This song was unironically used to educate the rural regions of China who doesnt have access to education and so are illiterate. Many songs were designed to explain communism and its achievements to these rural people, which drove a lot more people to associate themselves with communism.
If I ever make a musical about the formation of the CPC, I would put in a scene in the script where the communist soldiers go to a rural village and try to educate the villagers. Then this song would play, the soldiers would sing, and the villagers would dance along with the soldiers.
Because in the old society (era of the Republic of China), the majority of peasants did not have the right to receive education, most of the pariahs did not understand the language, the country was divided, the local warlords were rising, the economic situation was severe, And the Communist Party's land struggle violated the interests of local officials, so the ROC sent troops to bloody suppress the people
China was a military dictatorship under the Chiang regime; Taiwan continued to be one as well, until Chiang died and his successor turned ROC into democracy AFAIK. China has democracy through councils going from local, regional, national, and supreme in a similar way to Cuba and USSR. You also will get imprisoned if you lobby politicians to corrupt democracy. PRC was much more democratic and was structured differently to the Soviet model with Mass Line. Cultural Revolution also made the masses go against the Party with Mao siding against the party too; this combatted bureaucracy and helped rural areas. It also was extremely spontaneous and quite bad for urban areas, which was not most of China back then. Dongping Han wrote on this. Education, healthcare, and food were exported more to the rural areas which vastly improved agriculture. In the civil war the Communist party helped out the masses of peasants and villagers, as it was led by that class. Edgar Snow wrote on this.
It is making me very happy, when I think that China, Vietnam and Cuba have this proletarian tradition continued and are still existing today. There's a lot of history in these countries which still lives in these countries. Russia has also a great history, but the proletarian country don't exist anymore. China, Vietnam and Cuba are the only hope in this world that there is a good alternative to this barbaric system of capitalism.

There are still many problems in China, but I prefer the Communist Party to fix these problems than a taiwanese, japanese or south korean government. This government in China is the most effective one. They are advancing with their people, not like many other so-called "democratic" countries like Germany. I can say you that in China more people are interested in politics than in the western countries. I can say you, that poverty eradication, the distributions of technology to all the people, the use of renewable energy technology, social programs and agendas are the priorities. It may not be a democratic government in terms of voting for parties or candidates, but it is democratic in terms of serving the people, for the people. Only the "by the people" must be developed in this political system. I know that you will disagree, and I think a discussion is useless. In the west, people have their opinions and they cannot change them, or rather very rarely. So, have a good life!

I don’t like Mao and disagree with lots of his policies, but I’d be a fool to deny the accomplishments of him and his party. China today is truly an enigma. I don’t like Mao and disagree with lots of his policies, but I’d be a fool to deny the accomplishments of him and his party. China today is truly an enigma.
