- Hello friends! In this video, we will be riding the Charlotte NC Train; which is also known as the Lynx Blue Line. I began at the I-485 station, and will take you to the CTC station; which is Uptown Charlotte. Charlotte does not have a downtown, so we call it Uptown rather.
The Lynx Blue Line is a light rail line in Charlotte, North Carolina. It goes The 19.3-mile line goes from its northern terminus at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in University City(North Charlotte) through NoDa(North Davidson), Uptown, and South End then paralleling South Boulevard to its southern terminus just north of Interstate 485(I-485) at the Pineville city limits.
There are 26 stations in the system, the light rail portion of which carries an average of over 29,900 passenger trips every day.
Lynx operates seven days a week. It runs from 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 6:15 a.m. to midnight Sunday. On weekdays, frequencies range from 10 minutes during rush hour periods to 20 minutes at night, with weekend daytime service running every 15 minutes on Saturdays and 20 minutes on Sundays, with night service 20-30 minutes.
Tickets for the Blue Line are purchased on the platform of all stations from self-serve ticket vending machines that accept cash, coins, debit, and credit cards.[71] Transfers from buses, weekly and monthly passes are also accepted. Fares, which are equal to those of the existing bus network, are as follows: $2.20 for a one-way trip, $4.40 for a round-trip ticket, $6.60 for a one-day pass with unlimited rides, $22 for a weekly pass, and $88 ($44 for seniors and ADA) for a monthly pass. There is no fare to kids below 6 with fare-paying rider.
The Blue Line is a part of The Charlotte Area Transit System or CATS for short. CATS NC is the agency responsible for public transportation in the Charlotte metropolitan area. CATS operates bus and rail transit services in Mecklenburg County and surrounding areas.

Charlotte seems to be very pleasent city to live in. Very organized and clean. The climate is a big plus.

This is a very good system for people living there for shopping and eating in the center of Charlotte.
Americans coming to Japan sometimes complain "We can not live without a car".
But I suppose you can live without it.
The system is very modern and clean. Fare is very reasonable too.

The Charlotte train only has one line in a basically straight direction. It cannot be used very practically

I love riding on that LYNX train. My first time in a very long time visiting Charlotte back in February 2018 for the CIAA tournament and I didn't even know Charlotte had a train system. It is clean and modern looking.

This is great, thanks so much for sharing! I plan to move from Boston, MA to Charlotte and likely will have to live without a car for the first few months I'm there. It's great to know I'll have the Lynx line while I settle into Charlotte and that I can use it as an alternative even when I do have a car!
Move to an area with a light rail station and other daily amenities (Southend, NODA, Optimist Park, Plaza Midwood, Uptown) as the city is sprawling, car dependent, and bus service is lacking in dependability.
I wouldn’t recommend that course of action- best wishes on your move and welcome to the Carolinas.

The midnight diner has moved to the bus depot off of trade st. Closer to city center. And I mean it’s moved, they lifted it up put it on a truck and moved it closer to the city, pretty crazy.

Planning on moving to Charlotte in the near future I'll be be riding the train when I move there. It kind of reminds me of the light rail in Norfolk, VA and Baltimore, MD and Washington DC. Nice video.

I have an internship in Charlotte which starts in June. How’s the diversity in Charlotte? I hear good things about the city’s growth and such, but I have yet to hear much about the diversity. 🤷🏿♂️
Charlotte is a very diverse city - black, white, latino, Indian, and much more. I happen to be white, but the high school in my neighborhood is 90% minority. In some parts of the city, you'll find the opposite. And most neighborhoods fall somewhere in between.

Question, if you take a lynx train, that ticket they give you, can you use it as a transfer for a shuttle bus? Another question, when you pay for shuttle bus and get a transfer ticket, beside the next bus, can you use it for the bus after that or is it a one time use ?
Does Charlotte plan on allowing the train to enter Charlotte Douglas International Airport? Great video. I can't believe they didn't make you wear a mask?
For now, there's an "Airport Sprinter" bus that runs a continuous loop from the transit center in the uptown business district to the airport. They're in the early planning stages now for future lines of the light rail and one of those will serve the airport.

I am surprised that Charlotte has a train. I have been hearing stories in the past few months about how bad the transportation system in the city
As a resident, it is a challenge to live here without a car. This particular line is an amenity for this section of town. We all are awaiting our train route construction to begin. I think success for European cities have come from the infrastructure being in place along with the planning of the road system, in conjunction with buses, early. We are playing catch-up here in the Queen city, and effectiveness will be questionable. We definitely need alternatives.

No. Only service animals (seeing eye dogs) are permitted on trains & buses.
