Serious narrowboat envy. Absolutely glorious visual footage. Truly beautiful. Has a really timeless feel about it all. Thank you for all the little details that enrich the blog.
Brings back nice memories for me too. The ornate bridges and tunnel entrances you mentioned, the canal and railway were all built and disguised into 'Sydney Gardens' a public open space at the end of Great Pulteney Street in Bath. The gardens are the only remaining eighteenth-century pleasure gardens in the country. They are Grade II listed.
Beautiful videography. And the spot where you turned around in Bath brought back happy memories of visiting there a few years ago. So much great architecture in Bath.
What a treat to see such a beautiful city from the water. Thanks too, for taking your time with the pan shots. So many other channels are like watching an episode of Daktari. (Showing my age.) Thanks for bringing us along for the ride.
So nice and peaceful as always. Lovely filming of your narrowboat cruising through Bath. I have been to Bath many times but it is the first time I see this beautiful city from the canals, this is a lovely change. Thank you.
Looks like you will have a nice time around Bath, I remember cycling through there many years ago on my way to Bournmouth, many beautiful buildings to look at, that was some lock, a bit scarey!, thanks for the ride
The view from the canal is so much more interesting than other cities. Brilliant, thanks for sharing it with us, look forward to more. I won't mention the low pound, I'll get growled at again.
Lovely vlog as usual, 2 of my daughter's lived in Bath for a while and one of their houses was in shot! I used to sit on the tow path watching the boats pass...thanks for the happy memories...
I have been watching your back catalogue, this is the last one to view. great vlog/music. could I suggest a name for your new narrow boat build? as CONTENTED, as you both seem that way with your life style, as I am now am with my N/B 'Misty J'.
I now have “The great outdoors” going through my head like an earworm. Lovely tune. Is it available to download? Thank you once again for a very relaxing vlog. Bath is very beautiful from the canal and you have a different view every day. You must be forever pinching yourselves. Take care and happy cruising.
Thanks Andy. Im sorry about the earworm! Rich has put links to the music at the bottom of the video but im not sure if you can download it. Have a look on youtube. we have really enjoyed Bath and it certainly is a very beautiful city. and you are right, we do keep pinching ourselves. Thank you for watching and joining us Fran
@2:50 I think the word you were looking for was "niche" niche [niCH, nēSH] NOUN a shallow recess, especially one in a wall to display a statue or other ornament. alcove [ˈalˌkōv] NOUN a recess in the wall of a room or garden. synonyms: recess · niche · nook · opening · bay · hollow · cavity · corner · indentation · booth · apse · inglenook
Very nice indeed, 120 turns was that per gate or both? With that many turns I guess that's why there are not many live aboards in bath with bingo wings.
It was definltely 120 turns to open one gate AND 50 turns for each paddle. Fortunately we only opened one gate but that was quite enough for me! Fran x
I think that is a tunnel/bridge that was built on private land....and the canal. The "gentry" insisted on the area being done to a certain standard...hence the rather lovely bridge. I think on one side the carved face is male, the other side female. I can't remember their names, nor what they represented...🤔
Beautiful, thank you. Great canal journeys with Timothy West and Prunella Scales fully explained the significance of the beautiful canal bridges in Bath. Niche was the word you were looking for. Am I the only person who “went off” Timothy West because of the way he treated his wife, arrogant ####### !
We do get a bit tired of people saying " oh you're doing just what Pru and Tim do". I think I'd rather be compared to Rosie and Jim. You are right about niche though Alan. Thank you Fran x
Floating Our Boat I wasn’t comparing you to anyone. I was just mentioning for interest that Great Canal journeys fully explained the significance of the bridges and their furniture. Don’t be so precious. Love your videos.
I know you weren't comparing us Alan and I really wasn't taking offence. Just stating that people often bring up Pru and Tim when we talk about our boating life. I have never seen the programmes but I'm sure they are full of useful information. Thank you for your comments. Fran
Bath is a beautiful place...especially those crescents of houses and the Roman Baths.....
YOU ARE THE FIRST BOATER TO EVER CRUISE TO BATH....
I loved Bath.. I remember going across the bridge and going into the teeny shops on it 🥰😍
I visited Bath in 2000, so amazing. Thanks guys!
Love the drone footage👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it

Bath - another place on our wish list to visit!

Thank you Tony. We will definitely walk round Sydney gardens before we leave Bath.

It looks so pretty there. That lock looked really scary! I love the song at the end. All very enjoyable to watch.x
Thank you x
Beautiful but I wasn’t too keen on that lock 😳
Looks like you will have a nice time around Bath, I remember cycling through there many years ago on my way to Bournmouth, many beautiful buildings to look at, that was some lock, a bit scarey!, thanks for the ride
How beautiful is that? I can only imagine
Beautifully done! And Rich, you seem to have a knack for letting Fran get the lock mechanisms which require the most effort! Well done sir.
Hmmmm! that hadn't gone unnoticed by myself!!!

The word you are looking for for the place in a wall for a statue .. A suitable name is probably 'niche'.
Ah yes, thank you
"Long bridge or short tunnel"?
If it should be something it would be a wide bridge :-)
I guess you're right. As far as I'm concerned, if it drips on you its a tunnel!
