  • Hitting that first big milestone is an awesome feeling, and Adam is well on the way to the next. What Adam wants us to do is talk about how we approach a lock we haven't picked before, what is our process. Adam participants in the community through watching your videos, commenting, and joining in on picking time live streams. Adam is new to locksport, so head on over and check them out, help them celebrate this cool milestone.
    I am using a new phone camera, so if you have any advice about this new camera please leave a comment, cheers

    Thank you for those kind words PW! I really appreciate that! I love this community! It's the greatest place to be!! Always a good idea to check the specs first if you can! It is a lovely color indeed! lol, great closeup! Great advice on using the key, if possible, to determine what pick to use. I like this method especially if you are not a blind picker. It's great advice for newer pickers as well! Love your method of selecting and checking the tensioner! I too start out with light tension and work my way up as needed, I find that works best for me. Switching hooks is great, especially if starting with something really short and not knowing the bitting! I did not have the tools needed to do this when I first started picking, I had 1 very short homemade hook through the entire pick which made some very difficult and others impossible! I hate pin 1 with tok sometimes!! Thanks again for this wonderful entry PW!! Your entry is noted and added to the playlist! I think this video using the phone your on now is quite good!

      One thing I did forget to mention is that I approach a used lock a bit differently at the start. On a padlock I will first see if there is shackle movement be depressing the shackle and if I can move the core slightly back and forward with the tensioner. I will then rake the pins to see if they are free moving. Then I will start my automatic picking process. So I should of mentioned that there is a slight difference in my process depending if the lock is new like this one or an old used one. A big congratulations mate and the words I spoke were true talk and my pleasure to say. Cheers

      @@PocketWomen That is very good advice as well! Those added steps for a used lock can tell you a whole lot about what's going inside the lock! knowing those things is very important for a used lock! You may have to put some care into the lock before you can even pick it! Thank you for this added bonus PW!! I do appreciate everything you do, so much! You're great!! Cheers

    Addressing core control is my biggest flaw. Having complete control makes for such a better experience. Great colour lock, by the way. Love it.

    • @PocketWomen
      @PocketWomen  3 місяці тому

      Yes especially when you are trying to pick things like gin spools that require float picking. Absolute control of the core is needed, this is why i end up with so many tension wrenches, I make them to suit the lock to give me that control. Thanks for watching and commenting, cheers

    Nice choice there. The ABUS 72/40 is a great lock and many newcomers have problems getting it open for their first time.
    I like the detailed description of the your methods. If i forget how to pick locks, I'll definitely look this video up again to get a good reminder 👍

      Thanks very much for saying that, these Abus 72's are a fun pick once you get the hang of those tiny spools. Have a great weekend, cheers

      Thanks mate, this is one of my favourite locks and I recently got it back after it had been lent out to a new picker in a kit that I put together for them. I hadn't seen it in a couple of years. Now I have lent the kit out to another newbee and changed the locks to different ones. So happy to see this burnt orange Abus again. Cheers

      Thanks for the comment mate. For some reason it has only filmed with mono sound not stereo. I will be getting some help next week so that I can get all the setting correct on this phone. It is such a learning curve, didn't realize there would be such a difference between phone brands. Have a happy picking weekend, cheers
