DAY 13:
STAGE TWO - SESSION SIX
Today's session we're learning about: Ikhfaa'. And this is the SIXTH session which is about the second skill of noon sakinah. Ikhfaa' is possibly the most common skill used in the Quran, and no wonder, since it is done when the noon is followed by 15 letters. In this lesson, you'll learn how to perform the ikhfaa' of noon sakinah properly.

Someone please help! ikhfa is vey difficult for me. I have listened to some qari and when they do ikhfa with ghunna sound of noon also comes along, but if we wont touch the tounge then how will will sound of noon come. Even in this video when he was doing ikhfa sometimes sound of noon was not there but sometimes it was there like when he said, "wa faakihatun kathirah" the sound of noon was clear. How could the sound of noon come if he did not let his tongue touch the top?????
@@kamranabbasi6757 Assalamoalaikum! Lets make it simple, I also could not understand the difference between the two. So, let's learn the rules. Ghunna: in ghunna, you keep it natural, your tongue will touch your upper part of the mouth and voice will come out of the nose. For example, try saying Inn Allah انّ الله - Next comes ikhfaa, for ikhfaa you need to make sure your tongue is stable and not touching anywh. For example, انْتَ
@@humna664Waalaikum Assalam sister, I understand that. My problem is when pronounced ikhfa we are not suppose to touch the tongue but watch video of famous Qurras like Yasser Dossari , Abdurrahim Sufi they pronounce ikhfa same as ghunnah. Also watch 3:38 in this video he did the same thing while saying "wa faakihatinn kathirah" he made ikhfa sound like ghunnah this is my question.
Also, I live in India and I asked this question to a local qari and he said both are pronounced in similar way...
@@kamranabbasi6757 Brother i'd suggest you listen to proper qaris who know proper arabic, and i would recommend arab qaris because many people in india and pakistan dont even pronounce the ض properly. Also, he does explain the difference in day 14 but i havent watched it yet.

@@kamranabbasi6757with practice
@@kamranabbasi6757 Sorry for a late response. But to answer your question, ikhfa is not necessarily avoiding contact between the tongue and the top of the mouth. Rather, it is shaping the mouth and the tongue in a manner that the next letter is just about to be pronounced, and then performing a nasal sound for two harakat, only then the next letter is pronounced. For the example your brought, during the tanween, he shaped his mouth and tongue to prepare for the letter ك. To do this, the back of the tongue must touch the roof of the mouth, then he performed a nasal sound of 2 harakat whilst keeping his mouth and tongue ready to pronounce the ك. Only after that did he pronounce the ك. The sound and tongue positioning of ikhfa will depend on the letter that follows noon sakinah, and will not always result in the tongue avoiding the top of the mouth. I hope that this explanation helped you, and I ask Allah that He makes this tajweed rule easy for you and all of us students. Aameen.

Salam aleykoum my all Time favorite teacher. Can you please make a video to show the differences between ikhfaa and idgham bi ghunnah. I am confused because both have ghunnah , both have 2 harakats and I can't see the differences. ( Or explain me by message) Jazakallah khayr. May Allah bless you.
In Idgham bi ghunnah there is clear fusion with ghunnah... And in ikhfa we have to hide... Hear the recitation again and again and InshaAllah u will get it

@@mymounaemdadullah2236 Mashaa Allah. To add to sister’s point, idgham basically means “merging”.
Idgham bi ghunnah: نْ or مْ is merged with only نّ or مّ.
Ikhfa’: نْ or مْ hides behind one of the remaining 15 letters in this video.
Idgham bil Gunnah is done when Noon Saakinah is followed by one of these four letters : ی م و ن.
Ikhfaa is done when Noon Saakinah is followed by one of these 15 letters : ت ث ج د ذ ز س ش ص ض ط ظ ف ق ك

question two answer is surah ibrahim verse no. 27
Assalamu alaikum, I have 3 questions:
1. When pronouncing Ikhfaa in front of د or ت do you put the tip of the tongue on the upper teeth or fully behind them on the alveolar ridge?
2. When pronouncing Ikhfaa for light letters which are shiddah letters (ت،د،ك،ج) as well as Iqlaab and Ikhfaa Meem Saakin (with ب) do you let some air escape the mouth or just through the nasal cavity?
3. What is the difference between Ghunnah and Ikhfaa, and how would I apply Ghunnah in Ikhfaa cases in heavy letters?
Jazakallah Khairan
Wa alikom asslam brother,
1- No, not fully, but nearly .. Here's video deomnstartion: ua-cam.com/video/_-a1wr0RIQU/v-deo.html
2- That depends on the letter: Here's the answer ua-cam.com/video/qnnBANhzaSk/v-deo.html
3- You use ghunnah (nasal sound) when you apply ikhfaa'.
Barak Allahu feekum
Am I the only person who thinks this is extremely hard?
Try to follow 1 video per day and read a lot of Quran isA it’ll become easy quickly
Nah your not the only one G
No but khayr inshaa'Allah
I would recommend to study and practice in person with a teacher as well. This is very good knowledge of Tajweed but to make sure you pick and follow them properly a life teacher is needed. He will correct you if you are wrong. Best of luck.
I studied for years all tajweed rules and today I come back to noon sakhina, because it is the hardest tajweed rule and I don’t get it really yet! Your comment gives me little hope because I am not the only one, I am really so frustrated!
Salaamu Alaykum. I have a question. When you do a Ikhfaa, for example: انسان, does your tounge touch bottom of the gums while saying it as this is the Makhraj of س? I've heard from some that your tounge shouldn't be touching any part of your inner mouth when doing Ikhfaa, is that false?
By the way, your videos are so so so helpful. I have improved my tajweed Darastically because of you, Barakallahu Feekum and looking forward for your reply.
thank so much

Before qaf and ka I hear the nun pronounced, but before the ta and sin I don't hear it. It is difficult for me to understand.I had always pronounced it in the past, but with the nose-sound. Barak Allah fik for more explication.

Is it obligatory to do a ghunnah of 2 harakat in this situation, or may I also pronounce the ن and the next letter separately? For example "wa in tawallau" instead of "wa inntawallau"
These ayas belong to Sura Ibrahim juz 14 24 & 27
Salām. Ustaz, in does ikhfa sounds like 'ng' or 'n' in Ghunnah? is that it?

What is the difference in sound and pronunciation of idgham bila ghouna and ikhfaa
When I try to make Ikhfa my back of the tongue closes the air flow so the sound comes from my nouse. How can I train to keep the back of my tongue down during this sound?
I figured out that the back of my tongue closes my throat so the sound only comes from my nose. How can I lower the back of my tongue in order to perform Ikhfa correct?
My question is I saw in another video that the nasal sound should be heavy on letters and light on the rest of the letter is this true
Am I the only one who can’t tell the difference between idgam(except laam and raae) and ikhfae, I try so hard to understand but I CAN’T tell their difference. Someone help pls
So in idhgam..you are basically merging the letters. For example with و after ن in binan wa anzalna you will read it binaaun wa anzalna... And in ikhfa you have to shape your mouth in position of the next letter while making the sound of noon.. I hope it helps..

Would it be the same if there is ikhfa for a م for example و لقد صبحهم بكرة? Or does this مً followed by ب fall under a different tajweed rule?
jazakallah
It is basically Ikhfah al Haqiqi? Right? I keep mixing non and mem sakina rules and their names
I just have a question I can't tell tell the difference between idgham and ikhfaa' because doesn't idgham require one not to mention the nuun sakiina watanween and merge it with the next heruf?
And ikhfaa'also require one to hide the nuun sakina watanween ...I also can't tell the difference in the pronunciation too please help
So when we do this can we touch the tip of our tongue on our teeth?
You mean with hiding it in the second letter is to make it smooth if the letter is and tough if the letter is right ?
It's basically doing gunnah and while doing so connecting it with the letter in front of it

Is there ikhfa in من صلصل. I am now confused with ikhfa and idgham. As hiding and merging becomes same. Please explain
If you watch the next video (day 14), you will understand it more in shaa Allah
I find it very difficult to say the ikhfaa and of ك or ق because I don’t know where to place the tongue to hold the ghuna
If you're a native English speaker, this sound /ŋ/ should be the closest to it, and it would have a very similar tongue placement. You pronounce this in words like 'singing'
6:23 why haven't you done the proper ikhfa here although after 'noon sakin' there is 'kaaf' 'منكم'
Assalamu Alaikum. What makes you think so ? It's done properly.
@@sisterkuya6364 because he just said we should close the tongue last part when there is 'qaaf' or 'kaaf' after 'noon sakin'
@@sisterkuya63642:16 you can check here also what he is saying

Why do you pronounce the ikfha at 4.30 differently to that in 6.20?
Asslamo alikom,
I agree, there is a slight difference, subhan Allah, I wasn't aware. The tongue should be touching the soft palate, just like in 4.30. In the second one 6.20 my tongue wasn't high enough.
Hope this clarifies the confusion in shaa Allah
@@Arabic101 Jazakallah khairan for the clarification. Just another question: if I were to pronounce ikfha for every light letter the same as that in 6.20, would this technically be wrong? Haramayn reciters differ on this. For example, Yasser Dossary pronounces every light ikfha letter with the tongue placement of 6.20.
