      Jag uppskattar dina videos väldigt mycket. Samtidigt väldigt personlig, konstruktiva och mycket musikaliska. De lär mig mycket jag inte visste, men inser är viktigt att ha ett grepp om.

    Thanks for the tip perhaps it will make it easier to play Irish folk.
    Been struggling with that ;)

      Well my opinion is that learning other styles than your main one can always help you develop your ear, your feeling and your technique... so to become better in your main style. So in that way, yes, tips about ornamentation in scandi folk music can help your develop your playing of celtic folk. Although I would recommend you to be a bit careful, as typical scandinavian ornaments are not the same ones as the typical celtic ones ;) Some are the same or similar, but some are totally different.

    Hey emilie just wondering I am new into nyckelharp playing
    Mine is a chromatic with a tuning in c g c a
    What's the benefit of turning it your way
    And what exactly is your tuneing ?

    • @EmelieWaldken
      @EmelieWaldken  6 років тому

      Hej Robin, I'm tuned as a viola : CGDA. I find it more logical (same "distance" between each string) and easier to switch from the fiddle and back, easier to adapt what I learned on one instrument to the other. Also way easier to transpose anything. But not as good for some specific stuff, like bondpolskor in C. It's a matter of habit and personal choice.

    That was great, thank you very much!
    Maybe I missed it but I think you didn't demonstrate the slide, is that even possible on the Nyckelharpa since it has keys?

    • @EmelieWaldken
      @EmelieWaldken  6 років тому

      Thanks to you ! Nope I indeed didn't demonstrate the slide, as I haven't found any possible way of doing it on a nyckelharpa ;) Except from taking the hand up on the strings and sliding directly with the fingers on the strings, but then it's not possible to just use it as an ornamentation in the melody - takes too much time to do the whole move. Have never met someone who could actually slide on a Nharpa, but perhaps it's possible... let me know if you find a way !

      I will let you know when I find a way :)
      I have been playing the Nyckelharpa for almost a year now and I really like it!
      It is my first bowed instrument and the bowing is probably the hardest thing to learn for me right now.
      I really liked the tune from your video (Slangpolska fran Barseback) so I learned it this week and recorded a video:

    I come back to this video time and time and time again. It is so useful. There is one ornament that I hear -constantly- but I don't see mentioned here. It's like a triplet added to a normal note. You can hear it clearly at 0:56 in this video: ua-cam.com/video/UMonK3nZXOQ/v-deo.html
    What is this? Does it have a name? When is it used? Is it associated with a certain region / style (I mostly listen to and play Norwegian music). Thanks for the help!

      I'm not sure, the only ornament I clearly hear where you pointed at (at 0:58 exactly) is a fast and light drill. Possibly done with more than a tone or half-tone step (like you have the first finger on the string and you drill with the third for example, instead of the second).
      If that's not what you meant, do you have another example of it ? I'm really curious now ^^
