What a special and unique place The Getty is! Thank you for sharing these things with the world. I was fortunate enough to be able to spend a day there earlier this year. My jaw was agape the whole time, and I almost wept at the antiquities that are there! I wish I lived in Los Angeles rather than Florida. If I did, the Getty would be my second home.
That is firstly, a piece of art. Second. Still a piece of art. You would need another microscope to study and identify that this is indeed, a microscope. Thats amazing.
Thank you for that video. I use a microscope every day at work. My current microscope isn't as refined as that one. It is remarkable. And. A flea that's 200 years old. It makes you wonder if anything has changed in terms of their structure or adaptive features since fleas were targeted by mankind.
What a stunning instrument. To think every single piece was hand-made and hand-assembled. I'm always curious of the provenance of these things. To have it so perfectly preserved and all the extra items included - I wonder if it went from the first owner directly to a museum.
I believe that mankind will never stop worshiping the ornate. But mankind tends to have neuroses which make them forget for a while the truthfulness of round form. We try to hide our humanity for the sake of expediency. We often hail the straight line distance as the shortest route. But it never works. For, straight lines, in mathematics are deceptively simple. Roundness is complex, deep, Rich! And roundness is more complex, mathematically! The modern world is full of "*-+:?!s who would tell you to "keep it simple". But, I believe that that is short-sighted, no matter how brutally efficient. No! The world needs art! The world needs beauty! Humanity must be allowed to be human! (And we SHALL, of course!)

This makes me think of Nathaniel Bagshaw Ward's "Microscopical Parties" in mid-19th century London. Absolutely stunning!
Nice.
Humanity died when it stopped worshipping the ornate
