    Really excited about the upcoming window and door builds! I'm definitely interested in learning how to make high quality, long lasting doors and windows. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.

      Thank you for the words of encouragement. The doors will be a bit yet, but I'm actually starting a video soon on making some super simple windows for the machine shed so stay tuned for that!

      Thanks Frank, I'm like a kid at Christmas. I am planning on being tired a lot, but that's ok.

      Thank you! I see your UA-cam channel is growing. You'll have to do a longer video of some sash work....I'd love to see it.

    I am always amazed at the almost lack of a sap ring on black locust, no wonder it won't rot, its almost all heart wood. I take it you don't draw bore your holes.

      This is my first real experience with it. First impressions are that it smells terrible when milling, but it's kinda legendary for peg stock so I'm looking forward to driving some home.

    Thanks for sharing Brent. I think I may have the same supplier for pegs, lol. Just putting my order in with whitehill for some cutter heads and knifes. Was wondering if you used their 25mm knifes or did they cut you one with 25.4mm so that it would be a proper fit with your white owl auger bit? I was thinking of using my combi head 125x55 to use this (25mm Dia (R12.5) Dowel Profile Cutter in HSS Code 003H01360) and was wondering if this might work instead of using the Nosing Head? Thanks for your time.

      Hey Glen! Lots of folks use HSS knives in a limiter block and will get loads of linear feet out of them before they dull. The wood owl bits come in many denominations I discovered the hard way, so double check exactly what yours are and Whitehill should have one that suits yours. They are often 25mm I've found. The nosing heads have a run off angle that means they are not actually a perfect half circle. I had tips made special for the nosing head that are indeed a perfect half circle and they work very well. Honestly the nosing heads are cheap and if you plan on doing a lot of pegs it's probably the better way to go IMO. If you decide to go with the nosing head let me know and I can supply the file reference for the custom tips.

      Thanks for the response Brent, If the file reference for the custom blades are available, I would really like to get a copy, would be much appreciated.

      @@glenp3808 The product # (as best I can tell) is 122902 and the tip number is 34061. You want to make sure the geometry is a full half circle so worth double checking that this is the case. Mention my name and it may help them track it down if needed.

    Not quite sure how the machine works? Do you just pass the dowel through twice, rounding over two sides?

    • @DovetailTimberworks
      @DovetailTimberworks  Рік тому

      You got it! It basically cuts 180 degrees of a circle on each pass. They go in a little bigger that 1" x 1" and come out a perfect 1" diameter dowel/peg.

    Soooo, I'm assuming you aren't a fan of hexagon pegs? I'm a newbie and hexagon pegs just make so much sense to me but there must be a reason why they really aren't a thing in the industry.

      I really don't have much of a preference, though I've heard the arguments for both. Round form pegs are easy to produce quickly in large volumes which means I don't have to spend much time on it.
