- Probably the best known song performed by the Skatalites, released in the U.K in 1967, however first recorded some years earlier in a Kingston studio. The Skatalites are an early ska band best known for their collaborations & session work with other ska artists such as Prince Buster, Laurel Aitken & Lee 'Scratch' Perry.
This tune is put to a ride to Boxhill, Surrey in April 2011 with the V.S.S.C (Virgin Soldier SC). A scooter club from SW of London, England. in memory of, a dear friend, scooterist, fellow soldier & all round top geezer, Kevin Reardan. R.I.P Kev. Gone but never forgotten.
LYRICS
In the winter of nineteen sixty and four came this movie to jamaica
The skatalites took the music from the movie and put it into ska
And came up with this song, it's called:
Bam guns of navarone
This song proved to be the only charting single for the Skatalites in the UK, peaking at Number 36.
Awesome stuff loving the video and music
Love watching a scooter run through kent. Never seen so many broken down Vespas in my life !
I used to play this in the disco on the Isle of Wight.

Yeh, my apologies looshkin83 I probably came upon this vid when searching on 'Mods' and then jumped a bit prematurely. Good music good times..!
top vid and tunes...nothing beats the sight of a mass of scooters
With Roland Alphonso on tenor sax
we danced to this, at the all nighters, in wigan, in 67.
This was sampled in CLAP YOUR HANDS by LITTLE SHAWN
Proper scooters
nice video
Some of those boys dwarf those poor scooters.
Some of them northern lads certainly ate their porridge when they were younger
fooking great sound and vid cheers
accustic coffee!
Little bit harsh mate, I would read the description.
2022💪🇷🇸

@@bacardy1964 I v never understood the attraction, symbolism, statement and the attachment to Mod era 🤷♂️
Mod era & scooters was a very fleeting fashion around the mid 60s lasting no more 3 years at its hight. Later on in the later 60s, early to mid 70s scooters were adopted by the spin off fashions from the mods. Those being soul boy, suede head & skinhead. Most skinheads cut these down or stripped them to what was described as skelly or skeleton scooters.
This song really takes me back really proud to be English xxx
Stolen music from black culture
What does you being English have anything to do with this song?
The band were from Jamaica
Please don't show a load of wankers on scooters simulating mods of the 60's going with ska dressed like that... ... I did box hill in the 60's and Brighton and the Ram Jam in Brixton and it sure wasn't like that!
