Ren was never hospitalized for psychiatric issues. He was originally diagnosed with Bipolar and depression. He experienced 3 months of psychosis 6 years into his illness when he was 25. It took 7 years for him to get a correct diagnosis of Lyme disease. Until then he had massive issues with digestion, fatigue, brain fog abd constant pain. He eventually had 2 experimental stem cell transplants which brought him back to life. But there is brain and organ damage bone pain and MCAS ,which makes him allergic to all but 5 foods.
He has been working with a clinic in Calgary, Canada thiscwhole year trying to heal and stabilize his condition.
He also jyst got a #1 album in the UK last month with no label backing. He speaks for the chronically ill.
He was detained by the police after having a psychotic break, but he was never institutionalized.
Ren speaks to and for ALL HUMANITY!!!

Not in a mental institution. Ren was bedridden for quite some time, barely able to function and survive. Great reaction folks. I truly hope you watch more Ren videos; you honestly never know what you will get. There is a great deal of backstory on Ren's healthcare experience. In general, he was misdiagnosed with various mental conditions. In reality he had Lyme Disease, which was not diagnosed properly for a number of years. By that point, the virus had debilitated him. Finally he received proper diagnosis then had to travel to America then Canada to seek treatment. Lyme Disease can be treated and most people recover. Some, such as Ren, do not. Ren may experience problems for the remainder of his life. We all pray he does not and can live a disease free life.

Not only is he independent, but he also plays 6 different instruments, sings, raps, and produces, mixes, and masters all of his own music. He started out as a Busker (street performer), when he was 12, and he's now 33. He's one of those once in a generation artists that truly eats, breathes, and sleeps music. He recently said he has over 1000 songs in various stages of completion on his computer's hard drive.
Ren had a record deal with Sony and started having health issues had to decline the deal . He was misdiagnosed with Bi polar disorder and chronic fatigue syndrome . The medication they put him on gave him psychosis. After about 10 years. He was finally correctly diagnosed with Lyme disease, and with the release of this video, he was able to get proper treatment still ongoing .
I'm not much of a rap fan, but his song "power " is 🔥
From the conversation you had, I really believe Ren's song, Seven Sins, is something that you will really, really be able to have a conversation around. Ren states he is Agnostic but the biblical references he felt fit and were references that others could understand. He has so many amazing songs. The Tales of Jenny and Screech (Full Official Video, it's about 13 minutes long but it's 3 separate stories that are done as live performance pieces in 1 take videos,) Money Game parts 1, 2, & 3 (part 1 is a live performance piece in a 1 take video, part 2 is a lyric video, part 3 is another live performance and it's a video with 1 cut/edit), Lost All Faith, Masochist, Sick Boi part 1&2, Genesis, Wicked Ways, Animal Flow (1 shot video based loosely on Animal Farm by George Orwell, A Clockwork Orange, The Warriors [movie from the 1980's], and
Willy Wonka.) Those are all some of his newer work but he has over 10 years of songs and videos and I don't think there's one that I can say is a BAD song.
Also, if you get any type of copyright on any of the Ren videos, just contact his team and they will take care of it. Ren splits the monetization of his videos with reactors as a thank you for sharing his music . Ren got a #1 album in the UK in October for his album Sick Boi and this was done with a completely gas roots campaign of Ren's fanbase and the reactors to help get him there. He beat out Drake, Ed Sheeran, The Rolling Stones and Rick Astley (Ren ALMOST got Rick-Rolled, but he pulled the #1 spot!)
There should be someone named JustJens that will come comment at some point with Ren's entire health story and really interesting information about him.

No mainstream support or major label and his album was #1 on the UK charts within days. I am blown away by this guy, he is a true artist and we've been consuming garbage by comparison. Check out his stuff with The Big Push, he can do anything.
Ren is a minstrel for the modern day. He's phenomenally talented at singing, playing instruments, acting and making videos that are more a work of art than just music. Chalk Outlines, all three parts of Jenny and Screech and all three parts of Money Game should be on your watch list.
A comment to others--Ren is agnostic. The imagery he uses in his lyrics that may reference biblical figures or be interpreted as such is really for effect. React to Ren's 'Dear God' and 'Eden' to understand where Ren sits on the spectrum of belief. Ren's music really focuses more on the aspects of humanity rather than religeon. In 'Seven Sins' (truly amazing rap) Ren lists out the seven sins but focuses a long rap segment on GREED. 'Money Game 1, 2 and 3' forus on greed too. You know darn well what Ren's beleifs are by listening to his music. And it is all phenomenal. Awesome reaction Vin and Sori.
It kinda seemed to me like 'Dear God' showed a belief in the christian (or one of the Abrahamiac) faith but as more of the relationship with God, as opposed to the doctrine and tradition of "religion" which was further enforced in my mind by a few lines in 'Wicked Ways' that referred to Jesus as 'porcelain messiah' but still also said that he prays to him... i took it as his faith being shaky, but reinforcing the fact that it's there. If he is agnostic, it does seem he leans very much closer to Christian (or some type of Abrahamiac religion) than other ones.

As a person who's been fighting a mental battle for over a decade now, that included psychosis and hospitalization, I can't even imagine how I would feel if I found out it all started with a tick. One of the biggest issues for me during this has been believing that something is wrong with my mind. It's a war with an enemy that's constantly trying to convince you that there's no war to begin with. It's amazing to me that he's not consumed with anger but instead shares his story and helps others to stay in the fight.

@@Penddraig7 correct, it's a one shot, multiple cameras, i believe the monologue at the end is taken from one of the 4 shots, but the main song is all in one go and the audio is a single take
@@ian9033 not even a one shot, well definitely not a one shot, the constant switch of camera angles voids it of being a one shot, a one shot is one continuous shot using the same camera or giving the illusion of one continuous shot for example Money Game 3 gives the illusion of it being one shot but we clearly see there is a cut as the camera pans behind the wheelchair and then they scene is set up, the smoke grenade and smoke is cleared and then they start filming again using the wheelchair to try and hide the cut, so that is a one shot, Hi Ren is neither a one shot nor a one take.

If you watch the camera angles at the end, you notice it is not one take. Otherwise, you would see the camera getting the closeups from the wider camera. Some of it at least is a mix of takes.

I am glad to see y'all reacting to some Ren. Ren's story is gripping and his talent is stellar. If you wish to check out more, he has a deep catalog of music. Everyone in the comments can make multiple recommendations. He has work in rap, pure theatrical story telling and vocally melodic songs. Also worked with a band for a while and has several works with other lesser known but no less talented artists. My personal suggestions would echo several I have already seen, it's hard to just recommend one or two songs because they are all so good.

There's no rapper hip hop artist as talented as Ren. It's insane. Eminem wish he 40 had the all around Talent that Ren has. This is coming from a die hard Metallica fan who found Ren looking for a Metallica reaction videos. It was an accident. He's incredible. He is number one artist in my opinion going today.

Great reaction and interesting conversation. I think you mentioned Jung, who often wrote about the shadow self, the part of us we think of as dark and often try to repress. The shadow (like Slim Shady) is a common theme in Ren's music, especially in Hi Ren. In a recent interview (I forgot which one), Ren said that a lot of people misinterpreted Hi Ren as him defeating his dark side (or inner demon) in order to overcome his illness. Instead, he said, it was about him coming to terms with his dark, critical side, learning to create from a melding of the dark and light within him. I think you referred to it as a truce, which is a good way to put it. Jung talked about that as "individuation," in which a person becomes "whole," realizing all of his/her parts. I'm paraphrasing both Ren and Jung quite a bit, but I think that's the gist of it. Subbed!

He had severe symptoms from Lyme disease that worsened because of the side effects from the prescription meds they gave him, for mental health issues, wrongly believing he was "just" experiencing metal illness.

The best thing about this particular Ren reaction is that the esoteric topics you ended up discussing, I bet Ren himself would enjoy watching and being a part of that type of conversation. He's a very intelligent guy, and insanely talented - highly suggest you check out more of his back catalogue.
This man managed to leave a legacy with just one song. His other tracks are incredible as well, but this one will save countless lives. As someone mentioned in your comments there are certain words that lets us know he's been there. "Therapy speak" words. He knows the struggle. Perhaps more than most of us. Very few can relate literally to this, but metaphorically there are a lot of us. That voice in our head telling us we're useless and worthless.

Really nice discussion after about the spiritual versus interdimensional and aliens that are from space. I personally think they are interdimensional but that brings us back to the spiritual. I am what some people call n experiencer, so I experience and have done since childhood lots of paranormal stuff including alien and UFO stuff, which has led me to question reality and become deeply spiritually close to God. Ren certainly gets the conversations flowing doesn't he?

Ren was "diagnosed" and treated for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. So some serious meds that didn't work obviously, so they just increased them to the point it caused as much or more mental and physical problems than the Lyme Disease.
I pleaded for you to react to this 9 months ago, so I'm really happy to see this! (Just at the start now.) But, you have some misinformation. Ren wasn't institutionalized for four years! But he was sick and misdiagnosed.

One point to have in mind is they used 3 cameras - L , R and hand held. They did several takes to get the take they used for the video. So this is a live performance - his guitar is plugged in and his gown has a mic. Quite a few of his videos are shot several times to get The Take used for the video.

In England Lyme's desiese is not common so they miss diagnose his illness but treated him for all sorts of stuff.He became addicted to the drugs they gave him and told him his mind was making him sick.The Lyme's has damaged his brain so he is left with loads of problems

I love this so much, Ren is dope. I just realized bad Ren was using diminished third notes, AKA the devil's interval or diablos in musica, I have been listening to him for a bit and never caught it before. The Lyme disease thing is interesting, I live in New Brunswick and used to be a piercer, I had a client with lyme once, her dad and I did a consult because it is autoimmune and her parents brought her to Maine before they found a doc that said she had Lyme, because there is no foot in the door for young doctors here. Einstein had a cool quote about science and religion, can't remember it and I am too lazy to look it up, but he said that both serve a necessary function..
There is very little that is completely original in art. But this song is as close as anyone got in the last decade at least. Going from the very personal to the very universal and bringing it then back home to his private situation is as good a storytelling as it gets. He did something very similar with his latest release "Money Game Part 3". Ren is an artist like they appear once in a generation: beyond any genre or style, completely independent and defying all so-called laws of the industry. He's like David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Kendrick Lamarr and Joni Michell had a love child.

I hope Ren sees this reaction. He has frequently checked in with many different reactors personally, to thank them and sometimes leave a little comment. I do think he'd get a kick out of your conversation-- he loves when this happens.
One thing he said about this song explicitly is that the denouement foe it is the full integration of both light & dark sides to make a whole entity. His use of Mephistopheles, Lucifer, etc is the metaphoric part.
He also said more than once that, when he was younger and newly experiencing his illness, when the doctors were telling him it was all in his head, he thought he was dealing with a kind of demonic force. I think now he has moved in his opinion to one that is simply scientific, but is still interested in how and why his brain took him on that frightfest. He was pretty close to ending it, but i believe that his experience of having a close friend commit suicide (Joe Hughes of their hometown of Anglesy, Wales, apparently jumped off a high bridge), knowing what it would do to his loved ones.
But he did find himself bedridden 23 hours a day for months at a time over a few years, and he lost SO much weight. If you see him now, he's obviously been hitting the weights again, and he's ripped (thanks also to his really restricted diet)... but he made a few videos when he was still underweight & malnourished.

Welcome to the Renaissance! Ren is my favourite artist of all time. I say artist because he is a multifaceted diamond! From singing (all styles) to rapping (bars/flows/schemes for days), Bardcore (story telling) beatbox, makes his own beats, scatting and a multi instrumentalist (guitars, bass, drums, melodica and more). On top of that he is the most beautiful human being inside and out who has been through and continues to go through absolute hell.
He’s 33 from Anglesey, Wales originally but spent most his life in Brighton, England. He’s been living in Calgary, Canada all year receiving intense medical treatment for his brain damage and mast cell activation disorder amongst other things.
He started off making beats at 12 and selling CDs then moved on to busking. He was part of a band called Trick The Fox and was signed to Sony but they didn’t renew the contract after his health deteriorated. He then started The Big Push. They went on hiatus the end of last year after 5 years partly due to his move to Canada and also because the other members are also soloists and were moving around too.

Loved the conversation. Ren seems like he is will be right up your alley. There are so many great songs of his. I would suggest the Money game trilogy. Another one I think you would love is Crucify Your Culture. It is older and not reacted to so much, but the lyrics are gold.

I couldn't wait for these two to finally react to it I used to watch them all the time with Metallica reaction videos br before Ren. And I don't know if they like it or not I heard Eminem did it I feel comfortable on saying Eminem didn't do it on an nylon acoustic guitar live by himself. Also I heard he doesn't know about religion. Maybe I missed it I don't know
I know that your channel is a business but your interest in this song from REN makes me think that you should check out some other stuff from REN for your own interest on or off the channel as you will get a lot to discuss. Sigmund Freud may have oversimplified it, and I may get this a little warped, but he realised that there's a subconscious side to us all that is self-centred and desires chasing things that seem pleasurable and can be arrogant (ego), and there is also the side that wants to please people, that is often scared, wants to fit in and is doubtful (id). The ego seems to be useful for ambition, drive to build and look after ourselves, while the id seems to be helpful in keeping the ego in check so we don't sabotage ourselves or make a public fool of ourselves. Then the conscious part (super-ego) can learn to listen to these drives in the form of trail of thought and emotion, and can make a decision from there, but it requires zooming out with headspace (mindfulness). So often we mistake the ego and id as our own thoughts, assuming it's our super-ego doing the thinking, which makes a sense of identity, persona. I've personally found it's so helpful to see the ego and id as useful tools, that can take over if not kept in regular check. We must parent the inner child without judgement.
Ren did suffer from stress psychosis after years of hoping for answers / treatment only to be let down.

Ren went years misdiagnosed with depression bi polar chronic fatigue syndrome the meds caused him to have psychosis he got PTSD to but not from the meds he has ADHD too he had a recording deal with Sony in 2010 why working on his album he got sick and couldn't finish it so they parted ways he moved back to Wales he got so sick he became bedridden for up 23 hours a day it would take years before he got right diagnosis of Lyme disease he went so long misdiagnosed that he has Brain damage Organ damage Joint damage he has had stem cell therapy done he in Canada right now getting treatment done he has to have IV 5 days a week they put this thing on his head that help open path ways in his brain he take hand full meds 2 times a day the autoimmune cause him to have allergic reaction to just about everything he eats so he can only eat 2 kinds of beef and few vegetables so he eats same thing everyday Ren play drum bass guitar piano he produces his own music mixes his own beats sings raps and beatboxes he was in band call the pig push they do busking on street Ren album was number 1 in Uk in October
