I have used the OM4 for the past year and love it. Didn't think it could get better. OM5 proves me wrong! Your walk-through was spot on, as usual. I was betting the "Hi 5" email I received had to be the OM5 and was anxiously waiting for the release. Gotta get an OM5. I thought the DJI Mini 2 was a great move but this is also a game-changer! Would be great for my upcoming trip to Playa del Carmen!

The OM4 has A LOT BETTER battery runtime, not much of a thing, but still, especially considering you can charge your phone with it. But the main thing is: the tilt range at OM5 is POOR AF! The OM4 wasnt really great at tilt, but still MUCH BETTER than the OM5 ever could be.
Amazing video! The selfie stick or the lack there of all other gimbals is the reason that I haven’t purchased up till now. Another reviewer said you couldn’t switch from front to rear camera so I have to keep searching glad I found your video it was excellent
I just got my DJI OM 5 yesterday and am loving it! I did a lot of research in terms of which gimbal would work with my iPhone 13 Pro (made the mistake of getting a Hohem iSteady+ first and it did noooot deliver) and this has been such a great improvement! I do POV walking videos and the test clips I shot today were so much better than my previous ones. DJI really delivered and your video helped me make the right decision -- thanks!!
The OM5 form factor is what sold it for me along w/ the improved clip, which appears to fit around phone cases better.. Seriously, something I can take in my pocket to shoot is going to be a plus in my book.

Thanks for the review Russ! Now I’m considering buying the OM5 after watching your review. I have the OM4 but didn’t use it as much considering I have to take my phone case off every time and would miss the shot. Very hard and annoying for me to take my phone case off. Now the OM5 seem to fix that issue with that cool light clamp! I agree that person needs a raise who designed or thought of it! Can’t wait for your software review next! Oh almost forgot, I’m looking forward to Mavic 3 or Phantom 5 the most from DJI but any DJI product is very interesting! Always like whatever they come out with (even if I can’t afford them lol).

Was going to purchase this until I read all the 1 star reviews. Apparently it is not compatible with the iPhone 13 Pro Max. People mentioned it not being powerful enough and hearing the gears as it tried to move. Guess i'll have to purchase a Ronin Gimbal. I just want to use Active Track 3.0. Since I will be shooting short films alone. I plan to upgrade to a Bmpcc 6k Pro in the future anyway.

Disappointed the motors and overall weight capacity wasn’t beefed up. Shooting with external lenses on an iPhone 12 Pro Max will still result in the same iffy performance as the OM 4. DJI stated the weight capacity a little differently, but when you compare the OM 4 and OM 5, the are essentially the same capacity. Even with counterweights, my OM 4 struggled with an anamorphic and ND filter setup. Great review, Russ.
Very helpful review, thank you. As for the best DJI product, I would say this is it(so far), but I would love to see a gimbal that could support an 11" ipad pro; something a bit more than a two handed case, but something with 3Axis.
Great review. Personally I’d like them to bring out the OM6 with availability for a microphone input. The only one I’ve seen is with the Benro 3XS Lite which I have. It means that in windier conditions, when filming with my iPhone, I can reduce wind noise with a mini dead cat on my Saramonic 3.5mm jack mic. This is is plugged directly into the top of the gimbal handle with a cable cable co I got out of the phone holder which I can plug into the iPhone. I’m stunned DJI haven’t done this yet to assist “phone only” vloggers.
I would assume, that there is proprietary tech to ensure that the motor noise doesn’t bleed over into the mic. Seen a couple gimbals have this problem.

Thanks Russ great review. DJI have really come a long way with their hand held gimbles. I have the OM2 but never use it because it is just too big and bulky the OM5 might just be the way to go.
not if you want to do faster/more sportive stuff! I got the OM5, needed to get for skateboarding and more tracking headroom (bcause of OM5s VERY VERY POOR tilt!) another gimbal with enough room to move. At first i had a 2nd hand OM4, which was at least MUCH BETTER than the OM5, but then i got a cheap chinese one for this type of videos (in combination with my old phone a combo i can "waste" in case of an accident) The OM5 is just fine if you are ok with a very limited tilt (you can also adjust manually at least) so its basically a nice gimbal for casual/vlogger use. If its worth the extra money compared to other gimbals... i dont really think so (EVERY other gimbal has better movement, especially tilt!) I still own the OM5 (bcause of convenience), but even when i need a selfie stick for skateboarding, i better use my el cheapo ZHIJUN gimbal with a monopod as extension rod (which can be even longer than the OM5s telescope rod ofc) I personally would love a modernized OM3/OM4, but without the OM5s disadvantages over the OM3/4.... The smaller battery isnt really a problem, but the very limited movement and the problem with 220g+ phones makes the OM5 somehow a bad deal
I was seriously thinking on getting this gimble coming from a OM 4 but then I saw a video on the Zhiyun Smooth 5. Wow, that gimble runs circles around the DJI model. You should check that one out as well.
They differ in design, and there are advantage and disadvantages to each. For example, the Smooth 5 doesn't offer the extension arm. A very useful feature for some folks.
You always do great, thorough videos but DJI needs to pay you for this one and make this their commercial for the product. Nicely done! Will you be comparing this to other brands like the Zhiyun Smooth Q3 or is there any comparison in your opinion?

He misses out (intentionally?!) some facts which you only read in "unpaid" reviews like the poor tilt range, the heavy problems with iPhone 12/13 Pro Max Its still like an advertisement since i know: THE OM5 SUCKS! I mean i get it, the selfie stick function is partially useful, but the poor tilt range, the problems with phones heavier than 200g (despite their "maximum 290g"....), the pretty high price considering many 60-100$ gimbals are more or less as good (or better....) as the OM5...
I dont have any thing DJI but I have gimble with an extension rod and it’s super handy. But I like the versatility of the DJI 5. Might have to get me one…..or maybe I’ll win one 🤔🤔🤷🏽♂️

When the 4 came out I so thought that I needed it over the 3.0 ver.. so glad I waited... I TOTALLY NEED the NEW 5.0 thanks
