7/10
Y'all know this is just my opinion, right?
Anthony tries to present himself as some sort of professional music critic, but from his short meme bursts, it appears that, deep down inside, his favourite album is Pink Guy.
You're going to be a really weird old man, Anthony.
+A. Mostert Better than an average old fart :D
wait, does he age? i've got a melon lying in my basement from over 5 years ago and it still looks fantano.
Bowie is gone
Reed is gone
Iggy please stick around for a while
*Iggy:* _"No, fuck you."_
_~dies~_
+Gasai Yuno XD
***** I hope I haven't jinxed it.
Reed is bad
your bad
Lou Reed expresses his love for Kanye's music - Dies 2 months later
Bowie Expresses his love for Kendricks music- Dies 2 months later
I'm sensing a pattern, lets just hope Iggy Pop doesn't say he's bumpin that new Drake mixtape in the whip or we might lose another glam rock god in a couple months.
+This Dick Aint Free glam rock god? Idk about glam rock, more like the godfather of punk
krisildur1 Yeah I definitely see what your saying, I just said that because a lot of punks forefathers also also dabbled in Glam Rock or at least Glam rock culture weather it be Iggy, Lou Reed, The New York Dolls etc.
+This Dick Aint Free Yeah, sure. I just think it's weird to call him "glam rock god" since he isn't really famous for glam rock.
+krisildur1 except he is, him and Lou inspired the quintessential glam rock album "the Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars" you might of heard of it? If not should definitely check it out.
+MrFunkadellica I was talking about his music, not what he happened to inspire in the future.
Remember when, a few years ago, everyone was talking about how great Random Access Memories was? How every single song on the album was interesting and brought something new and different to the album as a whole and made it that much more of a layered, varied experience?
That's how I feel about this album. I fucking love it.
ItsSomeDeadGuy that's because josh homme is a fucking beast
Josh Homme never disappoints with his side projects - this, Them Crooked Vultures, Sound City Reel to Reel...
Desert sessions too
Agreed
Post Pop Depression got it's title from Iggy leaving the studio/living space the band had shared while recording the album, the other three members (dean, josh and matt) really missed the guy hence the title. I'm sure they all got super close considering iggy's the fucking man so the title makes total sense.
Josh said that he decided to title record Post Pop Depression because after they were done recording the record, the rest of the guys were a little bummed out and depressed after Iggy left.
I thought dean named post pop depression
Ella Luera he did
It was Dean who said iy
Lou Reed: 1942-2013
David Bowie: 1947-2016
Iggy Pop: 1947-NEVER!!!
+sifat shams He's gonna be 300 years old and still releasing new music.
His skin says otherwise
This makes no sense
There's static in the background and it's kind of annoying
his audio has been pretty bad recently
wah
Maybe intentional to sound like a vinyl
+LGxCP I dont really mind it . But it is a thing
+Anatomy Of Melancholy really? i didn't know a thing could be a thing
Does Cal often get Iggy Pop confused with Iggy Azalea, my dude?
How can it be pap... if it's rack? Makes no sense!
my fave song in this album is the one where Iggy sings about his long lost favorite T-shirt and his longing for it & how he continues to go shirtless until he reunites with it ,song "It-T" very good song

DAMNTHONY DANTANO HERE
This album's title, Post-Pop Depression, as well as the overall vibe of it, reflects the deep personal sadness I've been feeling, possibly brought on by the death of David Bowie. Ever since I've been old enough to be aware of music, I've had an utter obsession with the late 60s and early 70s. Seeing how I'm 25, obviously I never actually got to experience this era of music but it's only recently hitting me that this music that I've essentially dedicated half of my life to is only getting more and more distant and all of my idols who aren't already dead are dying or going to retirement. It just makes me so sad that I'll never get to see any of these legends in their prime as the rock era fades into history.
+Brian Bernhardt You might not get to personally see many of these legends but for them and for you, you still have the music. The music doesn't die.
As for the rock era fading into history I might disagree just a bit with that. Though you love the music of this era, there are still amazing contemporary bands, right now, everywhere in both the US and the rest of the world that are making as good of music as your heroes. I was frustrated too about 5 years ago about the lack of new rock music that got me excited or spoke to me. I started digging. At first I couldn't find it. But now that I do know my way around bandcamp and soundcloud, the music is just as good and some is even better. There is so much great rock music in the US that it's hard to keep up. It's just not getting exposed. Don't give up...It's out there! Find new heroes and share with everyone that will listen!!!
+Hunter MacLeod what would you say are the best/ most recommendable(?) bands you've find?
All Them Witches, Dead Sara, The Black Cadillacs, Ayron Jones and the Way, Walking Papers, Staticland, Ex's With Benefits, Crass Mammoth, Reignwolf (amazing!!!), 20 Watt Tombstone, The Last Year, Sturgill Simpson, American Aquarium, The Breton Sound, Black Tar Heroines. That just a few that I've found.
Hunter MacLeod I listen to a lot of new stuff, I know most of those bands. It's more about no one appreciates rock music anymore, it will inevitably die out in the mainstream and become a niche genre like jazz.
+Brian Bernhardt For a long time I thought that too. The thing is, if rock was going to become a niche genre like you suggest, a lot of companies that sell the instruments associated with rock music would be going out of business, a lot of venues that cater to these bands, the music of many of these artists wouldn't sell, etc. would just dry up. I work with a number of teenagers and you 20 somethings and I get asked all the time, "Who was that you were listening to. What song is that? What are some bands I should listen to?",all the the time. There's something about a loud guitar combined with teenage angst that seems to connect. Scenes always change, but rock will always connect.
But ultimately, you may be right...*sigh* You never know for sure.
In "Paraguay" he is not ranting about technology but about the culture of fear stablished these days, and the Information or knowing too much as the source of that fear.
Yea, pretty much. The melon didn't get it ;-;
To me it sounded as if you put "The Idiot" and "Rated R" in a blender but in a good way, like "hey I like this".
Anthony!!!! thx for making reviews I thought I ran out of things to watch on UA-cam but then I found you and now I'm no longer bored or whatever
This album was far better than I expected, its almost up there with his albums "The Idiot" and "Lust For Life"
just saw him perform many tracks off the new record at SXSW, and he was top notch. the band was tight, the performance riveting, and the show engaging.
I kinda feel like Post Pop Depression is a Joshua Homme solo album + band of friends & he got Iggy singing every song & writing all the lyrics.
I'm on the fence as to whether or not this is a bad thing.
The same thing can be said about The Idiot, it's basically a Bowie's record with Iggy singing.
As many have noted, Iggy Pop's best stuff has resulted out of thriving under this songwriting format. For better or for worst most of his best solo stuff isn't "his" music. But he does inject his personality into the lyrics, themes, and it of course permeates the very identity of the records.
Thee Ol' Boozeroony I kind of feel like abbey road is a John Lennon solo album except Ringo wrote the drums Paul wrote some songs and all the bass parts and George wrote lead guitar.
Thee Ol' Boozeroony being able to interpret and present a song is a perfectly valid art form. Elvis did it, among others. He also wrote the lyrics, as you said.
Wow, I loved your cover of Lincoln Park's "Crawling", Andy!!!!!! You are very talented!!!! I would love to hear a full length cover!!!!!
Review Into It, Over It - Standards
and also Violent Soho - WACO
Check out the lyrics to Paraguay a little further, it's actually pretty brilliant.
Ya gotta check out Underworld, Anthony!
Good review, though I disagree with your opinion on "Paraguay" ( one of my favorites along with Gardenia and Chocolate Drops).
Nice review buddy. Gonna have to give it a few more listens.
Hey John good to see you here peace and good wishes
Me encanta lo que haces, llevo varios vídeos visto y me gusta el análisis que haces. Me gustaría saber si...¿alguna ocasión te ha dado curiosidad de reseñar una canción, solo un tema?
Dean came up with the name...it's the feeling that they felt once the recording with Iggy (only took 2 weeks). But, it could also be largely be referring to both of the themes you picked up on. I really love this album, pretty much from open to close.
You should review "Everything You've Come to Expect" by The Last Shadow Puppets when it comes out next month.
Pain
it blows my mind that Iggy outlived Bowie
+jaketaz Cancer works in mysterious ways.
Jesus, I didn't know there were others who look as deep into an album as I do. Very similar findings about the record, with a few differences, as it should be. Looking foward to viewing other reviews.
Baauer - Aa
Violent Soho - WACO
Wax Witches - Memory Painting
Koi Child - Koi Child
Review them all plz Captain Memeheart
Every Loser deserved a review. Iggy's best work in a while, it's incredible front to back. Wish more people were talking about it.
I DON'T WANT ALL THIS INFORMATION
AAAGGGGHHH
Anthony, when you use the word "compressed" do you mean like well-trimmed and edited down to just the concise good stuff? or is it a music production term that has something to do with its sonic quality?
Have you ever made a video on what kind of playback system you listen to your music on for reviews? If not, that would be an interesting video
Great review!
Oh and i would love to hear your thoughts on Ed Motta's new album "Perpetual Gateways". Think you might enjoy it
I love Iggy Pop..over the years he has always remained relevant...and am enjoying the 4 tracks that have been released & have the rest on pre-order ...so far it mixes well in a playlist with the new Bowie ...thanks for giving it a decent review
Wish Lou Reed could've had a great send off record
He was in "Some Kind of Nature" right before he died which is good enough for me.
+Michael Ford Someone should have suggested him not to waste time with the metallica
+Michael Ford Someone should have suggested him not to waste time with the metallica
+Michael Ford Lulu wasn't bad
TheKevlar4 horrible IMO. A horrible legacy for him. Blackstar on the other hand...
I love this album so much. I didn't think I was going to enjoy it, but Iggy's growling voice really brings this mood into the album.
hey Angerny Musictano, what are we thinkin about a possible Plebeian Grandstand review? Thanks big guy, keep it stanky
Enjoyed most of the album as well, is it me only that notices a certain resemblance with the last melody of Sunday with Kiss's I was meant for loving you?
ANTWON, REVIEW THE NEW KOI CHILD LP
Best teeth in the game btw, proud of you, keep it up
Review Obsidian Kingdom's new album A Year With No Summer. An interesting mix of noise rock, post-rock, and a tiny bit of black metal.
I don't often comment anymore to say I agree, 'cuz what's the point, but you really nailed it Anthony.
Can you do a track review of Joey Bada$$' new song "Brooklyn's Own" ?
I think you're wrong about Paraguay mate. Best song on the album.
You really should review the album Evangelist by Evangelist. As a major fan of UNKLE and Gavin Clark, it was my favorite album of 2015
FANTANO
Can you review the Dog Chocolate album that comes out tomorrow? I'm looking forward to it and I think you might like it. Plus, it's a band that deserves some exposure
Did anyone else noticed The Smiths - How soon is now in Gardinia ? Love it
Kendrick Lamar: "ur a wizard, Harry..."
Anthony Fantano: "light to decent 9"
Post Pop Depression is a feeling that Josh got after their tour ended. I know this because I went to the Q&A and album behind the scenes film on Post Pop Depression.
Fantano can you call AT&T and tell them to keep Univision on the lineup. I need to be able to watch my novelas. Thanks.
Signed,
Me
Coincido casi totalmente, pero el último track, "Paraguay"...es uno de los mejores del álbum. ¿Opiniones? Pueden ver mi review completo en mi canal de UA-cam
Anthony you need to review iggy’s new album man!
Surprised we haven’t had a review of the latest Iggy Pop album yet?
In a UK interview yesterday, Iggy said the title came from a text from Dean to Josh after the recording of the album saying 'man, I want to be back in the studio, I have post pop depression'. So, maybe not as deep as some think.
Anthony, review the new album from this Brazilian band called Baleia. It's an art rock, chamber pop act.
Interesting to hear a negative opinion on the closing track. I personally think the rant in 'Paraguay' is a pretty damn fitting way for Iggy to (seemingly) bow out.
Review suggestion:
Skizzy Mars Together Alone
It's a strong 8 for me. Every song works really well in my opinion. The vocals, instrumentation and songwriting is top notch - one of my favorite 2016 releases
You should review the new Those Poor Bastards album.
Hey Needle Drop, please review Beautiful Lies by Birdy when it comes out March 25th, alright man, okay?
pretty much spot on review, I'd say it's a strong 7, maybe after more listens, even a light 8, but of course this is coming from a huge Homme fan :P
Great album, really enjoyed it, not his best but it's nice to hear some new Iggy.
Agree with the QotSA comparisons, probably a little much. Still one of my favorite albums to listen to recently, i felt all the songs were great, just again maybe musically redundant, 7-8 fer me, review next uhhhh idk
Have you given El Guincho's Hiperasia a listen yet Anthony?
Can you do a review of Domo Genesis new album titled "Genesis"??? Please
Can I have that Kraftwerk vinyl you got there?
hey, plzzzzz review kanye's old albums plzzz i would really want to know ur opinoins on albums like the college dropout and late registration
why no music is included in the needle drop videos? :((( (guess this quiestion's been asked a lot)
Anthony used to do it when he first started out and eventually started getting some copyright strikes and that sort of thing.
Even though his videos were protected under fair use he just decided not to fight the false claims and change his format to avoid said claims in the future.
Review the new Koi Child record (self titled). They're from Western Australia and the record is produced by Kevin Parker, check it out
Anthony please designate shirts that represent your feelings on the album
yellow flannel means pretty positive
wolf means crap, etc
The title comes from Josh Homme describing how he felt when the sessions were over - I read it in a magazine I found at a bus stop...
great review!
Not sure if I was beat here but Josh named it that from missing him so much once the record was over
Anthony. if you could review the new album (Atlas) of a Brazilian band called Baleia, I'll be happy ^^.....pleaaase??
Review Koi Child's new album and Baauer's new album!!!!!!!!

Gardenia gives me Bowie vibes, so much so that I thought it was a Next Day b-side when I heard it on the radio.
would you mind reviewing aurora's album ‘All My Demons Greeting Me As A Friend’? thanks :D
this album definitely has the Homme touch - lots borrowed from Them Crooked Vultures, more so than QOTSA, in my opinion !
A 3!? A FUCKING 3??? ARE YOU SERIOUS!?
ARGUMENTATIVE VIKING add 4 and you'll be more accurate
Why are you ignoring the new Zeelooperz? You gave the original a pretty good grade and Bothic does everything Help did but better. I don't get it :(
Did you actually review his previous album?
Well, now that Iggy has posted this review on Facebook you're going to get a few more looks (And of course comments) on this review. After The Stooges broke up, Iggy has throughout his career used musicians/artists on his solo albums that were *contemporary* at the moment to, in essence, bring in new sounds and remain vital and relevant.
Nearly being in oblivion, David Bowie revived Iggy's career, formed a friendship, and you could pretty much say saved Iggy's life! "China Girl" after all was penned by Iggy and was not about a woman but about heroin. The co-admiration and co-writing pretty much revived both of their careers at one point. (Bowie being more of a chameleon than Iggy though.) Iggy to this day is still relevant, still influential, and loves to point out the absurdity and poke the; vacuous, lowest common denominator of fan/human, and life itself.
If collaborating with Josh Homme puts him in the spotlight to get his observations out to the masses and influences just one or two people then so be it. After all that Iggy's been through in his life, it appears to me that he's finally gotten to the point that he's grateful to; be alive, still be relevant, and relatively 'happy'. Though he sees his contemporaries passing around him, perhaps he's just grateful to still be here, still standing, six feet above ground and breathing.
As for the parts you found disconcerting about his observations of technology (I believe you're complaining and you pointing out that he's cranky, weird, and out of touch.) yes every generation faces that and yes, you will also. Being a bit older than you, there has been a bit lost when it comes to human connection and interaction. And yes...You too will be complaining in time. It comes with age and experience as you will find out.
Invariably, I almost always disagree with some of your observations in your reviews. I unsubscribed due to you focusing too much on hip-hop and pop music. BUT...I do like checking out your takes on rock albums and will continue to watch your reviews. Keep on keeping on.
Holy shit, I asked for it and you did it, the absolute madman!
Hey Anthony, I feel like you should give Iron Maiden's Piece Of Mind album a listen. I'm not judgemental person. I respect everyone's opinion and yours too. I like watching your videos. Anyways you should give it a listen (:
