Hey at least be glad you don’t live in NYC… here, we also have. Subway extension that’s supposed to take that long, but it is like 3 stations
40 years behind schedule.
Public transit expansion in Toronto stopped in the late 70’s.
Better late than never, honestly. I’m still bitter the englington isnt a true subway. But whatever.
I hope we can extend the western portion of the Ontario Line so it goes up to Dufferin and up to line 2. It would be great for that transit desert.
I hope more subway lines in toronto are built above ground with elevated guideways! Lots of streets outside the core are wide enough to accommodate the space, it doesn't have to worry about red traffic lights like lrts and is cheaper than tunneling. the davenport diamond elevated guideway shows it can be done in toronto, quickly and relatively cheaply
Agree. Montreal's REM is an example of how successful elevated rail can be, and it's a nicer experience for riders.
Yeah, idk why they arent doing that in Toronto
I have had the pleasure of working on this subway line for a co-op. It's going to do wonders to open up transit access to so many people east of the Don and up in Thorncliff
Great to hear that!
It will also give much more access to the homeless , so they can go to many more places to bother people, for money.
@@Jay-vr9ir 😂
You missed that beyond just getting to the CNE, Exhibition will connect Liberty Village (one of the most dense neighbourhoods in the city) to the rest of downtown! Game changer!
You’re right! Absolute game changer. Much appreciated and thanks for watching!
if you can afford to live in liberty you aren't taking transit... the old exhibition go station would have made more sense for the poor in parkdale
@@nimkiitrish I bought in Liberty and I take transit everyday...I'm guessing you're from the suburbs? Transit is just the quickest way to get around in the downtown core, I don't have time to sit in traffic to drive 3km lol
I have lived in the area for more than half my life longer than Liberty has been there. The building of that monstrosity, left the poor and elderly a few blocks away in a food desert. They moved transit further towards liberty. As for traffic, it is now a nightmare as well. I curse Liberty!
Can't wait until it opens spring of 2051.
TTC completed the main game and is now doing the side quests like “Lost in LRT land”, and “Elizabeth line was taken”
That was super helpful! Great video.
Thank you!
I enjoyed the video, although you failed to discuss the subway stations north of Pape.
i remember when the Vaughan line was built, super super valuable - excited for this!
Yes, it’s going to be a good one!
That was nice as far as you went, I was waiting to hear about the remaining stations after Pape... will you be doing them?
very informitive
thanks for the info
Thank you!
Thanks!
And do you think working in the TTC design apartment is a good choice for engineers? For the project Ontario Line South.
@2:04 street car is about 30-45 minutes from Bathurst, it will also serve Liberty Village
Why did you abruptly end the analysis - what about the other stations?
Ontario line is awesome... I just wish they would extend it up to Shepherd to Fairview Mall and the Shepherd Line.
Good video with some great analysis. I will point out one minor factual error (oversight). There is a fourth interchange station at the north terminus of the line at Eglinton and Science Centre on the new Eglinton Crosstown line. Looking forward to new update videos from you.
Yes I missed out on that one in the video, sorry about that.
Thank you for watching :)
wow i'm surprised you didn't talk about the major interchange on the new eglinton crosstown line 5 that will connect ontario line to midtown Toronto.
Great info. This will be great for the city.
Definitely!
it's only great for Ford. The kick backs must be huge.
How, the problem south of Bloor was ALWAYS east-west traffic, even with the inception of the subway. And the Eglinton line is suppose to help with east-west traffic north of Bloor. We don't need a line crossing the downtown. What a waste. And seems all Doug Ford has done since being elected was give developers free reign to tear down shopping centers, restaurants entertainment venues, retail, and put up ugly condo and apartment towers. So not only is congestion 10, 100, 1000 fold, we have less and less places to go. Toronto is a very very sick city.
@@jab2780 this line's main goal is to relieve the north-south traffic that exists on the Yonge portion of line 1. It's actually way better planned than previous relief line which would have had little functionality besides the aforementioned goal, at least the Ontario line will provide connections to more communities. Although I do agree with your critisms of Doug Ford. I personally believe that the Ontario line is a much needed project but I feel his motivations for greenlighting it is to take the attention off of his concessions to his developer buddies.
@@ant8504 If they had more reliable southern east-west line (Queen St/King) and northern east-west line, it would be fine. But Exhibition north-east to whatever. OMG.
And still no plans for Scarborough?
Why does it curve to bypass Union? Why not just keep the line straight and increase speeds that way?
Brooo good video but how did u not show the stations near eglinton line which is being finished this year its gonna be a huge change to the city it's like a mini subway
What about the remainder of the line......up to the Science Centre? Chimo
More videos like this, 🤠
Sure, will try my best! Thanks for watching.
I'm very excited about this project! Hope it will be done on time :)
Same and hope for the best!
Thank you for watching.
Well if the Eglinton LRT is any indication...
@B-man The Champ Still we want to believe :)
No major TTC line in Toronto has ever come to fruition on time and on or under budget/ I expect it won't be done till 2035 and at least a billion dollars over budget.
Great info Amrit!
Thanks Steve.
3 potential infill stations that could and should be added in: Liberty Village (Strachan/East Liberty), Distillery District (Cherry/LSE corridor) and Mortimer (Pape/Mortimer).
Agree! :)
I think Lakeshore/Bathurst where the loblaws is would be a great stop as there are a lot of condos/population there
Strachan and East Liberty, although close to Exhibition, is a missed opportunity IMO.
Amrit ur all VDOS r so informative !
Great information
Thank you!
Queen & Spadina McDicks… if you know, you know haha well said
Haha
See you in 2123.
4 with the line 5 eglinton crosstown
Wasn't construction actually started in 2022? 🤔
I think 2020 or 2021
Based on Metrolinx’s performance on the Eglinton LRT the Ontario line will be completed sometime after 2040 and will more or less bankrupt the province in the process. A complete disaster.
finch and eglinton lrt isn’t even done yet -_- toronto works on way too many projects at one time and it causes so much traffic
Clearly you live in the west side of Yonge...breeze right though the east side
Tim Hortons
Do people really need another subway line in the DT? Guess we’ll see in 2050!
Well done. Too bad I had to leave Toronto for a more affordable place….like the ☀️ Sunny French Riviera….
Why does the line not continue to Sheppard Avenue?
Sorry for late response.
You mean sheppard ave east ? They are going to extend the line 2 from Kennedy station to Sheppard ave east ( Sheppard & McCowan).
@@Amritwalia12 Thank you for responding. Why does the Ontario Line not continue north under Don Mills and then intersect with the Sheppard East Subway?
And that it continues north to Finch East to service the Seneca College Campus.
It seems odd that this is outside the plan.
@@ryleighloughty3307 once the line gets built there's always possibility for future extensions
@@tasneemfatema7346 Yes, but it seems logical that it continues to Sheppard to intersect with the Sheppard line. Odd.
Finish in 2050 🤞
The line, as first conceived 100 years ago, connected with either Dufferin or Dundas West, and therefore properly served the West End. As it is now, it serves only Liberty Village. Another wasted opportunity that we're going to have to fix and pay for with lots more money decades from now.
Metrolink will finish this construction project in 5x5 years?5×7 ??? 🤪🤪🤪🤪
I don't think even one person will ever ride on this subway. It will take far too long to complete and some sort of Black Swan Event will occur prior to its completion. Canada will be completely flat by then. Good day
Toronto also needs an east west line in north part of the city from Scarborough to Etobicoke and to woodbine area and the Airport somewhere in and along the 401. It makes about zero sense not to have the airport serviced by the subway system.
It's going to cost 5 times more than stated, and be delayed by 2-3 years, you'll see.
Lmao I'm Aussie but had to look up that McDonald's, holy. I've been to a similar one plenty of times but the Queen/Spadina McD definitely takes the cake
Haha yea the one on queen & Spadina is an interesting one!
2023 to 2031? 8 years to build a subway line? Contact the chinese contractor. they can build it in 4 years time plus 2/3 of the cost!!!
For some reason, I thought the Ontario Line was using the GO corridor in the Don Valley..
The joint corridor (GO transit and Ontario line ) will be between the station East Harbour and Gerrard station.
Thank you for watching!
@@Amritwalia12 thanks. I was dreaming of SmartTrack
bro im finna be on my death bed and then someones gonna tell me they just finished the line 😭
Whatever happened to John Tory's Smart Track project?
How can you say if it only involves Toronto representing Ontario?
What about other area around you?
Toronto, Ontario, Canada ?
It is only you little house in your border?
Probably because the terminus station is at Ontario Science Centre in Toronto? Like every TTC Line have a locality area name and number for the line. (1 Yonge-University, 2 Bloor-Danforth, 3 Scarborough, 4 Shepard etc). Better than it being called the Downtown Relief Line where it was based on off.
Woah bro are we related 😂😂 another Walia in Toronto
Lol nice to meet you! 😃
As for the tree replanting, if you read the site report that was prepared for Osgood Hall station replanting the tree will not be possible because there will not be enough soil due to the underground construction around the station. Once these trees are gone that's it.
its useless. it needs to curve up on the west side of the city as well... my thought was Weston Road.
2031 😂😂😂
if crosstown takes 15 years then 15 subway stops will take at least 30 years
To complete in 2031??? I thought it is 2029.
Yes as per metrolinx estimated completion timeline is 2031 🤞
What's the point of making another subway line? You already have GO trains and street cars that can reach those destinations.
Initial idea is to provide relief for the Yonge-University-Spadina line (#1) which is at or over capacity and the Bloor-Danforth line(#2) which is nearing capacity during rush hour...
@@AuntieVenom2 True. But can't wait for the number of disruptions and shuttle buses for this to be completed.
@@Tee123tee Yea😬. There's that...
One of the reasons is to relieve the subway passenger crush on the platforms at the Bloor-Yonge station particularly during rush hours.
@@edwardmiessner6502 The TTC should revive the "wye" interchange and lower Bay station, to relieve congestion at Bloor/Yonge.
Enjoyed the video until it starting celebrating the gentrification of Moss Park without mentioning how it will displace all of the residents that currently live there, and what their fate will be.
Yeah that is pretty sad, but by the time the line is finished gentrification will have probably been in full swing for a while. Accidentally walked through it at night not too long ago, I hope all the people struggling there make out okay.
Wonder if AI will end up displacing many financial district jobs by the time project is finally done?
Choo choo! This thing will rocket at literally tens of kilometers per hour! Hurray, we are so great! Eight years of construction for fifteen kilometer spur off an existing subway! Aren't we just the best, a real world class city?! Meanwhile in China, they have twenty thousand miles of high speed rail, all of it constructed since the year 2000. Of course, they didn't spend the last twenty years invading Iraq, Afghanistan, haven't brought peace and democracy to other countries in the form of military occupation and humanitarian bombing. This pathetic excuse for a transit system is the very best the ruling class of this city is prepared to allow. The best. If this "modern" piece of crap gets built by 2050, it'll be miraculous.
Amrit: thank you for your video! If I may, I'd suggest to make it better, please, avoid the "OK?" after each statement. Or just edit them out. It sounds as if you were extremely anxious or in a rush to finish your video. Thank you again.
Appreciate the feedback, will take care next time :)
@@Amritwalia12 O.K.
Do Canadians have Indian accents now?
If you're not First Nations then you're an immigrant. Canada is one of the world's most diverse countries, and in Toronto more than half of the population are born outside of Canada.
Get with the times old man.
NO. Canada was founded by very specific people, just as every "indian" tribe was on the continent. "Indians" fought for land just as every other peoples on the planet. Canada is NOT a nation of immigrants. It was founded by Europeans for Europeans. I'm not against immigration, but I am against this idea Canada, USA, and increasingly, UK and Europe are for everyone and anyone, but outside the West is okay for certain peoples and that land belongs to those peoples. The land under EVERYONES' feet was fought/taken by someone. Europeans founded Canada and USA. Period.
@@jab2780 Canada and USA were built already by the First Nations. The illegal European immigrants came, committed genocide, stole land, pillaged and destroyed villages and towns, committed mass rape, and then distributed the land to other illegal European immigrants. Since then, so much of what was built in Canada, from the railroad to the ports, to the factories, towers, highways and cities were built by immigrants, from European to African, Asian, and Latin American. Even today, the food you eat that's "grown in Canada" is likely done by farm workers from non-European countries. The banks, tech, stores, consumer products, cars, everything made in Canada or imported to Canada is made by people from every corner of the world. I don't know what kind of programming you've been a victim to for you to think "Canada was built by Europeans for Europeans". We're all human, and we all want peace, shelter, belonging, self-fulfillment, progress, and prosperity. Unlike the rest of the world, Canadian society has managed to bring the entire world together and show that we can coexist without any issues, and that our safest and best economically performing regions are our most diverse as proof.
I just love Indian people constantly talking for Canada...
"To be completed in 2031" ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
When this was first announced in 2019 I believe they said 2029 or 2030 at a cost of $10.9 billion. It is now into 2023 and cost is now at $17 to $19B and we are saying 2031. We haven't even broken ground yet and we are already $7 to $9B over budget and a year behind schedule.
We will be lucky is we see this before 2100 and only God can guess what the cost will be ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
