Great Lakes Central Continuous Welded Rail Train March 21, 2020

- A rare sight on GLC to be sure!!
GLC crews picked up a continuous welded rail train from CSX in Howell, Michigan on the morning of March 21, 2020. I managed to catch this rare move at Ithaca, Alma, Mt Pleasant, and Clare, where the train tied down for the day. The rail will apparently be used to upgrade the line between Clare and Lake George.

Great catch there has been some welded rail laying along the tracks from osmer siding north to as far as I can see down north of north territorial in Whitmore lake been sitting there for a year now

there is also a few pieces north of there, specifically , just north of Chilson Road, in Hamburg Township. Its been there since last year also. Probably dropped off the same time. One of the pieces rolled down into the weeds and is going to be buried under the vegetation soon

What sections of track have been replaced or upgraded recently?
Zach Wilkinson Owosso to Ashley was upgraded with welded rail last year. The RR also worked on and upgraded various segments all the way up to Clare. That’s why the ONTN job ran 2nd shift all 2019 summer/fall.
Are trains still going to come (Owasso to Clare) and if you keep going up the tracks east of the bridge in Mt.Pleasant that there is a old road that is where I make my vids
Dalek Ling Yes, Owosso to Clare trains will absolutely still be running. Even if the Cadillac crew can’t get to Clare by day (because of track work), they can still travel at night. That is what the Owosso/Clare turn had to do last year during track work season.
