Some credit cards I pay in full, I carry over debt under 3% utilization. But I am working on paying everything off so i don't have to be paying the interest anymore.
I usually keep my balance low all the time like I’ll only have maybe $600 max balance on a $6200 limit so I fear getting the Amex card without a limit if I consistently have $600 balance it’ll think that will be my max then I’d have to spend less than $600 each month to have good utilization rate
Got platinum yesterday after getting sapphire preferred, and Hilton surpass just two weeks ago. Plus I’m only 20 for anyone who feels like there not old enough.
Hello. I believe it depends. I have couple of AmEx cards and I agree with Sebby when it comes to it does not makes sense to have a Charge card and pay it overtime. At least for me I don't see the point. The only one I would do it is on my Business Plat just because I can play with the budget at hand. I only use the Pay It Later feature in the case of an emergency and never let the charge go past 2 months. I always pay it before the 45 day mark.
What about on time payments does having a charge card help with your credit score because you are paying the full balance on time. Well it help make your score increase each month?
Hey I have question I have an Amex gold card. I love the fact that I’ve improved snd polished my credit enough to get the card. It is a premium luxury travel card and I like that feeling when I go to pay for something. My question is, is there a premium luxury card out there, for the everyday user, to maximize my everyday purchases? I know this is kind of child but I like that metal feeling of my AMEX. Can’t tell you how many ppl have said wow I like ur card(Amex Gold)!
Do you feel having a loan of $6,000. (Never late, or missed) And a score of 690 and credit history over 6 years with no lates or missed payments could get the gold card?
Ur informative videos have helped me tremendously on my credit journey and for that I thank u. My question is, do charge cards affect chase’s 5/24 rule or no because they are not credit cards? Thanks in advance.
Hey guys! I’m not sure if this question has been answered but with anyone who has a Amex gold card or Amex card in general, does it help to improve your credit score? I am someone who’s using an Amex card as a 2nd card and has a good credit history but want to increase my credit score
Sebby, how do I move from the AMEX Platinum card to the AMEX Schwab card? Can I downgrade the Vanilla Platinum card to the AMEX Green? Is that a better choice than simply canceling?
You would have to apply separately. Either cancel or downgrade the vanilla Platinum. I would only downgrade if you've never received the Green bonus (once you downgrade, you can't get that bonus since you "have or have had it in the past"). TLDR: Cancel if you haven't had Green/Gold in past Downgrade if you have (maybe 2 Gold cards?)
Hey nice Video I started with the Amex Gold Like to get the Annual Blue Perferr as a second card then Move onto the platinum card My Annual fee should be around $1K give or take . That be the start of my Amex Trifecta
Amex platinum charged their membership fee on my statement date and reported it today. Now I have $700 balance. Will this impact my score??? I'm super nervous!
I was declined for the blue cash back card on March 5 applied for platinum on the 16th and was approved. They tend to at wait at least 30 days but depends on your credit history i believe.
Why are charge cards so rare nowadays? I think with young people so afraid to take on credit card debt these days, because they saw their parents generation drown in CC debt, a charge card marketed to young people could be a big hit (I know Amex already tried but I think it’s worth trying again).
KP V I have a gold amex card and im 19, most of my friends just dont care about credit at all, i try to make them get a new cc so i can get referral bonuses but they just seem to be ok with their debit card
KP V same I’m 18 and just applied yesterday for the Amex Gold card with a credit score of 746 and was accepted really fast, probably due to the fact I was an authorized user on my sisters previous Amex card and always paid that card in full
I was approved for the American Express Gold card in December. I used it the next month & the $250.00 membership fee was on my statement due the following month, so yes. LOVE the card!!!
Seb, does Amex review your business experience score at all or it’s just PG score and that’s it? I got a prequalify platinum but I have an old charge off that falls off in December. 720 score but I don’t want to get denied because of that charge off. You think it still matters or I just wait till end of year
Robert G I did the product change from business green to business gold right on the second day I was approved for the green card( not even received the green card ), so it really doesn’t matter how long you can do the product change
Hey Sebby, I've a question. I'm from Mexico, there I have the Amex platinum, but I've just moved to the US because I got a really good job offer. So I'm planning to do a Global Transfer with Amex as I don't have credit history in the US. Would you recommend me to apply for the platinum card or a regular credit card to better build my credit history here? The good part of the global transfer is that they consider my Foreign credit score which is really good.
I’m in the same boat, I like credit cards and the variations but I am biased towards Amex. I enjoy them and get a lot of value from using their cards. Question : I’m also a fan of Amex labeled gifts, where is a good place to find Amex gifts and specialty items ?
I'm ready to apply for a charge card by American express. I am nervous because of a charge off on my credit report and I'm also closing on a mortgage. When would be the best time to apply?
Hi Sebby, question, so I just got the amex platinum and my closing date was Nov 22nd and says due date Dec 18th, so can I pay until Dec 18th to avoid interest or should I've paid in full before the 22nd? Thanks in advance.
So what could one do to improve credit score short term if I only have charge card? Does the strat mentioned in your short term vid (prepay balance down to $1 still works with charge card, even though there’s no max? Many thanks!
Nope. I guess you're technically at 0% utilization. As long as your payments get reported, I'm guessing it should be fine. I'd probably add more cards in the long-term anyways to build out a base.
Ask Sebby Yes, definitely looking to expand my base. Learned a lot about credit management from watching your vids!! I will potentially have refinance activity in the next 12 months, so I’m hesitant to apply for new cards, even though the new Hyatt one looks tempting. I’ll try your consultation when I’m ready :)
I swear people get the green card because it's appearance is basically a slice of Capitalism Americana, that design has so much history. The 25,000 MR sign up bonus is just OK considering the long term benefits. But man does it look cool, opened mine for the bonus with AMEX and am hanging on to it simply because I think it looks cool in my wallet. A good sidekick to my other revolvers.

Hey I have the gold card my question is do they report to the credit bureau‘s on the statement date like a credit card or can you pay before your due date and not hurt your credit score
I have a question about building credit with my Amex card. I pay whatever my balance is at the the time every few days. Is that good, bad or pointless? I want to maximize building my credit but at same time I do not want to carry any balances longer than needed. I use my Amex for everything instead of my debit card to maximize points which is why I like to pay off quickly. I do not want to treat it like a charge or credit card. Thanks in advance for any insight!
My question is, under what circumstances would it be better for someone starting out /for anyone really to prioritize getting amex cards before the chase trifecta / 5/24 cards?
Funny how I came across this video posted today! I actually called Amex about the Platinum. The rep didn’t seem to know any answers to the questions with credit card vs charge card. Likely shutdown / blacklist as well long-term. Depending on the amount, I've heard of them sending someone to your house to see what's going on, whether you're still alive.
Might be a stupid question but if i set auto pay to full amount for a charge card ( the lowest is 15 days after statement close) do i still have to pay again to make the balance 0 until the statement closes again?
You should be fine? I would STRONGLY recommend double checking with charge cards though. The last thing you want is to get a shutdown/blacklist. I do a lot of credit card stuff (payment, tracking, etc.) while watching UA-cam/shows :)
Hey man! I have been watching you and the credit shifu for some time and I am happy to say I just hit the 800 score today! XD

So, in short, charge cards do not affect your credit score or utilization. I've wondered this for a long time.
+ total accounts (long-term good)
- AAoA (bad short-term; long-term good)
+ inquiries (bad short-term and then disappears)
What about on time payments does having a charge card help with your credit score because you are paying the full balance on time. Well it help make your score increase each month?
Does adding authorized users to Amex Platinum card help them build there credit? Or would you recommend adding them to a standard credit card?

Lets say I have 4 cards. My highest in credit limit and the longest in credit history was canceled. 30 years of credit history and 10000 dollars credit limit. How big of a loss is that on the fico score?
