Nice guys. You took me back to my mother's kitchen where we as kids were watching our mum backing apple pie and meat pies the same way you were doing. Once in a while, she allowed us to bake our own apple pie. The warning "put your pinafore on first" still sounds across the ages. For you maybe not so extraordinary, but now I am a 69-year-old Dutchman who still bakes pies like my (English) mother taught me and I love to see my kids and grandchildren enjoy them.

Eating a Holland's meat and potato pie..now called a potato and meat pie, it takes me back 33 years ago when I lived "up north". Nothing beats it then, and now. Drowned in Lea and Perrin's sauce, it's my ultimate comfort blanket 👍👍😃

When I was a commis waiter at the Granby Hotel in Harrogate, Mr Walter Holland of pie fame used to come to dinner in the grill room. He was a nice man. When our Catholic seminary needed re-roofing he gave a generous donation. I don't think he was a Catholic either.

Hollands pies used to be gray inside. As a kid in Swinton in the 60's I used to go to the "chippy" once in a while for our dinner. I had to get chips and peas at the "chippy" then go 2 doors down to the bakery that made "real" meat and potato pies because the "chippy" only had Hollands pies.

Me again! Fabulous - Mums favourite for us and definitely a Yorkshire favourite in our Family. Thanks Keef, this is going to be one of our next creations. Mum was a C&G Diploma cook and I still have her knives which she worked hard for and saved for from Peter Maturis in Leeds. ✅

Thanks for making the Meat and Potato Pies, they're on next week's menu. Ah! good old mushy peas, I remember my Grandmar, Mam and Mother-in-Law soaking the dried marrowfat peas overnight, along with the tablet included in the packet, before cooking. A lot of messing about granted, but what a taste, yummy!

As a Lancashire lad (living in NZ for past 45 years) Hollands pies are still in my memory.I think they included onions which were always a bit undercooked and bitter. However, NZ mass produced pies are totally crap. Best option here is a bakery shop (usually owned by Cambodians) . They do what is called Potato Top, which is really cottage pie.

As a lad, living in Aslindon Lancashire in the mid 60's. The meat pies they used to bake in the local bakeries were something I will remember for the rest of my days.
And have never been replicated since.

When I was in Stoke on Trent where I was born...my parents and I lived at Trentham and used to go to Longton Market to buy meat and potato pies...best I have ever had and we bought them regularly. We moved to Cornwall in 1969 and bought some Cornish pasties...Oh my, were they delicious or what!!!😋😋 Your pies look delicious, now they are definitely a beautiful pie... remind me of pasties a little but no swede in them but could make them into pasty pies adding swede..yaay!!! Quick Lancashire Granny's tip: if you've not got time to flour and brown off your meat, simply add a level teaspoon of Black Treacle to give that caramelized flavour to your pie gravy.

When I were a lad in the 60's I did my time as a Butcher and we made 'Hand Raised' Pork Pie's. The hot water pastry
was weighed out but always left overnight and moulded nicely around the 'Doofa' (If there is a proper name for the
wooden former we used I never knew; it nor did my Boss who had used one all his life!) Needless to say the pies were
delicious. Now; after many years, I am inspired to put on my 'pie head' and have a bash at baking again. Thanks Matey.

Stoke On Trent oatcakes. Try it with a variety of fillings: bacon rashers, tomatoes, melted cheese, sausage, etc.

According to several Stokies who've watched my video, mine are no good. But here it is anyway and please don't ask me to do it again. ua-cam.com/video/-V8Zxce6wGU/v-deo.html

Nice. Does the Mrs. have a channel that I can check out while you're muttering around in the kitchen?

She used to have a poetry channel, but it's been neglected for a few years - don't know if it's still active.

It's hard to monetize poetry, unless it's hip hop.

As, I think, others have said the Holland’s pie nowadays is not a patch on those of 30 or 40 years ago. Even then they were the ‘standard’ mass produced pie you would get at the chippie if you wanted something other than fish and chips. Many bakers in Lancashire tended to do their own meat and tatie pies, which while variable were often very tasty. On the subject of fish and chip shops the Holland’s steak and kidney pudding was something of a staple in Lancastrian chip shops, something that I haven’t seen elsewhere and a great favourite of mine. Sadly like the meat and potato pies the Holland’s version has declined significantly in both amount and flavour of filling.
