Melissa, your information and video quality are so good, but I want to focus on your excellent speaking voice. Your voice is pleasant, not too high, squeaky, or nasal. Your conversational style is very easy to listen to without the issues so many young female UA-camrs have (nasal fry, upspeak, the famous monotone with a sing-song habit) and you don't say "like" every other word. You sound very intelligent. 👍

Anything drink that is carbonated has carbonic acid in it. Carbonic acid will leach calcium from your bones which could create kidney stones. Giving up all beverages that contains carbonic acid (fizzes) was surprisingly easy for me and I don't miss it. If you have ever had a kidney stone(s) it doesn't take much effort to give up the soda pop.

I'm so glad I found your channel! I started keto in January of 2019 because I needed to control diabetes that had caused heart disease and I had been obese for more than 20 years. I had learned all about the American Diabetes Association guidelines and the American Heart Association guidelines when i was a teenager because I went to Dr appointments with my mom. Following these guidelines since I was 16 years old (plus working out 15-20 hours per week) I gained weight, was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 32, had several heart attacks over a 5 month period(I thought I was having anxiety attacks) and a triple bypass 6 weeks before my 41st birthday. At the age of 43 I learned about keto and within 6 weeks I had weened myself off of 4 insulin shots a day to none. I was able to wean myself off of 4 heart/blood pressure medications within 6 months and I've lost 75 pounds and kept it off. Over the last 3 years I've learned that food c as n be our medicine or our poison. I have a passion to learn about the science of nutrition, and not from the mainstream. It's not "the health care system" it's the sick care system, there is no money to be made off of healthy people. I'm still mostly keto, but now I'm incorporating some fruits like dates, figs, kiwi, apples sparingly. I've recently started growing my own stevia and I'm creating a food oasis in the southern California desert, my number 1 food source is the moringa tree. Oh, and the best food to fight cancer is non gmo organic broccoli sprouts, very easy to and very affordable to grow your own sprouts. I'm so glad you've been able to heal yourself. My beloved was diagnosed with fourth stage esophageal cancer and she goibg through chemotherapy but she has accepted the terminal label of that diagnosis. I was trying to encourage her to eat certain foods and avoid others, but she has asked me to respect her choices and to stop giving her my recommendations. I believe food and fasting can heal nearly everyone of most everything. I'll definitely be watching your videos, I'm sure I can learn something and hopefully I'll make a positive impact on those around me. I wish I could've learned all of this when I was a teenager and share this with my mom.

I eat the same things you mentioned in this video. I changed my diet this year, and I have noticed a HUGE change in my body and health. I make everything from scratch, with basic organic foods as much as possible. I seen Jiff peanut butter in your cabinet. Be careful, it has the bad toxic oils in it. I buy the organic peanut butter that you have to stir. All it has is organic peanuts and salt. DO NOT get the no stir, because it has bad oils in it too. I was suffering from inflamation in my body, and it took me years to figure out what it was. It was the processed oils. I ONLY buy foods that do not have bad oils. I read EVERY label and if there is anything besides, oilve, avacodo, or coconut oils, it goes back on the shelf!
Also, NO SUGAR! Yes, even zero sugar drinks have toxic fake sugar. Folgers Coffee bothers my dads stomach too!
I am so happy you have changed your diet for the good! Let food be your medicine. :))

Melissa I’m so glad you shared all of these videos regarding your health journey. I was 28 when I started having liver and gallbladder issues along with multiple uterine tumors and I, too, went down the rabbit hole starting with my kitchen and moved on to every aspect of my life. I’ve just now started my first garden from seed (I was doing the occasion started plant) but I’ve been working on homemade laundry soap, skin care, organic food ingredients, super foods, etc For years. I love hearing the story of others... it makes me feel not so alone and also inspires me to keep learning. Thanks and love, Marissa

    I love your videos.
When I started on this health and gut healing journey, about 4 years ago, I did a lot of swaps "under the table".
I swapped soy sauce for coconut aminos, soy based condiments, including mayo, for avocado or olive oil based, when not making them from scratch.
Nobody knew the difference until a few years later when I revealed the truth.
    By then they didn't care.
The sugar my husband used in his coffee was a bit more noticeable, so I started mixing a little of the organic cane sugar with the white, until it was all the organic.
He only made one comment about the color, but when I explained what I had done, he was okay with it.
    Now I don't think he'd go back.
I've always used butter and lard, but I did use canola oil for some baking, but that was an easy swap to the liquid coconut oil.
Thanks for all your hard work and great information.

I was diagnosed with Barrett’s Esophagus and esophageal pre-cancer at 30 years old. As a female who has never smoked and wasn’t middle aged I was way outside the norm. I didn’t have regular reflux. I made numerous trips to ER for pain before I found out I had two perforated ulcers & one was eating into my spleen. I will be on acid reflux meds for the rest of my life and have annual biopsies. I had H. Pylori and no medicine would get rid of it until I took an FDA “Black Box Label” drug that is known to cause cancer & caused hearing loss. I’m 49 now & have had hearing aids for 10 years. With all that not one doctor addressed changing to foods with healthier ingredients, rather just cut down on acids. There was not a lot of information available or the information changed from source to source. I’m impressed with this video and I’m going to look deeper into your information. I honestly just threw my hands up & quit trying ten years ago. I found you searching for gardening/homesteading info so it was a nice surprise to read the description of this video and see that you were dealing with a similar issue.

I have to go back about every 4 months to get one test done or another changing my eating habits has really changed my life. Growing my own tomatoes and making my own tomato sauce is the difference between being able to enjoy tomatoes and not enjoying them. I hope that you continue to stay healthy and once again thank you for sharing your story

Eating from my garden and picking up a few things to complete meals has been the best time I've had eating since Grandma sat me down and feed me with all that love 💕

I have had some serious problems myself these past 10 years with my pancreas. I was eating horrible, drinking cokes, sprites, and eating burgers and fries like every other person who eats poorly. Dr's kept saying they cannot find anything wrong with or why it was shutting down on me. About 3 years ago I stopped eating nearly everything but fruits nuts and veggies and as much as possible organic. Its killing me in cost so I started growing some things a few years ago and now trying to grow more of everything this year I can to stay away from the stores. Its impossible to cut it all out, but it has changed my life for the better in many ways. Since switching my diet, my pancreas has not shut down again. BUt your videos and others on You Tube has helped me in many ways to go towards that lifestyle. Thank you!

From a purely medical point of view it makes total sense to me . A lot of what you have done is eliminate free radicals from your diet which are pre cancerous. My husband had Barretts esophagus and I have GERD plus retired from 40 years in Radiology so I really understand the science behind what you are saying . I am not as far along as you are in my changes but it’s a journey . Very good sound information. Thank you for sharing. One thing we really like is organic raw milk . But it is hard to come by here in SC . I do find it occasionally.

Wow. Just a couple of minutes in and so far, I greatly approve of it. I have been removing additives for over a decade. I was 'diagnosed' with IBS because they couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. My personal opinion was that the diagnosis was a copout and, after moving in with a 'food nazi', we slowly began to figure out what was messing with my intestines. I would really love to talk with you about your journey sometime. I want to make videos about it, eventually, but things have been crazy in my life for the last several years. Kudos to you!!! Long story short, it wasn't IBS, it was food additives.

YES! this video is awesome. I think people have a stigma of healthy has to taste bad and that just isnt true anymore. My wife and I started making kitchen swaps a little over a year ago, some of the things listed here. I started saving bacon grease, ditched margarine and went back to butter, only have avocado and olive oil in the pantry, we started making our own avocado mayo and after a few tries, got it nailed down to where my 4 and 6 year old children cant tell the difference from store bought. after the great bread shortage of 2020, i started making sandwich bread from scratch and my kids now eat it like its the norm. little things, done over time can make a big difference.
Just recently found your channel and im looking forward to watching more.

I get a bad headache for a few days from tea or chocolate. Black tea or green tea. They contain theobromine and theophylline which I believe is the culprit. It also makes me liable to vicious temper outbursts when stressed, but you might not have the primal pain from childhood that I have so then you might not get this additional reaction.

I was diagnosed with esophageal cancer about 6 years ago and I've been modifying the foods that I buy to consume at home for a while about 5 months ago I stopped by anything with natural flavorings in it. Let's be honest anything that says natural flavorings is anything but natural. That is about 90% of everything that's on the shelves at the grocery store. Like you I bake my own bread make my own tomato sauce and I don't buy anything that's process no package food everything's made from scratch. It was just nice and refreshing to see that there are like-minded people out there. Sometimes I feel like I'm on an island. Anyway thank you for your videos looking forward to viewing more of your videos in the near future.

I recommend an elimination diet if you can. Slowly reintroduce allergens that were cut out after 30 days one at a time.
I did this when pregnant after sneezing 25 times in a row after eating pizza. Turns out I was allergic to wheat, soy, corn, and coconut (which I already knew about). I get major headaches and fatigue if I eat wheat, soy, or corn (I don’t think it’s a coincidence that I’m allergic to the modified crops).
It’s not a severe allergy like coconut but I never get food coma now even though I’m full. My skin doesn’t break out anymore too (I used to get cystic acne).
Figuring out what you’re allergic to/sensitive to makes a huge difference.

Hi Mrs. Melissa! I just got on here to see if there were any new videos! Yay! Can’t wait to make some more swaps! (I’ve already learned so many and have swapped over from your other videos and books). Already transferring from crisco (😳) to non hydrogenated, grass fed (with supplemental feeding) lard! I’m sooo excited and ready to learn to render. What’s amazing is my local butcher doesn’t sell lard. BUT. They trade. So I can bake them up some treats in return for some fat to render. What an amazing blessing. The cost of good lard was a bit above my budget but this was a huge blessing from God. He is so good. God bless! Have a lovely day!

Hi Melissa, Good for you in changing out quite a number of triggering foods and healing yourself (and others who follow you too, no doubt). I've given up wheat, dairy and soy altogether, in order to eliminate foods that cause inflammation in the body. I like your jam recipes, but will not use the amount of sugar they call for. Instead, I use honey, maple syrup, and other sweeteners from natural sources that don't spike blood sugar. I've found so many coconut products that I use instead of dairy: coconut milk, cream cheese, and slices. Instead of soy sauce, I use Aminos instead. I've also had to give up a lot of Chinese vegetables that aren't locally grown or from my garden, as they are GMO and heavily sprayed with chemicals. Toxic chemical sprays are on so many foodstuffs, I've learned to dig down deep for the source of where, by whom, how, and so on foods are grown.
Like you, I had to drop a number of triggering foods from my life and I am healthier for it. As one matures, how we eat and what we put into our bodies has to alter as well, as our metabolism shifts and our lifestyle changes. I'm far more active now than I was years ago and am so grateful that I had expert help in detecting the food challenges I had. Going off all dairy was hard, but it saved my life, so I was very motivated.

This is exactly what I am trying to do, convert to a traditional kitchen. I have had some remarkable results so far having suffered from IBS and diabetes among other problems. Two things that seemed to be greatly helped with the foods and drinks you are talking about. You are right. The family and friends are rather reluctant to accept any "strange changes" in recipes so I have forged along on my own. I am very happy with my results and will keep ploughing ahead with my health recipes. I am so glad people like you are on you tube giving your opinions and advice on this matter. Although I have great respect of the medical profession and what they do sometimes we can fix our health problems by just eating and drinking better and paying attention to what we are putting into our bodies rather than consuming hundreds of pills on a monthly basis.. Thank you for sharing.

Hey great video. I just wanted to tell you about olive oil. If the olive oil you're buying doesn't have the acidity listed, (I believe it has to be . 01% but you might want to double check that number), it can be cut with a lesser quality oil. The olive oil industry is very corrupt and some brands of olive oil have even been tested and shown to contain inedible lamp oil! So definitely try to source an olive oil with the acidity listed as its the o ly way to ensure its a quality one. Unfortunately my Costco stopped carrying the one I buy but I can still find one at my local grocery store. Cheers to healing our bodies and souls.

Melissa, try using 1/2 butter and 1/2 Kirkland brand Coconut oil in your brownies. You will taste the coconut a little, but to me it is a plus instead of a minus. I add about 1/2 c. sliced pecans sprinkled over the top of an 8" square brownie pan. Everyone loves these brownies at our house! Less cholesterol than "all butter" and taste better and have that wonderful chewy brownie taste. For cake brownies and less fat, substitute 1 small 4 oz individual container of "Tree Top unsweetened organic applesauce instead of the coconut oil. Yes that is 1/2 c. applesauce instead of 3/4 c., so the brownies are still kind of chewy. Here's my "Deep Dish Brownies" recipe: (Note: I double this recipe and make 2 8" square pans, as it's easier to substitute on the fat that way. I also, beat the eggs in a small bowl before adding them to the rest of the mixture on the stove. Then I stir everything together then pour everything into my mixer and finish mixing it for a few minutes on stir setting, just till thoroughly blended. Either way works fine, but do not overbeat!) 3/4 c. butter, 1 1/2 c. sugar, 1 1 /2 t. vanilla, 3 eggs, 3/4 c. flour, 1/2 c. cocoa, 1/2 t. baking powder, 1/2 t. salt, 1/2 c. chopped nuts hand sliced crosswise pecans are best, but you can use walnuts that are broken up by hand if you prefer. Melt butter in a sauce pan big enough to mix up the whole recipe. Blend butter, sugar, and vanilla. Add eggs and beat well with a wooden spoon. Add flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Mix well. Pour into greased (I use coconut oil) 8" pan. Sprinkle nuts on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes. Cool and cut into squares. Cut each pan into 9 or 16 brownies, depending on if you want small or large serving size brownies. Enjoy!
