This small SUV ticks a lot of boxes - but is it too expensive? 2023 Peugeot 2008 GT review

- The Peugeot 2008 isn't the most affordable small SUV on the market, but can it justify its premium price position?
Contributing journalist, Helen Frost, spent some time in the GT grade (as well as the top-spec GT Sport) recently, and she found that there are plenty of things that set the 2008 SUV apart from its rivals, such as the Skoda Kamiq, Audi Q2 and VW T-Roc.
It has exceptional design inside and out, and certainly looks like it should cost as much as it does (GT spec is $43,497 plus on-road costs and extras), but there are some items missing from the standard equipment list that left Helen pondering about this car. Watch for more detail, but they include safety gear that should be standard in 2022 and beyond.
But with a pretty practical cabin, a decent boot and delightful driving manners, some buyers will be able to overlook a couple of shortcomings. But should they? Watch to find out Helen's thoughts!

Voted Best European SUV in 2020. Best selling small SUV in 11 European countries..
Got more than 14 awards in 9 European countries
You don't achieve that being a crap vehicle , and about the price : all car makers have rised their prices. Inflation isn't about food or energy only.
New Audis will be 10.000-20.000 euro more expensive than before.
So, before you say that Peugeot is too costly for it what offers : it delivers a lot, same level of premium than VW, while being even more stylish and as reliable , despite what so many idiots want to believe. And it costs less money.
About reliability : anyone can check out car crash tests. Peugeots actually are super reliable.
I have owned a 3008 GT, actually it's the best car I have ever owned. I am 51, been a BMW guy all my life. I have gone French and I am more than satisfied.
In Europe, Peugeot have levelled up big time since 2012. It is now considered a mid premium brand, and they are moving to premium real fast. Check out the new 408, it's a masterpiece of design.
People shouldn't base their opinions on reputations but on facts. As I said, check out all awards Peugeot models got since 2012, in so many countries.
Couldn't agree with you more Ray!! I have driven Japanese cars all my life but bought the new Peugeot 2008 in 2020. Have been a proud owner since then. Test drove every possible brand available in Mauritius but the tech and the comfort which you get in this mini SUV was unmatched that time. Though they are a bit expensive but they have premium finish and at least here in Mauritius servicing them is also cheaper than most of the Japanese and German cars.
I love how casually she just drops her average being 11.0L/100km when the estimated is 6.5L. Like it's no big deal 🤷🏼♂️
Video is 'spot on'. Enough content, time, shots and presenter great 👍
Lovely review . I pick up my 2008 gt Thursday been waiting since May.
How did you manage to get 11l per 100km out of such a small engine , astonishing.?
Flogging the eff out of it
@@robertceroli3512 Hours of constant redline, she drove it like she stole it.
@@tonybennett638 The car or driver ? 🤔
I live in the uk and actually ordered Peugeot 2008 GT with manual gearbox but then was told by the dealer 2 days later that they no longer make it with manual gearbox so i cancelled my order , very disappointed , cant understand why they have stopped making them .
I like the presenter, she’s very clear and well spoken
Hard enough to sell 2nd hand tiguan, imagine trying to sell this French car later ... in Australia. Buying a new car is also about resale value, and all of the expenses in between.
Thanks for the review. This seemed quite expensive when launched but now that other competitors have had big price hikes, it's now in the same range as the Kamiq Monte Carlo. I'd still take the Kamiq though.
Beautiful review of a beautiful car by a beautiful lady. I am totally lost and going to buy it although i do not really need anymore cars. 😍
I’ve been looking at the 3008 and 2008’s for some time now as I was in the market for two new SUV’s. They are just too overpriced for what you get, simple. This manufacturer will never make a dent into the Aussie car market until the sort that out to say the least.
I completely agree with you! The 2008 base price is $48k for a small SUV? You can get an upgraded Sportage SX+ medium SUV for that price. If Peugeot is trying to compare itself with Volvo or Audi, they're dreaming!
This or the Suzuki? Seems like night and day even for the price.
Don't think I ever seen these on the road so I assume they are selling bugger all each month if there not popular now imagine trying to off load these 5y later what a resale disaster it would be
With Peugeots - in Australia you always buy the cars 1year old (demo type kms) I've done this on my last two Peugeots - saved a heap.
Nice
Thank you for review. I believe the problem is their higher price and lower reliability in comparison to Japanese brands. The other problem is, Japanese cars are usually full of safety equipments but French cars such as Renault Koleos lack in that area.
I am from a country that French Manufactures have a significant share in the car market, and even here, they are not recognized as a reliable car brands. Still a 2008 Mazda3 runs great after 300,000km, but a Peugeot 207 falls apart after 100,000km
But I can’t deny that Peugeot new designs are magnificent. I personally fell in love with the new 308.
Always the same BS spread about French cars and reliability. I call BS on your comment, mate. I have owned a Peugeot 3008 since 2016, 150.000 km+, NOT A SINGLE TECHNICAL ISSUE. You just want to trash talk French cars just for the sake of it , you muppet.
@@garnray8568 Yeah, you’re right 😂😂
I talk BS, even the European surveys talks BS. I don’t know about them, but I am one of the biggest share holders of Toyota and my holy mission is to BS the French car manufacturers, specifically at this critical era period which Toyota is on the way of bankruptcy 😂😂😂 and I may lose my entire 💰
@@arad907 That's exactly what I say : you don't know what you are talking about.
When you say that French car manufacturers lack in safety department area, and that in your country (I don't where you live) , French cars have a good reputation : not recognised as reliable brands.
Well, I live in Switzerland. The richest and safest country in the western world. We only buy quality stuff. And nothing else than quality, it's our mentality.
Come here and you'll see French cars everywhere. French car makers have dramatically levelled up those last 10 years.
If you guys, in your country, want to base their jugements on French cars from the 90's, okay, do that. But that's one dumb attitude. I think that everybody in Europe know that French car makers on a roll.
In many ways, they now deliver as much as German cars, same level of quality (for an inferior price = better value for money)... It wasn't the case, before, I agree with that, but now they do.
With time people change, things change, companies change. It's time to accept that French car makers have changed as well, and for the best. Stop with that reputation BS.
@@garnray8568 I really hope they did change. I love their designs, comfortable ride and even their quirkiness. I guess feature will show they are as reliable as Japanese or not.
11L? 😅 i made 6L when I rented one for a week in Portugal.
I have no idea how she managed that consumption. Must have had the petrol tank emptied at night?????
11.0L/100km OMG
She is also a racing driver .
Helen heavy foot - 11L/100km 😮
11.L - 100km 😂😂😂😂😂😂
This car is a disappointment. A 1.2L getting 11l/100? Seems far too underpowered, struggling to pull it's own weight.
Get a Hyundai. Thanks for the honestly.
I have no idea how she got 11L/100km - realistic consumption is around 7-9L/100km
The manual transmission is unwatchable 🤦♂️
Brand new combustion car purchase in 2022...
