  • After years of practicing anxiety, fear, hatred, depression, and so many other feelings we can conjure up in seconds to carry around with us all day, we become very skilled at feeling things we don't like, and very inexperienced at feeling things we do like. If you want that to change, it's going to take practice, and a great place to start is with loving-kindness meditation.

    I just want to say thanks for sharing your journey with complete strangers on the internet. I've been watching your videos this last year and I can say that just listening to someone who believes in healing, to someone you can relate to it's great. Keep on Going! Keep on the good work, and thanks for sharing!

    Can definitely resonate to this. This is something I am working on. I was practicing being compassionate to myself and for 2 weeks I didn't had much obsessions or compulsions. But something caused me to loose it all other day and OCD came back. But I am certainly trying to be bit more gentle with myself which I haven't done in my past life. Look up Louise Hay for this as she is excellent healer.

    I cannot fathom how you came out of this ocd terror hell so vitalized and clear and focused. It's remarkable. I read Thich Nhath Hanh before I discovered these yt channels and I always became agressive reading them , because they seemed so extremely pacifistic and passive to me. The language was so soft that it gave me goosebumps and I had to put it away.
    It is only now that I read a book of his (No Mud No Lotus) and I can look past that and into the content that is very very helpful !

      +1Kilili That's awesome you're able to explore the content now. There can be a lot of religious stuff in his work but it also contains helpful explanations of all the tools we talk about on here for learning to accept thoughts, cut out compulsions, and do the the things you value.

      Yes ACT, ERP plus Buddhism and Thich Nath Hanh seems a very good combination :)

    Hi Mr freeman
    I had a thought like " maybe there is an invisible person who is sitting beside me " . I began to have anxiety about this thought ; and then i had another thought " maybe i have schizophrenia , it might be a symptom " and anxiety begin to increase . What is this ? it's OCD ?
    Thanks for your answer , i need help . And if anyone can relate , it will be amazing

    Hey Mark,
    I've watched a ton of your videos lately and find them to be very very knowledgeable and helpful so thank you. I have tried a lot of different tools to manage my ocd and it has been rough road to say the least. I was listening to your videos on acceptance I think known as ACT and wondering if you knew of any books or resources about it so I could learn more? Thanks for all you do =)

    • @everybodyhasabrain
      @everybodyhasabrain  8 років тому

      +Ashley Elyse Thanks, Ashley. Sorry to hear the road has been rough recently. For books on ACT, I'd check out "The Happiness Trap" by Russ Harris, or any books by Steven C. Hayes. I have a short ebook on Acceptance as well that I can send you. If you send an email through the contact form on my website, I can send that over to you.
      Keep on taking steps!

    Mark, can you tell me how you overcome dp and how long did it take? Thank you! I really appreciatie your help!

    • @everybodyhasabrain
      @everybodyhasabrain  8 років тому +1

      +burgieFR It's just a symptom of OCD. I wouldn't approach it as something separate. In my experience, for myself and working with others, depersonalization is a natural, logical consequence of particular compulsions. Like with any OCD symptom, I find that it helps to work on cutting out the compulsions while learning to do healthy things that align with your values.

      Haha thanks. It would be hilarious if I couldn't handle getting a dislike and then I just said: "That's it. I can't handle these emotions. I'm leaving the Internet and moving to a hut in the woods without electricity and I'm only talking to squirrels for the rest of my life."

      +Mark Freeman Mark after watching probably 20 of your videos and a few other OCD channels on here, it seems to really boil down to 1 simple idea. Idle hands are the devil's playthings. Boredom, Isolation, Loneliness are inversely correlated to OCD symptoms, at least for me. Getting around family/friends/animals seems to really make the difference.

  • @1Kilili
    @1Kilili 8 років тому

    Say you are with a person you like very much. And you don't yet know it that person likes you. You are in the mode "I hope she likes me, How can I make sure she likes" me. How do you get from there to meeting that person with " I like you" or even " I love you" if you want to date her.
    I think that's the number 1 reason people with anxiety have such trouble in this area. You would have to be able to feel abundant and loving toward that person in order for her to give you the same thing. So really the question is how do you give a person that elusive thing of "love" when at the same time you experience anxiety she might not give you that same thing.

    • @everybodyhasabrain
      @everybodyhasabrain  8 років тому +1

      Do you want to give something or get something?

    • @1Kilili
      @1Kilili 8 років тому

      Well it's through giving that you receive. I know that by now. Still, there is an automatic reaction of fear and wanting that is out of my control. So the question is how to deal with that being there and at the same time giving.

    • @everybodyhasabrain
      @everybodyhasabrain  8 років тому +4

      +1Kilili This is not different than any other situation with OCD. Somebody could ask: "How do you go to bed at night without checking the door lock when there's that uncontrollable fear and feeling that you're unsafe?" The idea that you need to deal with something before doing the healthy thing is the problem, not the solution. Whatever feeling is there, can be there, as you give to the person you care about.

    • @1Kilili
      @1Kilili 8 років тому

      I hope that works though :D But I'll try. Thank you :)

    Feeling that someone is wrong or they did wrong to me unnecessarily is okay to feel in that moment but creating those feelings because you're thinking is nothing but a rumination compulsion right? How to use compassion and forgiveness towards self and others in this type of scenario?

    • @everybodyhasabrain
      @everybodyhasabrain  10 місяців тому

      Sorry, I don't understand what the scenario is, but I'm also not a vending machine. I focus on building skills and exploring what we want to grow in life. If you're just looking for random advice on super specific scenarios that are unique to you, then just asking a chatbot could be better.

    • @jishajain7341
      @jishajain7341 10 місяців тому

      @@everybodyhasabrain no no nothing specific. The scenario where one feels that "they've been wronged"( the same thing you mentioned in this video) is also a rumination compulsion right? , how to use kindness ? ( or i think kindness can also be a practice of certain actions , but how?)
