I think we are still way too early to see heavy traffic for these types of games. The technology still has a ways to go to reach anything close to the potential that these types of games have to offer, and to become cheap enough for the mainstream to be able to afford. VR headsets are still too bulky for most people to be comfortable using them, and graphics still have a lot of room to grow. I'm sure in the future though some of these games will be extraordinarily fun once tons of people are playing them, and also very profitable too. I would like to see first world governments get involved in creating and implementing things like this for universal basic income to make up for all the jobs lost to automation and such.
I agree, it is super super early. It will be interesting to see how it evolves over the next five years. If you look at the popularity of VRChat, RecRoom amongst others you can see that social spaces work well, so naturally an even bigger, user controlled world seems like natural progession. T
