2. Condenser: The condenser is located at the front of the car, usually in front of the radiator. It acts as a heat exchanger, dissipating heat from the compressed refrigerant and causing it to condense into a high-pressure liquid.
3. Expansion Valve or Orifice Tube: The expansion valve (or sometimes an orifice tube) is a small device that regulates the flow of refrigerant into the evaporator. It reduces the pressure and temperature of the refrigerant, allowing it to expand rapidly.
4. Evaporator: The evaporator is typically located inside the dashboard or under the passenger compartment. It receives the low-pressure, liquid refrigerant from the expansion valve, and as the warm air from the cabin passes over the evaporator's fins, the refrigerant evaporates, absorbing heat from the surrounding air.
5. Blower Fan: The blower fan is responsible for drawing air from the cabin and forcing it over the evaporator, where it is cooled. The cooled air is then distributed back into the car through the vents.
6. Refrigerant: The AC system uses a refrigerant (such as R134a or the newer R1234yf) that circulates through the system, changing from a high-pressure gas to a low-pressure liquid and back again. It undergoes this transformation as it absorbs heat from the cabin air and releases it to the outside environment.
To use the car's AC system, you typically need to turn it on using the controls on the dashboard. This activates the compressor, which starts circulating the refrigerant and engaging the rest of the system. The controls allow you to adjust the fan speed, temperature, and air distribution to suit your preferences.
