To your point about stars (I am an astronomer), when a star dies it will shed its outer layers into what we call the "Interstellar Medium." Sometimes it is more gradual, what we call a Planetary Nebula, sometimes more extreme, what we call a Supernova. In fact, the shock waves from a supernova can actually cause new stars to be born. Those shed layers become a part of space, from which new stars are born. Future generations of stars will contain that shed material, and by that way slowly change the overall composition a stars. It's a beautiful analogy for Jonghyun's life and passing. He was definitely a supernova.
Shinee did a concert 2 months after jonghyuns passing. They were going to cancel it but jonghyuns mom and sister incuraged them to do it for jonghyun, there fans and themselves. When they performed from now on it was four boys, five microphones, tears and heartache but they made it through beautifully. It was truly painful to watch but so moving and awe inspiring.i wasn't going to watch it but realized it was harder for them and as a fan I need to support all of shinee painful or not. We also need to show how important this was to us and them. It's very hard to watch but the song is amazing and so our they. Please check it out and give your love to these great guys. Thank you so much for this great reaction
That moment you see Onew in the background pumping his arm to try to psych himself up before he breaks down trying to sing the next line. That's where I lose it.
yes that year was hard for them, not only because they lost someone important but also because people were so mean with shinee, said a lot of bad things just because they decided to continue what jonghyun left incomplete. i will always admire and love them for being so strong and keep him with them, shinee and shawol are one heart 🤍 until today they are doing an amazing job, im so proud of them!!
SHINee always has tributes to Jonghyun built into their songs and videos. From the empty arm in Atlantis, to the shadow in the well, to the lyrics of Gravity on their most recent album.
The "You Did Well" is an question that Jonghyun posed in his last letter to the world. The lyric in this song is basically an affirmation from the boys that yes, he did well. That's what kills us all.
the reason onew says "you did well" at the end of the song, is because of jonghyun's suicide note. it was published as per his wishes, with his family's consent. it ends with "just tell me I've done well. That it was good of me to come this far. That I've worked hard. Even if you can't smile as you let me go, please don't blame me. You did well, you worked hard." this song is so very painful, but i can't even imagine how painful it is for shinee. no matter how hard it is to listen to, it's important for us all to do so and never forget jonghyun. he will always be remembered
I love how the Shinee color, pearl aqua, leads them all thought the video. A beautiful way of saying they are always together. The pain is palpable in each member - God bless each of them.
in this song you can feel all the love that the members feel for Jonghyun. the last phrase "You did well" also appears at the end of a Jonghyun song End of day
As if they're just going through the motions, not really living due to Jonghyun's passing. To this day, Key has been interviewed and talks about how no one wants/wanted to talk about Jonghyun. Saw an interview about 4 months ago, and he brought it up. Yet, Min-ho, when accepting an award, looks up to the shy and thanks Jonghyun. To say, YOU made us what we are today with your talent. 😢 💙
Please Please, if you haven't already, look up the lyrics for SHINee's "Our Page." I feel like, out of all Kpop songs in existence, this is one of the most important songs to know what the lyrics are about. Every word of the song was wrote by the members and it is all about Jonghyun. The lyrics make reference to things that Jonghyun said to them in the letter he left them when he died. Every word is talking about their relationship as a group and their relationship with Jonghyun. The song and lyrics are a tribute to him and the more than 10 years the members spent together as a group. The official lyric video for SHINee's "Our Page" is posted, not on SM's main channel, but on SM's !t Live channel. !t Live is another SM brand that SM creates official lyric videos and other content related to their MVs and groups under. (If you think this MV is emotional now, just wait until you understand the lyrics. It will help you understand everything you saw happening in the MV.) As the lyrics say, "We'll stick together through thick and thin, When I look back on the road we've traveled, The five of us holding hands and shedding tears together, The memories are so clear, I never want to forget it. And can never forget it ...", etc. As you discovered, if you know their backstory, than it should be fairly easy to understand that they are talking about Jonghyun and everything they have been through in the past 10 years. As the chorus says, "The beautiful words you've left behind (referring to the letters Jonghyun wrote to them before he died), Are like a poem and have become a song. (Jonghyun's words and thoughts have become lyrics to this song, as well as dozens of other songs he wrote throughout his lifetime, etc.) We raise our voices high, Knowing that it'll reach up to where you are (Their voices will reach Jonghyun in Heaven) When the stars fade, will it all be forgotten? (They are saying, they will never let their star fade so that Jonghyun will never be forgotten, and they will keep on living to keep his memory alive, etc.), You were so special to me, so I hold you close (Talking directly to Jonghyun),This page in the novel has yet to end (The song is called "Our Page", so they are talking about telling their story and creating the pages of their novel that has yet to end because they are still writing it every day.) I want to stay together until the end (Taemin has always said that he never wants SHINee to break up and that he wants them to still be together even after they are married with children and are in their 50s, 60s, 70s)," etc. In the story in the MV the members are just trying to go about their everyday lives in a world that no longer makes sense to them. It is showing them grieving Jonghyun's death. This song is very powerful and full of meaning. The message each of them sings about is very personal to them -- they each wrote their own lines -- and it's about their journey as a group and how much impact Jonghyun had in their life. And, as the members have said, it's about all the things they wish they could have told Jonghyun, etc. "Our Page" is epic because it should be epic. It was the song that made Shawols feel like it was finally OK to start to get back to a little bit of normal again. It was a moment of collective catharsis for everyone within the fandom and it showed us that the members were finally ready to get back to what they loved and they were more dedicated then ever to continue on as a group. I feel like people miss so much of the meaning and story in the MV if you don't know what the lyrics are about.
In the MV, in the beginning you see each of the members struggling just to carry on with everyday life. But because they have no other choice, they all decide that the only way to honor Jonghyun's memory is to continue on. So you see Onew get back to composing songs (Jonghyun was the songwriter of the group so, this scene also is supposed to invoke memories of him as well), Taemin goes back to the gym (Jonghyun also spent a lot of time in the gym, so this was also Taemin's way of connecting with Jonghyun.) Minho is one of the top actors in Korea and when Jonghyun died he was on set filming for a drama, so we see Minho trying to get back to his normal routine and back to filming. And Key is one of the members, besides Taemin, who is known for his dancing, so you see him getting back to the dance studio and practicing the choreography for his solo debut album. Fun fact: We didn't know that what we saw in this MV was a secret reveal of Key's choreography for his debut solo releases, but since then, now that Key's album and MVs have come out, we realize that this was the choreography for one of his solo songs. The background beat of the song is supposed to represent the heartbeat of the group, the heartbeat of the fans, everything that kept the members moving forward and what brings them together as a group, etc. Every part of this song was done very purposefully and deliberately. The green/aqua blue light you see all around them is SHINee's fan color, and it represents how Jonghyun is always all around them and how he is calling them back to the stage. The light washes over the members representing how the fans' love, support and solidarity within the fandom gives the members the strength to carry on and to continue as a group. At one point we see each of the members standing still in a room while the world around them continues on. This represents how their world came to a standstill when Jonghyun died and how for a while it felt like their world stopped while everyone else continued living their lives. As they climb the stairs to the stage we see the lights come on one by one. I like to think that was each of the fans sending their support to encourage them to keep moving forward. And then once on stage we see the members all standing on stage with the one empty mic stand in the center that represents Jonghyun. Fun fact No. 2: Just like SHINee's "1 Of 1" MV was 5:25 long because it was supposed to represent how SHINee debuted 5/25/08, "Our Page" was 5:10 long because it was a reference to the fact that SHINee will forever be a group of 5 and this album is celebrating their 10th anniversary. So, this album, The Story of Light, is all about Jonghyun and every main track song has something to do with what they went through in the 5 months leading up to this album release, etc. For SHINee's 10th anniversary they released 3 albums -- Ep. 1, Ep. 2 and Ep. 3 -- with 5 songs each, as part of a trilogy that make up The Story of Light. The main track songs and MVs for each album are connected. As you have heard, "Good Evening" is about SHINee's grieving process and the way the public sees them. "I Want You" is about learning to find happiness again and how they are personally dealing with everything that happened and "Our Page" is the members telling Jonghyun's and their story. Then "Countless" wraps the whole story up and marks the beginning of a new chapter in SHINee's career.
Wait till you watch the from now on performance. That is like this song. Very poinint and powerful too for jonghyun. But the members break down in that one and cry their eyes out. This is one of their most powerful worded songs
Tears. Always hit me too hard. Always love you. Shawol, I love you all 😭❤ Edit: I'm just a lurker, but thank you for talking about energy and how he won't be forgotten. Weirdly, it comforted me.
The lights are aqua color, so I think it also symblizes the fans who lead them back to performing on a stage together at the end. Also ties into the 'good evening' MV where they danced on an aqua colored platform.
I cry every single time. Sadly, after Jjong passed, I was unable to listen to SHINee or his albums (some of my favorites) bcs I’d immediately burst into tears.
I really love ur reaction! have u ever react to Jonghyun's End Of the Day? he wrote the song. and on that song he use the "수고했어요(you did well)" as the catchphrase. it's so beautiful, this song comfort me so much. and SHINee ki da saying those words back to Jjong in this song ❤ oh and if u react to this, make sure to read the lyrics. thanks! gbu!
I think showing them separately during the video and time passing also illustrates that they didn't actually start the healing process until they came together. Which is magnified by them singing in unison which is harder than singing in harmony.
I can't listen to this without crying, so I avoid it. The lyrics are so strong, so meaningful, so felt together with their voices. I always think of people who I've lost, who are no longer with us, but they were here once, living their lives and were loved. This song is majestic and haunting.
They say time is a cure for pain, years have passed but all my feelings are still the same.. At the end of the song, when he says "you did well" I get goosebumps and tears involuntarily flow. I feel that Jonghyun is still with us and I tell him every day this sentence that he needs to hear the most, accompanied by Jonghyun's "end of a day" 🫂
If you’re interested check out their From Now On performance, it’s very emotional with 4 boys on stage but 5 mics and Jonghyun is singing too. Took me a long time to watch this ❤
YOU DON'T JUST LOSE SOMEONE ONCE. You lose them over and over, sometimes in the same day. When the loss, momentarily forgotten, creeps up and attacks you from behind. Fresh waves of grief as the realization hits home, they are gone. Again........
Also as a little detail, it's said that the intro refers to what the boys were doing at the time staff were told them about Jong. That's why each of them focuses on their own moment of shock and how they were dealing with their grief for themselves.
The "You did well" at the end hits especially hard because in his su*cide note, Jonghyun wrote to his sister "Just tell me i did well. Tell me i suffered enough."
Ruh ölümsüzdür. Beden sadece bu dünyada lazım olan kapsülümuz dür. Umarım jonghyun şu an daha mutlu ve huzurludur. Onun gidişine üzülen binlerce insan için mutlu olmayı hak ediyor....
Sorry for the spamming, I just wanted to send out a warning for From Now On. I've seen reactors ugly cry while watching it, especially if they have developed a love for SHINee and Jonghyun, which can happen after a deep dive. In going through most of their title tracks plus a few side journeys, I'd say you've done a deep dive.

"You did well" that the most important line to me.

Thank you for this reaction & looking up the lyrics. This song hits hard but it’s a beautiful song. SHINee will always be 5. ❤

This is one of their most powerful worded songs
I loved your reaction but mostly your analysis of the lyrics. Very well said. Thank you! 💙
Watch "From Now On" live, with the lyrics, this was their last japanese song with Jonghyun.
Tears. Always hit me too hard. Always love you. Shawol, I love you all 😭❤
Edit: I'm just a lurker, but thank you for talking about energy and how he won't be forgotten. Weirdly, it comforted me.

They released this song for Jonghyun like a month after my nephew passed away, so this song is like a punch in the gut everytime I hear it

-very powerful I’m glad you’re reacting to SHINee.
I didn't know that I would actually cry over this song again
Our page is always a huge combo of emotions, but kn the end it is grateful that I feel the most
Next SHINee “ from now on “ live
I can't listen to this without crying, so I avoid it. The lyrics are so strong, so meaningful, so felt together with their voices. I always think of people who I've lost, who are no longer with us, but they were here once, living their lives and were loved. This song is majestic and haunting.

I recommend you watch SHINee's Back, a 5 part vlog ater Jjong's passing. I think you'd get a lot out of it.
God it’s been so long since I looked up the lyrics I forgot them and just hearing “You did well” is gonna have me in tears on my lunch break
I’m very glad you experienced this m/v bc it’s so special
I know I will cry but click anyway. I remember this time so clearly as well
If you’re interested check out their From Now On performance, it’s very emotional with 4 boys on stage but 5 mics and Jonghyun is singing too. Took me a long time to watch this ❤

Please react to Onew and SWJ's version of Selene 6.23 in Sea of Hope episode
Gracias por tus reacciones son las mejores.
I was okay until you read the lyrics out loud. Those words .. the feels. Even though it's been a while it still hurts.
I think it took me a year to watch this one bc I just couldn't do it
