- Kia ora! hi!
I got my dream mics!!! A stereo pair of rhode NT5's!!! They sound SO GOOD. However, I'm still working out the kinks! If I really want proper audio, I'm going to need to work out my background noise problem. Stay tuned to watch me struggle to figure that out! So, my mics are lacking a lot of the "warmth" I mention in the video because I've had to reduce it to tackle the noise. Ah well! I hope you enjoy this little mic practice anywho!

Welp, after watching this video I learned I'm not completely tingle immune. When you spoke into my left ear in this video nothing much happens but holy crap whenever you spoke into the right ear my whole right side started tingling like crazy. PLEASE keep those mics oh my god

With long enough extension cords you can have your pc out in the hallway, allowing you to record audio and visuals at the same time. Mumbo Jumbo has a setup like this to cut down on background noise.

9:49 you can EQ out the fan noise pretty easily , it’s a little distracting but if some folks like it it’s not the end of the world
You have no idea how much EQ I have on these tracks, my friend! I believe it’s through 2 7 channel EQ’s and a linear phase EQ- it’s nasty! The fans on my PC are literal jet engines, I’m just working with what I’ve got. 🧡 If I find a workaround to it, it will need a change in hardware, in my physical setup. I will work it out, thanks for your advice though!

I FEEL you about the airborne atrocities. Although for me it's airplanes since i live close to an airport. Either i wait until like 10pm to record or spend half an hour editing out/pausing recordings to avoid engines roaring on recording lmao.

I just leave your videos looping in the background when i'm doing stuff, so when i record with shadow play it has you in the background too lol...
One day i'll care enough to figure out how to make it only record a single application vs my entire system's audio.
So like, hear me out? the background noise is actually comfy to me at least, I don’t typically care for hyper-polished asmr. The whirr of HVAC or cars going by in my personal opinion makes it more immersive.

In all honesty, the PC fans in the background is oddly soothing. If at any point I zone out, the fans provide some white noise that isn't obnoxious like a lot of white noise that gets added in post.
I'm not sure if this is a bit unrelated, but have you tried doing keyboard sounds? Would love to hear some.

Ooh I do have a nice keyboard, maybe I’ll try it! My only worry is that I wonder how necessary it is for me to make content like that- ASMR is extremely oversaturated and there’s plenty of far better keyboard ASMR peeps making much better content than I could produce with my setup.
So maybe if I feel like it I’ll randomly try it, but otherwise I’m unsure! 🧡 I love your suggestion though, thank you!
I have a question
I've been trying to do some research too and I've been wondering...
What happens when you record from the blue yeti... using the trs jack?
Like, it has one you're meant to plug headphones in, but what if you record from that into a computer's mic jack using a double ended wire?
See, people have said that usb mics lack frequency range and that's what makes them sound less "warm" but the components of a standard trs aren't that different from xlr... I might just not understand the intricacies but I thought you might know since you know audio better.
I use the usb jack! And if you listen to my audio I think you’ll find it is in no way lacking warmth. A lot of people value hardware over software for what I think are pretentious reasons. Simply edit it in post with an EQ if you’re looking for warmth!
It’s easy to overthink audio processing. Remember the only thing that matters is what comes out of your headphones, the jack you use will probably have little to no effect.
