This is a great question! I chose magnesium chloride because of the effects that It has on the body (raises blood magnesium levels). This allows the body to readily use magnesium for all metabolic needs. Magnesium glycinate may be more absorbable, but has been found to have a primary calming and relaxing effect on the body. I do not need to be more relaxed throughout the day or I'll have trouble staying awake lol night time would be great to hydrate with a magnesium glycinate mix instead of the magnesium chloride. I find it very easy to fall asleep at night so I don't feel it necessary to make two separate batches for the different purposes. As far as the potassium chloride, like magnesium chloride, I use it to raise overall blood potassium levels. I found it has worked for me. I recognize that everyone is different so you have to do what you feel works best for you. As always having blood work and doing this under a medical doctor is the best advice I have so they can monitor system function while you make changes to make sure nothing goes the wrong direction on you!
@@motivationhw Thank you very much for the more detailed explanation. Many people would have just been like, "That's what I used but you can use whichever form you like." 👍🏽
Use caution with Potassium. Back in Oct of 2023 I mixed my potassium and taurine up because they are in the same shape, size and color container and I was talking too much when dispensing them. I got a 2 gram scoop of potassium instead of Taurine. It almost killed me and took about 6 weeks to recover from.
This is good advice! I will add that too much of any supplement can cause a critical state. It is important for anyone to know what their blood levels are prior to supplementation. If you don't know what the levels are, then it may be harmful to take more of something that you don't need.
I’ve been making my own electrolyte mixes for a couple of years, but I don’t use any flavor. I make it in bulk and put it in my water bottle and it tastes like….water. Sometimes I put it in my coffee, too.

Hey there! I don't know if I completely understand your question. What I did was measure out enough sodium, potassium, and magnesium to equal the amounts that LMNT has in their products. These are the important things to make sure you add, the rest should be left out (natural flavors, sugars, etc.)
@@motivationhw I guess you answered my question. I was wondering how much did you put for the sugar and natural flavour. But I guess you left that out.
I’ve tried doing this. I seem to always experience odd symptoms when attempting an LMNT alternative. To the point of frank dehydration when taking electrolyte drinks. However I don’t experience the same thing when I quickly drinking 1/4 teaspoon of salt on its own and following it up with plain water. In fact it improves my workouts like how LMNT claims it can. Idk what I’m doing wrong. I suspect it’s actually nothing to do with the drink but something else I’m doing. I read that zinc can disrupt sodium potassium balance. Been taking Thornes trace minerals with zinc in it. Gonna stop and see if I can improve my hydration.
I am definitely not an expert on this topic as there could be many different diet factors playing a role. The thoughts that come to mind are the type of supplements you are choosing to put in your DIY drink compared to what LMNT puts in theirs. I have had the same results with the Pink Salt, Potassium Chloride, and Magnesium Chloride for myself, but there are different supplement forms that may impact your body differently. Also, I've come across information that adding a form of calcium with your electrolyte drink is also important to prevent the drop of calcium. However, I am not confident in pushing that without further research. This video was mainly to just provide an option for people to save money and still get the same dosage of electrolytes that LMNT recommends without the Natural Flavors and Sugars.

Well then I guess I should say you're welcome for giving a replacement option lol
@@motivationhw I didn't need one! It's simply sea salt, or low sodium sea salt and mag flakes. Been hiding it in beverages for years. Add a slice of lemon or lime if you like. I was just thrilled to see a video pop up in my feed from someone showing something different. I couldn't believe the ingredients in LMNT & it still boggles my mind people fall for it ❤️
@@azsunburns I am unclear what you are trying to say about the video I created. Please elaborate, if you would be so kind.
@@motivationhw not a comment regarding your actual video, just a comment on why you made the video. LMNT is outrageously overpriced simple ingredients ❣️
@@azsunburns I agree with you! That's the main reason why I looked into making my own. Going through college I was looking for something that I could have every day without going broke lol
