Emmeet seems to just have the best spirit. I hope that in 2024 my name can ring enough bells so that I can sing in that space. Such a great vibe.. Ekep is one of my favs of the newbies. She wrote something on an Afro Blue CD (HU!) that absolutely tears me up each time I hear it. That trumpet solo was so good, too. I also loved how the drummer responded, esp in the trumpet solo. So good.
Another stellar presentation of the gist of blues and jazz. The vocalist-a is phenomenal. Lots of growling, screaming, great chest sound and high registers, and other creative uses of the voice to make her vision come alive. Star quality. Very authentic and full of impact. Nice tongue work on trumpet. Really into it. The music just takes you over. Emmet's smile tells more than any words. Everyone pushes the envelope. Unrestrained. Great. One to take on the road.
With all that breathtaking potential and fascinating elements, there is one crucial difference between this young ensemble and the Messengers with Golson, Timmons, Morgan, Blakey or the Lambert, Hendricks, Ross vocal version: understatement. They never derailed, they always kept a reserve and thus they rendered the magnificent composition more aptly.
What a brilliant performance!! UA-cam brought me here from the following version of Moanin': ua-cam.com/video/hxYRIQD9qlg/v-deo.html Another great rendition by a Japanese band!!
@@QuadriviumNumbers That's wild to say bc it implies Nigerians can't have a jazz inflecton? She def has range. She is really a good jazz singer. This is just her interpretation of this song. She sounds like an early blues here singer to me at times. It's evident she sings more than jazz, and lots of the jazz singers & players do more than one thing well. I really like her singing ballads, but this is something she enjoys singing, and her interpretation seems to move people which is what music is about.
absolutely loved shaq on the drums
😂
😂
My thoughts throughout this:
She betta sing!!
Tell the story then!!
She been in somebody's church! She's churchy!
I love it!
Well done everybody!

Moanin is one of my favorite standards. I've never heard such an extraordinary version!!! Thank you all for your music.

What a hot and soul-filled rendition of this hard bop classic blues. Love everything about this…
Bold musicianship and the lady out front is full throated and rich sounding. Thanks to all!
💙
Trumpet solo was built up from the ground !!! Perfectly done. E.C. and company always the best.
That vocal part at 1:06 was really cool
yodeling the blues 😂
Absolutely extraordinary! As always, EC3+ renditions of classics honour the original while reinvigorating the style.
I felt the troubles of what this song really means. Excellent performance.
I discovered your channel via Adam Neely and I am very happy I did. Damn!
Stank faces all around!! Well done.
Thats a voice from another world!! stunning.. Nice work Ekep Nkwelle!
CRAZY jazz blues voice! What a power!🎹💜
Ekep Nkwelle: Einfach grossartig!
OMG Ekep's voice kills me.
It's the first time I have ever heard Moanin'... shouted! In this music intonation and tuning are extremely important. Just think Veronica Swift.

With no disrespect to this singer, I would love to see you invite Cecile McLorin Salvant.
Can someone explain how he did the thing at 2:43?
He’s flutter tonguing
@@williamkroner1199 I thought so its just that I’ve never heard a flutter sound like that and I wanted to learn how to get that exact sound

She's Nigerian
That explains a lot. She doesn't have a Jazz inflection!
She's Cameroonian.
