the room no one will discuss is the rise in young men who can't speak English who hang around on corners who are bored and come here expecting a different reality. They harrass women, you have to cross the road and god forbid you end up alone with them. Our politicians and the liberal luvvies don't live with it so they can sit in their high tower spouting nonsense because it isn't them that gets raped or attacked then they spout utter nonsense like 'refugees welcome here' when most aren't refugees and no none of them would offer them a room it is just virtue signalling', 9/10 it is middle class or rich who hold up signs because it doesn't affect you. I am talking illegal immigration not legal because the people who come here legally, work are law abiding and they add to the community. When it works and people assimiliate it is great but it is these mass gangs of young men beating up locals or starting fights. I'm cool with genuine families who escape war and persecution. I'm not cool with people who openly hate the UK and just expect to be given everything yet give nothing back. This country is lost.

As for ex military personnel making good police officers what previous employment did Rapist/murderer PC Wayne Couzins and rapist PC David Carrick have in common before joining the police? …… that’s right they were both ex military PC Carrick served in the Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment and the Royal Logistics Corps including action in Cyprus. PC Couzens served in the 3rd battalion, the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment.
