BUDDY HALL vs KEITH MCCREADY - 2003 US Open 9-Ball Championship

- Two of the biggest personalities in the game as Buddy Hall takes on Keith McCready at the 2003 US Open 9-Ball Championship.
Fifty eight year old Buddy Hall, was known as “The Rifleman” and was one of the most feared players on the table when in his prime. He is a former two time US Open 9-Ball and Challenge of Champions Champion, and was inducted into the BCA Hall of Fame in 2000.
Forty six year old Keith “The Earthquake” McCready won a number of titles over his career, but more important than that, was feared when in action. He notably played the role of Grady Seasons in The Color of Money, where he coined the phrase “It’s like a nightmare, isn’t it?”.
Of notable interest in this match, it was the first time that the measles cue ball was ever used in an Accu-Stats 9-ball match.
Hang out after the match for interviews with both players.
Jim Wych and Bill Incardona called all of the action at this one.

Honor to induct Kieth into the Hall of Fame
When?
Keith was inducted into the One Pocket Hall of Fame. (January 2018)
Not the Billiard/Pool Hall of Fame, which hurts him deeply.
Hope they spell his name right. You didn't!😮😢😅
@@StevenNorko no one ever said Pool players were known for having brains or intelligence. Most are drunks, drug addicts, and gamblers/hustlers. Don't expect perfect spelling lol.
That's some pretty weird cueing technique. The coaches today would have a field day commenting it.
Yeah all they can do is talk about it, but can't beat Keith with it. Can't argue that technique is a champions stroke.
Sidearm Stroke. Keith believes it came from when he played so young, he couldnt reach top of table. So his arm would stick out side, to reach over table. He believes he kept that Side Stroke. Not Weird, Legendary Keith Stroke!
-Imagine if Commentators saw someone Drinking Budweiser before a Break or during play, like Keith does here and always!! Keeping it real!!
….tell me 🤣
Literally never saw him play before and the first thing that came into my head was what an absolutely horrid cue action and technique
Look at Bustamante
One of the most basic rules of playing pool is to stay down while shooting, do not jump up too early and Keith seems to do that a lot. He is a great player so I don't understand why he keeps "jumping up".
Because he's playing at a speed 10x faster than your brain can comprehend. So he was down, but was moving so much faster than you.
10 times? nah pool is easy sometimes once you can see the layout and can control cue ball. Nine ball makes it a lot easier than eight ball.
Gotta love Keith and his ranting. Should be a great match. Can’t wait. Thanks Pat! Happy New Year to you and your family.
Thank you Pat! Two of the greatest players that ever lived in their prime! Love it!
I played buddy hall back in 92. He really was a great player back then. I asked him if he was in stroke today? He said I've been in stroke my whole life😂😂 I don't remember him missing a whole lot back then but I know I didn't get to shoot very much at all.
Entertaining all the way to the end. 😀👍
What ever happened to the Sardo Tight Rack? Great invention to always have a tight rack. Strange that it’s not used any longer.
Quit comparing the yesteryears to today. Back in the day was a whole different ball game. It was more charismatic
I remember watching this on ESPN back when it aired. At 1:23 when McCready jumped that ball I thought it was over. He’s drinking beer the whole match, so he seemed shit faced by the end of the match. Liquid confidence lol. Hall has always been one of my favorites. Class player all the way.
I watched Keith play at Hard Times in Bellflower when he was very young. He was impressive then...:)
I saw him there too. He had a table presence and fluidity in his playing that was art form. Too bad he didn't have self discipline when it came to intoxicants. He would probably be in the Hall of Fame otherwise.
Buddy's consistensy, Keith's pocketing pace as well as Billy's highly analytical commentation and Jim's surprising ability to get Bill choked (2:20). What a match!
Buddy has the smoothest stroke timing and form...when Keith is right he's genius vey exciting player
Eh, Mizerak was better. Keith cries too much. Worse than Sigal or Immonen even.
*NO PROBLEM WATCH VIDEOS WITH KEITH MCREADY MORE THAN ONCE. THE GRADY MATHEWS ONE POCKET MATCH IS EPIC WITH COMMENTATORS. BEST VIDEO ON UA-cam*
These guys were pool hustlers. They only had to play a little better than the other guy. If you think you could beat them then they made their point. I would never "cross cues" with neither of them but particularly with McCready. He is a beast.
If it wasn't for Keith being the pro consultant in the color of money and he ended up being in the movie and pool hit it big time we need a new show or movie to get some young blood in the game again 😊
Great 👍 match..two legends 😊
Who recognizes this classic line? - - "What's the Point in callin' shots, miscuin' straight-in-line? Cueball's made of Styrofoam and no-one's got the time!"
Mississippi Half-step Uptown Toodeloo - ☠️⚡ 🌹
As good as Keith was, he definitely wasn’t consistent and he missed a lot of easy shots and often didn’t get good shape on the next shot. Which explains why I was his successful nemesis back in the early 90’s. Also, him being drunk didn’t always work to his advantage either.
Rifleman not finding Keith's sharking attempts very amusing . . .
Well Edie in the group chat was totally correct about it being double hill great match they didn't play what their age says they played like they were still in their 30s lol I'm only 46 and I already can't see much on a long straight in shot
1:05:22 Mcready drinkin his beer during the match. I wonder if the pro circuit would allow that nowadays. 🤔
I like Buddy, he has that Cheshire Cat grin.
Kind of poor play but the different cue ball can make a big difference
*TREAT TO FIND BUDDY HALL and KEITH MCCREADY IN THE SAME MATCH*
*WHEN PLAYERS HAD "FREEDOM". =ALMOST.....KEITH DRANK HIS BUDWEISER, BUT HAD IT SHIELDED IN THE AUDIENCE DURING PLAY* 1:37:33 _Buddy INTERVIEW straight up, MEASLE CB NOT made as good as older Cue Balls!! _GEM VIDEO + INTERVIEW_
McCready is a legend, but such a quirky twitch player with his facial expressions. He seems like he has had his share of substances!
Buddy with the well-deserved nickname, and Keith has to be the best worst player ever, and Jim with his usual high standard of amazing quality, and Billy, again, with his insufferable commentary and presence. Classic...
Quite a contrast between Keith vs Efren and this year . .
Efren so slow and non entertaining. Keith would whip Efren if they both in their prime playing for cash
@lordmaximus4602 please explain? Would love to hear why you would say that.
@@joeyvanleeuwen5229 : Well, when Keith first played Efren he was quite the dapper Dan. See?
@@rogerscottcathey thank you for not answering my question..
@@joeyvanleeuwen5229 : Keith was quite a slick player, handsome and snarky. He's still snarky but doesn't have the slick looks anymore. More like a toothless guy you'd never guess was the same guy who talked down to Efren back when, calling him "little man". Understand "contrast" now?
After pocketing the 9 in the 1st rack,
looks like McCready went to the 12 0z bottled beer for
rehydration.....can you booze while playing an event?
Nothing like a ice cold brewski while playing with ur friends.
Don't get me wrong, I love Billy. The voice of Accu-Stats.
But his motor-mouth keeps talkin' right over the other commentators.
Really, Billy?
Keiths favorite 4 letter word, NEXT!
Jimmy who? Doesn’t seem like he knows what he’s talking about
Keifus
By FAR one of the BEST matches in pool history! Worth the watch, While you're at it, watch the movie 'The Color Of Money" before you watch this!
Lol.
@@lordmaximus4602 Yep, you agree LOL
neither guy played their best
Buddy doesnt look well.
Agreed
Just proves you can not learn to play pocket billiards. You got to play and play alot. Once you stop, you lose alot of fell for spin and speed
Mccreedy on meth
McCready was always a blow bag. Obnoxsious bloviating bragger. Good player in his prime though.
👁️👁️
When pool was played on buckets
They were on Diamond table. I believe those always were tighter than most.
I honestly think I would have a chance against these guys. Their cueing and knowledge are horrid. McCready is playing slop. That carom should have been easy in game 3.
Both have been road players for decades. Might I suggest a wonderful read. Rags to Rifleman. A somewhat colorful biography on Buddy Hall. There are several great stories on Keith as well. You will enjoy it! Unfortunately, this was towards the end of Buddy's career.
In the 80's these two were arguably the two best nine ball players in the world
@mrkeysersoze1981 no trust me, you have ZERO chance even with them playing in their old age today lol. You bangers are crazy
