The reason for the post (on the side of IG-88's head) being on the other side, could be because the photo images used for the cards were sometimes flipped. Have a look at Dengar's card - Boba Fett's range finder is on the wrong side of his helmet. I think Bossk was the very first figure to be released from the first wave of EMPIRE figures (as a mail-away offer). Boba Fett, of course, was released in 1979 as the last figure on the "STAR WARS" card back. IG's an excellent figure. Got him in 1982. The shiny silver-coloured, hollow-eyed variant of the 1980 figure is even more impressive.
The Mission 2 pack with Bossk and IG-88 -where Bossk is huge and IG is dainty is a particularly embarrassing chapter from Star Wars figure history. I don’t know what genius they put in charge of this, or why no one else challenged the measurements because LOTS of people should have known..Anyway, the heights for the Bounty Hunters suddenly changed around this time…drastically. IG-88 was suddenly shorter than ever, like a regular human sized protocol droid! Bossk suddenly became HUGE. The other hunters more or less changed slightly but not nearly the extreme of these two. The reason? Someone decided once and for all to get a definitive relative scale of the Bounty Hunter heights. They used the famous photo from Empire with all the Bounty Hunters lined up on the bridge and then measured them - ta da! Accurate and with receipts, no one could deny the accuracy! …except the dork who did this apparently couldn’t comprehend such staggeringly difficult concepts as a droid standing a couple feet *behind* everyone else AND DOWN a couple steps will *look* shorter in a 2-D picture compared to a subject closer to the camera! And by the same but opposite concept, Bossk was standing a couple feet in *front* of everyone else, toeing the edge of the sunken work area…and thus he appeared larger relative to the others because he was *closer to the camera*! They even used these measurements for the Black Series IG-88 explaining why he is such a godawful flimsy piece of crap. Compare him (or the black series IG-11) to Figuarts or Mafex’s IG-11…zero comparison. Like R2, Hasbro’s scale is totally and completely effed up, and I can’t believe these figures made it past whatever true fans they must surely run these things by, since the people in charge apparently don’t understand very basic visual parallax and apparent size concepts! Even Wookiepedia had the incorrect heights, maybe they still do for the Bounty Hunters. Someone either finally caught this or just listened finally to the fans who had been b!tchkng about these inane errors from the start. Funny how no one at Figuarts, or Mafex was confused by basic principles of standing closer to the camera makes you look bigger/standing further away makes you look smaller. Seriously, it’s just freaking embarrassing. :-) great vid - have LOVED IG-88 since I was a kid and have always felt the original Kenner figure was easily one of the best IG reps EVER! :-)
Love that original IG-88 as well. I was blown away as a kid to see these Robot Action figures. It would be great to see them update IG-88 just like they did with the Mando IG-11. That figure is amazing in detail and articulation.
Hey Social! I’ve been watching your vids for a long time now and collect myself! I have a 1980 ig 88 in great condition like yours but I’m missing the two blue blasters ☹️ is there anyway you can help me get the two? I’d really appreciate it thank you!
Thank you for the positive feedback HG! I was lucky enough to get the weapons for ig88. Your best bet is attending a Toy Expo and searching there. There are many helpful starwars fans that will guide you. I suggest getting the figure (loose complete) with weapons in hand as that is more likely than anyone selling the weapons only.
Cool bounty hunter IG 88

So the saga one is the Best?
Yes, the VOTC one is the best to date. I can see them using the IG-11 Sculpt and making a new IG-88.
The definitive version of IG88 Which is the saga collection The holster on the back of the bandalier It's 4 his hand blaster Not the rifle blaster
