"Test the spirits," and trust in truth within, illustrated by examples. The details and anecdotes are pertinent, revealing, and often enjoyable. I think a devil would more likely spit out a quick cheap shot than to speak in detail, pretending moral and intellectual superiority, thereby expecting potential listeners to be discouraged or else pre-influenced in ability to absorb the lecture.
