3 The Reason I Left Flyleaf

  • There is a reason you exist . . .
The day Lacey Sturm planned to kill herself was the day her old life ended. As an atheist who hated Christians, she thought church was a place for hypocrites, fakers, and simpletons. After a screaming match with her grandmother, she ended up in the back of a sanctuary, hating everyone in the room. But what happened in that room is The Reason she is alive today.
With raw vulnerability, this hard rock princess tells her story of physical abuse, depression, suicidal struggles, and more--and her ultimate salvation. She asks the hard questions--Why am I here? Why am I empty? Why should I go on living?--showing that beyond the temporary highs and the soul-crushing lows is a reason each of us exists and a purpose for our lives.

As a non-native english speaker it's truly hard for me to get all the message she tried to give. Plus, why can't I dream Lacey as a respectable singer, mother and human ? I bet I can imagine Lacey as her songs describe her in my mind. Is it a sin to believe she is also human ?

Brad Woods Perhaps u didn't listen to her confession very carefully she said 'after making the momento mori album it taught her to realize how short life is...and when there audio producer died and it weighed heavily on her heart she looked at her son and remembered how is she gonna spend it with him or even if that 1 minute could be the last for her son'. Now let me ask you how can she look at her son if she was pregnant? Let me help you its bec her son was born when she looked at him not when she was pregnant. You got your shit all wrong man.

Flyleaf, Avril Lavigne, Evanescense and Paramore and more saved me when i was a teenager, i was going through a rough patch and their songs, made me feel like i wasn't alone. So i hope they know they have accomplished things and they have saved lives.

To be fair, her singing voice is also pretty soft a lot of the time. She just has more than one gear. Just listen to "All Around Me", for example. The chorus is pretty powerful but the verses are quite soft and don't sound remotely surprising compared to her speaking voice.

when She left Flyleaf a little piece of my heart broke because they were my favorite band and she was and is such an inspiration to me but knowing that she did it because she wanted to place being a wife and mother as the biggest priority in her gives me an even deeper respect for then I already had.

It's inspiring, too, I think. When I first became a Flyleaf fan around fifteen, and I found out they were Christian, I thought her life was this perfect gift from God because she was in this awesome band, getting popular, having success by the world's standards, all that. But, when she left, I think she proved that she has her own version of success in life - a set of priorities that I hadn't considered in my own life. I don't have a kid or anything, but I can get caught up in myself and my own life, and hearing why she left made me think about what kind of daughter I was being, what kind of sister, girlfriend, it made me think about what good I was doing for the people around me, and it made me want to try a little harder for them.

Tracey Stanford that was an awesome response. It was really mature to look around at your life and what kind of person you were being and trying harder for the ones that you love. I'm an old mom, lol.... but I really respected what you wrote. I was affected by artists and music when I was your age. Music is like therapy. It can really help center you and make you re examine your life and dreams. Take care!

Edit: Just checked, but nope- just past the mark. But that could mean she was in a previous life or something. That'd make that "duality" of her singing voices really make sense too.
I wish more bands did official covers of "I'm So Sick" though. I saw a tribute band that played it out really well- but why not a rendition for another popular band? Idk, enough waffling. Lol

I never understood the "need" to argue or debate about religion, for it's a personal belief, not science. Another thing I noticed is 99% of the people that start the arguments are internet "atheists", but they really just hate God, but won't admit to it. They call us delusional, narrow minded, etc...and I simply say back: "You reject any and all ideas about God on a whim, with no "critical" thinking or an open mind. That's being narrow minded. But believe anything Dawkins or Hitches says without question." It stumps them. They come back with "u hve no prufs 4 gawd"
"I don't need to prove anything to you but google "Dead Sea Scrolls", Roman documents on Jesus Christus, diary entries of Piliate and Nero...etc"
And the personal attacks and atheist tantrum continues and I hit "block". I have people I can talk to and possibly have someone saved by the salvation of Jesus.

Agreed! All except the religion part. True Christianity isn't a religion, It's a relationship with Christ. Religion is man made lies used to keep evil people in power. A relationship with Christ (the one who made us) is beautiful and real. Until people realize this they will continue to be lost. I'm not singling you out, Jocelyn. I'm just ranting about people/God in general.

I can't have babies I have an illness of my uterus that would kill me and any potential baby inside. I wanted a big family but even if I had just one I wouldn't leave my kid for the sake of a band my kid would be first even the kittens I got as a teen I spent so much time taking care of them and if they didn't die a few years ago they would still be so important to me
People who make jokes at Lacey Sturms expense are so ignorant. I wanted to adopt kids but my own life path gas included a lot of beer death illness plus with my brain damage and sexual abuse traumas I probably couldn't get anyone to let me adopt. So I will never have a family and some day it stinks I want to cry and other days I am thankful I don't have to fear how they will be safe in this crazy modern world I think if I had a family now I'd be more concerned giving them a healthy safe environment instead of leaving them alone constantly to live my life rocker life. God bless her and her family some of her must was my only companion as I was struggling to get past about her bout if this diseases except the most recent episode turned into over a month clinging to live in the ICU so I will be thankful for her music but never would I expect her to choice her band. The core of her music is the same whether it's from a studio a closer to her house or on the road the music doesn't change the powerful music she writes

+Gabby Garcia It's not that they're not nice people or bad by their nature... it's that... in order to believe in an intergalactic space monster named Yahweh, and be engaged in, and, be a part of, one of his cults(Judaism, Christianity, Islam), you must, by necessity, be divorced from your critical thinking skills.
It's impossible to be a conscious person engaged in reality and believe the most blatant non sense, based on literally zero evidence, ever conceived of by man. Which, in and of itself... is fine... but the problem is... we live in a society... and these people who are now functionally mentally impaired get to vote... and make social decisions in communities that affect everyone based on a fundamentally flawed set of beliefs.
At the end of the day beliefs matter, and bad or wrong ones, especially ones that are bald faced lies, not AT ALL based in fact, like ALL religions, are dangerous in many ways, from the minute to the extreme.

    • @jinfps7712

+Tetrahedragon2 But if you believe that we came from apes and that a POSSIBLE scientific theory could be that Earth came from NOTHING, you suddenly think you're above everyone that believes in some type of religion. It takes quite a bit of faith to believe in the Big Bang, Darwinism, etc. when you have no solid proof that any of those things are concrete 100% fact. Listen bro, I'm not trying to be hostile but I truly believe that even scientists walk by faith and not by sight in their own beliefs about how the world came to be and how it changed over the course of time. If someone is religious, it does not mean, AT ALL, that they are divorced from their critical thinking skills. I encourage you to watch or listen to Ravi Zacharias, I think he has a pretty good argument for your belief. Check out "Science Evolution Ravi Zacharias and not Richard Dawkins" (Weird title, I know) or my favorite "The Incoherence of Atheism Ravi Zacharias". Please please please check em out man. Much love

    • @matthewk3981
      @matthewk3981 8 років тому +10

+hustinjue the theory of evolution doesn't teach that we came from apes, it shows that Homo sapiens and apes share a common ancestor. Why are people always getting this wrong, did they not pay attention in life science class?
The evolution of the earth and the universe at large as shown in our history model is just that, a model. It is a work in progress, and the evidence to support the logistics of said model is massively abundant and overwhelming at times. I agree that belief in our current "working model" of history requires faith. Any explanation for reality does. However, there is clear evidence everywhere we look that substantiates a faith in things like gravity, time, electrons, cellular mitosis, natural selection, etc. while at the same time there is zero evidence that Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, or Leprechans are real.

You dont have to be baptized, its more of a public display of faith. You make a great point that a christian should show they are christian by how the live. Jesus said he is the way to the Father (God), you can believe in God or Gods without being christian, but faith in Jesus has proved existence of a One True God for the last 2000 years, with healing miracles, excorsims etc. God loves you so much :)

Those are two very separate thoughts. I have no problem with Lacey leaving for the reasons she did. However, she had an incredibly unique voice, and her passion was unmistakable. While I fully admit my experiences with the new singer are through camera phone videos on youtube and my jury is still out, she seems to have something of an average, generic voice. I can't help but feel that she's stepping into shoes she can't quite fill out, and if that's the case, fans feeling upset about a downgrade in their band isn't unreasonable.

Bands like Linkin Park, POD, Slipknot and Flyleaf helped me living through some really dark times and saved me from taking my life.. Today I'd overcome the most of my past and when I listen to the songs of these bands it's like remembering feelings that are luckily far away now. I'm so happy seeing Lacey has also done some personal development which has caused her to quit with Flyleaf. Their songs were so authentic because they also lived through some harsh times and as much as I appreciate this I wouldn't have liked to see Lacey staying stuck in this forever, singing about these things. Plain and simple! When you become a mother, if you are any type of a Mother, you put your children first. She had 10 amazing years with Fly Leaf and now she has another calling. The Lord put it up on her heart to stay at home and tour less. To be their for her now two sons. Their is nothing wrong with that. She did not have a good life growing up and she doesn't want her kids having the type of life that she had. I applaud her. This won't be the last we hear from her. God is not done with her yet. She's just putting that hectic career on hold for a while. When they get older she may go back to it. Enough said.

I don't see anything wrong with a person who can afford to really devote herself to her family choosing to do so. It would be awful if instead she had decided to allow greed to take her away from her baby.

"Christians" don't pass legislature, Lawmakers do. Legislature usually Is based on popular vote, When gay marriage or abortion Is banned It's not because some Christians decided to ban It...It's because the majority of the people In a particular state voted to ban It. A whole lot more people than just Christians vote.
