  • TrainController Gold 9 How to use +SmartHand
In this video I will show you how/demonstration to use and customise +SmartHand on my Fallen Log Railway. +SmartHand is an add to TrainController Software. +SmartHand is a powerful tool as you can you use it as a soft control panel on your model railroad. The soft control panel eliminates the need to for extensive wiring to each panel. +SmartHand can also be used to control locomotives and their decoder functions. Furthermore, +SmartHand is a power tool that also controls schedules, routes, turnouts and signals from the palm of your own hand. The user is able to customise their controller to suit their needs. A system of privileges can be defined to adapt to each operator based on their skill level-novice to expert. For example the system can be set up so only a particular controller can control a particular train. Like in the real world.
This is all done by the built in web server, where each device accesses ths system using an IP address. On my layout I use desk top PCs to control all aspects of my layout. Up to 31 devices can be connected to the system and any one time.
It really is a very powerful piece of software.

    Hi,
I’ve been using TC Bronze for about 7 years now, I don’t run my layout with any automation as it’s a shunting layout. I do run it through a lap top and a 21” monitor, I also run 4D sound. I was thinking about getting smart hand as I control my Loco via a mouse, which means I’m tied to one position, which can be a pain at times. If I use my NCE controller the sound doesn’t follow the Loco as the Loco icon doesn’t follow the Loco. You say you use your controller to move your loco’s, do you have the same issue or is there a setting I’m missing.

Hi John, I use SmartHand rarely on my phone because, as per say, I like the you like using your dcc systems own controller. When you say the sound is not following the train. Is this 4D sound?

@@ModelRailroadTechniques Hi yes 4D sound and the train picture in the block stays where I last moved it with the mouse. I’ve just downloaded smart hand, I only used it on my iPhone at the moment, I’ll try it on an iPad tomorrow.

@@ModelRailroadTechniques Hi again, I tried smart hand today, can't say I was too impressed with it for controlling loco's. You need two hands to use it where as I can hold my NCE controller in one. When you use your controller does the loco picture follow around your blocks as it would with smart hand.
      Cheers
      John

John Ogden I have gone away from controlling trains with smart hand on a small device. I predominately use it to access by switchboards remotely. If detection is set up properly the trains will follow the the blocks on the screen around

This is very interesting. Do you have any idea how practical that operating SmartHand Mobile over the internet is to allow multi-operator sessions with operators in remote locations?

James Petts thAt is a great question I have never given this any thought. I’m always open for suggestions

@@ModelRailroadTechniques I have had confirmation on the Freiwald forum from the creator of the program itself that this can be done and has been tested.

That’s awesome. Now thinking how I would do this. Hmmmmm

@@ModelRailroadTechniques Perhaps the remote operators could have TrainController in one window and Zoom in another with a webcam view of your layout?

James Petts could be a fun way to operate once you configure the hardware correctly
