I just checked my mom’s wedding sarees are all original. I always used to wonder why the wrong side of the saree is like this and used to tell mumma that nanaji got looted , these are defective sarees 😂😂😂😂
Hey Malvika, I just watched the video after seeing your comments. Actually you are correct. When I was creating and editing the video I didn't realise it. I will keep this in my mind for the future videos. Thank you so much for the feed back. It's very helpful 😃
power-loom's main intention is to copy the craft as close as possible to the original one. That will easily dupe the people and give them lot of profits by putting in very less efforts. Today when you are saying "power loom also comes with same type of motifs" that means power loom has taken over the craft. That is the reason I create these kind of videos to give some useful ideas to identify the original craft. It is getting difficult by the day. Everyone need to take conscious efforts to keep the craft alive.
Arpita ye sab to aajkal fake sadis me bhi aate hi .......kuch aur tips u hv to say .......after meetings sm weavers or ...aapko do saadis me comparision karke dikhana chahiye
I did, and one seems like a mixture of cutwork bhutas but the other, am not sure if it is the meenakari style or kadwa style. im not too strong on the weaving techniques just yet.
It will not and it should not. The thread is woven in very tight form. It should not loosen. If it looses the threads that way, it will never get so famous. These sarees are meant to last for generations... I saw some sarees in museums which are more than 500yrs old..
Mam i here to ask a question.... I will be really Greatful if u answer me... If any website claim that they have silkmark india certificate, silk authority certificate, handloom in asia certificate... Is this site trustable for us (pure handloom).... M talking about bharatsthali. ... Plz reply me
I would suggest you to go directly to buy a silk saree than buying online. These certificates can be seen in the shop. They give some authentication for sure. Remember the tips mentioned in the video while going for silk saree shopping.
The silk marks gi & ip are introduced recently not in 80s... how to know it’s purity of handwoven since the sarees belong to my nani she purchased silks Banarasis in 50s which u hold one and 2 chiffon banarasis which are handwoven as per my mom....I m saying all this cause u said authentic Banarasi handwoven sarees are done in cotton & silk only!!!!!! I think the chiffons ones are original since the back has bumpy lumps of silver threads!!!!
When these sarees are from 50s, the chances are it is pure silk. Chiffon fabric got in use around 1930s and it was made of fine silk in those days. Regular chiffon is little difficult to handle as it is slippery. As you mentioned it has silver bumpy texture again it's a possibility of pure Banarasi. Now I'm wondering how your family kept it so safe for so many years. This also shows the durability of pure material. Keep them careful, they have good history 😊
Lavanya, today's video is for you 😃 Did you get to watch? Here's the link : ua-cam.com/video/IbwtFaA13mE/v-deo.html if u find it helpful, share the video with your friends
I agree - the cost is not a way to tell. There are some companies charging very high unreasonable prices and the sarees are fake. Another company is charing less and it is genuine. Cost is not the issue - the other points are valid.
Mam with all respect to you i can say your knowledge is superficial. Starting from opoosite side identification till price judgement. Please dig down deep it will be a help for handloom heritage
If you have any more points to add than what I explained, please mention it here. That will help others who read your comment. You telling me that I didn't do a good job is not helping anyone. I prefer helping others. Thank you. I will wait for your inputs on Banarasi silk sarees.
1. Banarasi should use 20/22 or 18/20 silk ,2 ply by 3/4ply silk. Generally the price of that silk yarn from sidlagatta is 4200-4800 per kg and with wastage you need at least 650gms so the raw yarn price is at least 2730. After that cost of dyeing, loom fixing, jacquard designing, weaving and finishing and of cource the cost of zari. So a banarasi silk saree having zari work can’t be less than 9k(I can even explain you in more detail) 2. Opposite side can also be smooth if it has taken extra weft hand turning technique. Original chanderi use such technique so the backside of chanderi is extremely smooth. 3. Plain patch of silk on the end of pallu can also be done on power loom so its not also the identify original banarasi. 4. Whatever pattern you suggested as a sign of original banarasi is also carried by fake power loom polyester sarees. My humble request to you please revise the video to support end users to save handloom heritage of banaras. Thanks. No offence
No offence taken 😊 I need this kind of constructive comments under the video. That will help viewers to understand deeper information. I did this video for the viewers who do not understand 2ply,3ply or warp, weft. They wouldn't understand how to check the weight of the zari in a saree. They are the people who just go to buy a saree from any shop. Coming to motifs, now a days everything can be copied and a get a stamp of original craft. My whole point of showing the motifs is to give them a basic idea on what they are. I have seen sellers who show any random design and say it is original. The points which I've mentioned will all go together. For the viewers who want to know more details, you have given great information here. Thank you so much. This is very helpful 😃
That 2 ply is for you to that you are even wrong about price and i corrected you identification of weaving technique... Its always better to let pleople know how to idrntify silk instade of such corrupt cirtification . Am folding my hands to tell you please be correct next time
Hi, is it possible to contact you about this issue. I believe I have received a fake banaras saree from a so-called luxury online company. Please let me know if I can DM/email/call you.
Hi! I got few banarasi sarees as gifts for wedding.. The designs look Mughal and rich. But the feel of the saree is satin. Do original banarasi sarees also come in satin ?
Original sarees are not made in satin. Sorry. Satin is a man made fabric. These sarees are supposed to be hand made and natural. You can realise the good silk and good zari of the saree by the weight of it. Real zari will have cold feel to it.
Bakwassss ... your listeners would be prone to be easily affected by cheaters in the market. Even, by using your tips you would not be able to get the pure, leave the viewers.✋✋✋🙏🙏🙏
Ha ha ha.... it's very difficult to stop me from talking.. it's my nature. I understand how you wish the video be on point.. Doea the inverse side of banarasi saree sheds thread?
It will not and it should not. The thread is woven in very tight form. It should not loosen. If it looses the threads that way, it will never get so famous. These sarees are meant to last for generations... I saw some sarees in museums which are more than 500yrs old..

Take some threads out from the end of the sari and burn it if it smells same as that of our burnt hair then the silk is natural
