I believe Dr. Wu is one of my top favorites (among many from SD). This one clearly shows DF's penchant for film noir ala Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett while on the edge of a vividly colorful world he's created for us. I can tell it's a favorite of yours as well since you've done at least two versions. Still, I'm hoping for the definitive tutorial from above as you've done with Time Out of Mind for this one as it's a showcase for many of the subtle keyboard magic tricks DF uses from Katey Lied onward, and it's been over 13 years since this version. Looking forward to that and many more - maybe Rose Darling? Charlemagne? 3rd World Man?
Wonderful! I love Dr Wu, and primarily because the piano is so beautiful. Even with all the intricate writing and variety of instruments, the piano stands out. You have shown how the melody stands on it's own with just the piano. I love it, thank you for sharing.
Hey Logo, Always such a joy to hear you play those masterpieces man! You're the best on the net! By far! Let me know when you come to Paris. 'Til then,be safe and keep playing.
Awesome! I love your interpretations of SD's stuff. Thought I had this stuff figured out right, but I hear sonorities in your interpretations that I don't have covered....damn! Thanks for posting!
i dont know why i always clap after this guy plays i now he cant here me but feel compeled to after such an exclent play of the sd music truly awesome comendeble keep up the good work dude ! YOU HAVE DEFINITLY PASSED THE AUDITION! THANKS FOR POSTIN! CHEERS
I read the Brian Sweet autobiography of SD and they used a particular piano in the studio on Katy Lied and its stamp is all over the album. I love that album and Dr Wu is one of their beautiful ballads with an amazing sax solo .Hard to pick a favourite Dan album but Katy Lied is right up there.
It took me 10 years to give 11 TOW a fair listen, and I have spun it pretty regularly for the past five. As much as I really wanted to like Morph The Cat, it's truly a collection of songs I don't need to hear.
Fantastic Job! Learned this great Steely Dan song from your tutorial and its the best song we do in our family band. Can you post any other Steely Dan songs as tutorials with a good angle? Kid Charlemagne anything...... These guys are the tightest band I have ever heard.
this is brilliant, i love the babylon sisters clip aswell. nice purdie shuffle on the drums if that was you! my favourite is 'any major dude' if you could do that it'd be great.
I think you're the guy I responded to some time ago regarding the Josie part on Rhodes? Once again you've done a fantastic job and even included some horn parts into the melody. Fantastic effort. Shame you're so far away because a lot of the stuff I write is similarly based chordally, although a little more modern, and thankfully I'm a guitar player. Wouldn't be able to compete with that. :-)
Hi, I really want to play this wonderful song. Any chance you have the transcription for this song? If so please reply because I am in need of this beautiful arrangement
Hey - thanks for responding... I'm not intimately acquainted with each of their solo material, but every time I saw the Dan live the contrast shone through sharply. The first time was at SPAC a number of years back from that show I just remember how weak Becker's solo material was. More recently at the Beacon, he tried to sing one of the songs and it just wilted. Anyway - kudos to Becker, he has some great guitar work in there. But good players are far more common than great writers.
Hey thanks man I appreciate that! Yeah Australia is quite far for a collaboration I guess lol, but you never know! It would be great to hear some of your stuff, why not upload some? :)
Interesting - see, I would argue that most of those songs are about much more than "the party excess lifestyle" - that's all subjective anyway, what is "excess...." Less important in a sense than the story itself sometimes is how it's told - and as you said, Fagen is a deep storyteller; he is a poet and an artist.
@logosthedestroyer Ah ! ok :-) and the Dutch is your own or the translater's ? :-)) Anyway, nice sound and well played. I wish to play like that some day, but i have just started with my keyboard
I would if I had the time CTruman, unfortunately I have my dissertation (in history lol) to get done this month but maybe after that! The thing is the 'chords' and tune are the same in this, so just giving the chords might not be much help. Thanks for the offer on peg though!
@maartenvanderpoll Oh nee, ik niet, ik wil alleen maar om beleefd te zijn! Ik uit England, Stourbridge. Ja, het is een Yamaha ik speel, een p-120's, dat is ongeveer 10 jaar oud.
DavidAwesome work here. Are you still active on this.? I tried to contact you at the contact info above without success. Interested in the transcription of Dr Wu if available.
Please let me know what the "Walt" side of this song is, or most of Dan's COMPOSITIONS. When you see Fagen and Becker side by side, you realize where the strength of this band lies. Becker could have been any decent guitarist (sorry, Walt!)
Dr. Wu to me is not really sad - to me it's a picture of two worlds - reality and a heroin fueled utopia - and the border line in between the two. Sometimes in the chorus here, I am pulled into the opium den...that's good writing.

All great songs... Rose Darling is an overlooked masterpiece
Really nice to listen to on its own!!! Would love to learn to play it like this one day!
Love the keyboard skills. My all time favorite group so this was very enjoyable.
Respect! My all time fav piano track. Beautiful.
I sang, and I almost cried, because this is the Perfect song. The piano, the lyrics ... DAMN GOOD Song!
Wonderful! I love Dr Wu, and primarily because the piano is so beautiful. Even with all the intricate writing and variety of instruments, the piano stands out. You have shown how the melody stands on it's own with just the piano. I love it, thank you for sharing.
This is wonderful. I was looking thru some Steely Dan vids and came across your instrumental. Beautiful. Thanks.
Amazing, just an amazing performance
Thank you
Hey Logo,

This rocks man. It's as if DF himself is playing it!
Being a pianoman myself, I appreciate your great skill. One of my favorite Dan songs btw. Goede keuze!
Thank you so much for this. Massive eye opener. Thanks for helping decipher (and reverse engineer) "The Don"... ;-)
You are most welcome! Thank you for watching
I'm learning this song on piano, and I really have to say I'm impressed with your playing. Fantastic!
i dont know why i always clap after this guy plays i now he cant here me but feel compeled to after such an exclent play of the sd music truly awesome comendeble keep up the good work dude ! YOU HAVE DEFINITLY PASSED THE AUDITION! THANKS FOR POSTIN! CHEERS
Brilliant! The sax part was smooth. Fantastic.
The late, great Phil Woods performed that solo. A perfect example of playing for the song.
Indeed , great song and great sax solo
Nice! Great version of a great song!
What Tom Marks said.. killing me.. Very ambitious to play the sax solo!! Good! Keeps it whole!
It took me 10 years to give 11 TOW a fair listen, and I have spun it pretty regularly for the past five. As much as I really wanted to like Morph The Cat, it's truly a collection of songs I don't need to hear.
I will certainly try! Yeah thanks I appreciate that its one of my favourite beats. Thanks v much for the kind words :)
Gorgeous.
wow ! very well played. compliments !!
Fantastic Job! Learned this great Steely Dan song from your tutorial and its the best song we do in our family band. Can you post any other Steely Dan songs as tutorials with a good angle? Kid Charlemagne anything...... These guys are the tightest band I have ever heard.
Well thanks, that is the idea :) I have learned much from YT so its nice to give something back. Thanks again!
killing me it is so good
WOW DAN-TASTIC !!!
this is brilliant, i love the babylon sisters clip aswell. nice purdie shuffle on the drums if that was you!
my favourite is 'any major dude' if you could do that it'd be great.

Haha yeah the moos! Lol I love em, they give anything the steely dan sound! Thanks v much :)
Thanks very much, I appreciate that
Wow thanks, I don't think complements come any better than that! :)

Thankyou! Haha yeah I'd love to play them all too, there's so many though! Hopefully I will be putting Babylon Sisters on next week sometime..

thanks for that .
Hi, I really want to play this wonderful song. Any chance you have the transcription for this song? If so please reply because I am in need of this beautiful arrangement
I want to learn to play like that, song and all. Logos where do I start, I love the way you play that!!!
Very nice ...

I know what you mean man, its one of my favourite songs too. I kind of wish I knew what the lyrics were about though!
Ha this lad is still liking comments after all of these years!!
You're not wrong
👍🏼💕
yo!# thanks for helting. delightful matter
Thanks! :)
@maartenvanderpoll Hartelijk dank :)
@logosthedestroyer: oh je komt uit Nederland ?
Waar kom je ergens vandaan ? ik uit Breda.
En is dat een yamaha waar je op speelt ?
I have been working on this one for awhile. I have the music less the bridge. What is going on with bridge?
Great sound, Any chance of getting the transcription. Thanks Jim
No, thank you for the kind words! :)
Seems so difficult at first to play, I guess. Kinda Jazzy a bit. Love to hear the main part (in my opinion) of this song - Piano sound.
Hey thanks man I appreciate that! Yeah Australia is quite far for a collaboration I guess lol, but you never know! It would be great to hear some of your stuff, why not upload some? :)
Hey ust been looking at some of your vids, great stuff! Will certainly be checking it out on CdBaby!
I was wondering if you could mail me the transcription? Or are you not using this account anymore

Less important in a sense than the story itself sometimes is how it's told - and as you said, Fagen is a deep storyteller; he is a poet and an artist.
Could you please tell the chords during the sax break?
The music I have doesn't cover that part.
@logosthedestroyer Ah ! ok :-)
and the Dutch is your own or the translater's ? :-))
Anyway, nice sound and well played. I wish to play like that some day, but i have just started with my keyboard
Any idea why Becker & Fagen ignored this fan favorite in concert?
terrific version - just tried to replicate it
I would if I had the time CTruman, unfortunately I have my dissertation (in history lol) to get done this month but maybe after that! The thing is the 'chords' and tune are the same in this, so just giving the chords might not be much help. Thanks for the offer on peg though!

Haha thanks :D
Actually... I'm just about to put one up :)
plays with the hands og god.
I doubt that
From what I gather, Walter is more a psychological counterbalance to Fagen
@Darwinknows Sent you a message.. check your inbox!

@logosthedestroyer Extremely picky listener?
@vanhalen5150z Hi, I have emailed you
maroon 5
Hmm to be honest I think all the solo Becker stuff is pretty awful! sorry :D
