It varies from place to place, but a lot of the greenery is the result of very deliberate efforts at replanting from a century and change ago to WWII. In very old pics of my town, the hills are scraped. Hardly a tree to be seen. Now there are forests all around it, and a lot of trees in the city too. But very few places in Norway have the original forests intact. It was all cut down long ago to build navies. Anyway, modern Norwegians can't take much credit for that part of it. It's the result of old government actions that were sane, much to everyone's surprise. One thing we do now that I really love and always try to market is build bridges for wild animals that migrate, like moose. Traffic accidents involving moose used to be very common in Norway, and it always ended up with dead moose and probably dead human. They are big animals and very tall, so the business end is what tends to smash through your windshield. Now they have nice bridges to use when they want to cross the highways, and we have fewer accidents.
My favourite place in the world has just come up on the screen. Jotunheimen. I was there in June 1965 with pals from The "Artillery Alpine Association". We had Joined the "Den-Norse Tourist Association and were able to stop at hostels in the area, as "students". What a fantastic time we had there. What a shame the month went by so soon and we had to return to our bases in Germany and the U.K . I am so very pleased that I got the chance to go there.
Norway is considered to be one of the most picturesque countries on earth. Its beauty appears to be dreamlike; everywhere you turn, all you see is a sight of splendor.

Tent + sleeping bag is my advice to tourists on a budget. Most towns in Norway have designated camping sites for that, and you can save a lot of money.

Thank you Leena! Wonderful that "the spirit" lead you up to Norge! I really do understand, because my family left the fjords and moved to the USA in the 1880's......and I was the 3 generation born there. My girlfriend went to visit my family in Norfjord (a little out from Sandana) in 1969. Long story....but after returning to California countryside for 2 years.....my then wife Sandy and I actually immigrated back to old Norge! My family had a small, hand made bronze business, which I worked in for a year and then went down to Sunn Fjord just south of there and partnered with a Norske potter named Sven Tingness and made pots for a couple years! All great fun and adventure! In the end, it was too cold for me to live in 100% of the time, and Sandy wanted to return to her family. We parted amicably, she went home and I went south to Spain...and warmth!!! Thanks for this lovely...and quite sentimental for me, video!!! I cried! I'm wishing you two all the very best that Norge has to offer!!! Darrell

This list is so correct. I was lucky enough to work on a cruise ship that visited about 7 of these on multiple occasions. Bergen has always been in my top 10 places, with Geiranger and number one. That place literally took my breath away as we sailed down the fjord to the town at the bottom. ❤️ 🇳🇴
Honestly, as a Norwegian I think you could almost pick 10 random spots in the country for a list like this. Go almost anywhere in Norway if you like scenery and nature and there's something to see. Some parts of the southeast are a bit unspectacular, but other than that you can't really miss. Well, given weather precautions of course. Personally I would have taken Oslo off the list and put probably Jostedalsbreen on. Oslo is a generic city full of PC doofuses. Jostedalsbreen is unique in Norway. I know which one I'd like to see if I could only visit Norway once, and it isn't Oslo. My grand uncle used to be a glacier guide there to get tourists safely up and down.
