Eren has never been a villain...He has the Founding Titan which also helps him to look into the future...He has seen it and he knows there is no other way... If u read manga (spolilers ahead).... U will know finally making himself look like villain he brought all Marlyeans and Eldians together to fight with him. He told Mikasa and Armin that he hates both of them since they were kids just so that Mikasa could hate him and kill him at final war and show the world that one Eldian has killed Eren and saved the world. After suffering for ages under oppressive Eldian rule, finally the Marleyans rise up and with the help of a few titans who are also tired of the tyrannical rule and establish a new empire. The defeated Eldians and the King retreat to a nearby island, where they constantly pose a threat; so, the Marleyans turn Eldian criminals into mindless beasts to make sure no Eldians leave and attack the mainland. The remaining Eldians atone for their sins in Marley, where they're still treated better than anywhere else and are even allowed to participate in the military and gain honorary citizenship. 4 of the Marleyan titans risk their own lives bravely to enter Paradis Island to retrieve the Coordinate and make sure that the constant threat of the Eldians is limited. Years later, this giant titan suddenly appears in the middle of the assembly of pretty much all the nations around the world, eats one of the representatives of Marley, wrecks havoc, kills children, and eats another one of the titan protectors of Marley... easy to see a drastically different story happening

"Why can't they live a normal life outside the walls" is what he always thought. Why do they have to live in a life of danger, where you can be eaten by mindless humans roaming around with pain and sorrow. All these says that, Eren is no fucking villain. He is still the mc and still the hero. He is protect peoples he loves. It's just that, no hero is a hero in everyone's point of view. The hero is always the villain in the eyes of the villains. There was no good/bad on aot and it's just that Eren just wants what was taken away from him and his friends. He is doing all these in order to protect his friends not just because of freedom, his freedom is to live peacefully without any fear with his friends and peoples he loves, forever. Imagine you being on his point of view. Imagine that only you can save peoples near you and peoples you know, but in order to do that you need to kill everyone else around the world who are trying to kill peoples who you hold dear.

bro the latest chapter is something else, but i think u really see how he just wanted to protect everyone not from the titans then and there but forever, he put everything down and made sacrifices to have all the blood on his hands for everyone because he knew how it needed to end. He knew he had to be the bad guy because then history would keep repeating itself, i personally think his character development shows how much he really cares for his friends and people from his pasta and how hes wiling to "keep moving forward" for their futures. spoiler: You see in the latest chapters that he pushed everyone who cared about him away to protect them from what needed to happen especially mikasa eren would've not done everything and spent his last 4 years with mikasa if she had told him how she really felt because he knew all along but wanted to hear it from her.

Eren is always been his self and never change since kid which is always pursuing his freedom. He even kill someone as they try to steal his freedom as he was kid. He not a villian or a hero. He said whoever try to steal his freedom, he will steal their which is obviously the entire world. He never change even once!
Erens theme is freedom, which can be simple if not written good bullet attack on Titan, takes what this character is about and uses it so well in the story, and when it comes to this, Eren might be one of the best characters of the show.
