The 3 Passes Trek from Jiri: A Quick Overview

- We started trekking the "Three Passes Treck" from Jiri (10-12 hours bus ride from Kathmandu) on the 5th of May 2018 and flew out of Lukla on the 29th of May just before the Monsoon. Highly recommend doing the loop counter clockwise for best acclimatization and overall appreciation of the sites: Kongma La / Cho La (bring microspikes) / Renjo La. Side trips included Khumjung, Ama Dablam Base Camp, Island Peak Base Camp, Chhukung Ri, EBC, Kala Patthar, Gokyo Ri, Arya & the Bhote Kosi Valley towards Tibet.

Awesome video! Where did you guys get your permits to do the Three Passes? I'm hoping on doing the same route from Jiri in February, but it's hard to find information online.
Thanks Michael! We got them in Kathmandu. Guarishankar, Sagamarta passes a easy to arrange. Check out phenomenal globe website/blog. Good info there. Hope to have a longer video and blog post for this adventure on triggerhappytravel.com before fed 😅

Fantastic video! Seems like you had nice weather? I'm heading there in May (starting on 9th May from Lukla), but worried about the cloud cover. Did you have some day of complete sunshine or days where it was super cloudy all day? many thanks.
Hi Emily, thanks for the comment! We did it in May 2018 and we were lucky with the weather. From jiri we had good weather and then we had a couple of days of cloud when we arrived in namche. For one hour or two in the morning it was sunny and then cloud from 11 am. Then we set off to tengboche and it was pretty cloudy all day. But the rest of the time all the way over the 3 passes was mostly great weather! Hope it helps, but for sure you need a few days to spare in case the weather is too bad, especially for crossing the passes.
